What don,t people understand about the signs that are posted at most Grade Crossings that read " DO NOT STOP ON TRACKS " ?? I don,t care what the reason is, if your vehical can,t clear the Crossing to start with don,t take the chance. What,s wrong with these people? Thats a BIG 10-4
@robertgift Thats true but also railroad gates can still save lives. who knows? some crossings can be quiet zones. if its a quiet zone and theres no gates on those kinds of crossings, there is a 100% chance you will get pwned.
I hope you're being sarcastic. "Crappy CSX drivers?" It's not the train crew's fault when a vehicle gets stuck on the tracks. Beyond blowing the horn and putting the train into emergency braking, they're powerless to avoid a collision. Unfortunately, a lot of people don't realise that.
A lot of people also don't realise just how massive a train actually is. Really, the only thing guaranteed to derail or seriously damage a train in a collision is another train.
Two enormous machines that you couldn't imagine meeting until it happens. One of the locomotive's motorized wheel trucks weighs as much as that entire trailer truck; around 40 thousand pounds. The poor truck went for its last few hundred yards of travel. Sideways. Ouch! It hardly bent even a hand rail on the loco, I bet. The engineer and brakeman hardly felt the impact if at all.
uh, no. A wheelset on a locomotive does not weigh 40k. I've changed out many a wheelset and associated traction motor. They weigh nowhere near that much
@Trainman11185 I know. your not supposed to stop on the tracks. there have been plenty of accidents including dipbutts stopping on the track. there has been an accident in North Carolina including a car/train. a grandma and her grandchild stopped on the tracks and ripped the whole rear end off her car.
