Hey guys, I'm a Tea-Party conservative from hell, BUT, when I see the gasoline engine industry subvert and supress something like this, then I know that the "protect our buggy-whip industry crowd" is still alive and kicking! The industry does not want to change, because change costs money, and no matter how much better AND FASTER a diesel electric sports car would be, (and it would be VERY fast), those with billions invested in gasoline sports cars will do ANYTHING to stop new competition.
If diesel electric FREIGHT TRAINS are so wonderfull, and create so much horse power, and comprise ALL freight trains WORLD-WIDE!, then why aren't the most powerful sports cars in the world diesel-electric? D/E freight trains get 400 miles per ton of freight per gal, and that means AVAILABLE HORSE POWER FOR SPEED AND TORQUE, RIGHT? I smells a rat, and I thinks that NASCAR, (& gas engine companies) IS that rat! The word's fastest cars can be D/E,(if the gas-engine manufacturers allow it).
forget the looks. diesel electric seems like a good idea. why are they not mass producing these....with other bodies, pickups, etc.? Train commercials go on about how many tons can be moved with diesel electric...think of it wit h further developement, solar roof panels, etc.. Someone should sell driveline components to convert stuff like my old gas hog chevy pickups, etc.
The underlying technology sounds great, but you really need to sort out the body styling and 3 spoke wheels. It looks like a geek-mobile. Less weird is good.
The body is modeled after the Thunder Ranch Riot but has been modified to fit the custom chassis. Also, all the front ducting is original. The engine is a 1.2L VW TDI from a Lupo that was bought used off the streets of Munich. The chassis houses 28 batteries in the vehicle's belly. The motor is a 150kW (200HP) AC induction type. It has a very low center of gravity and corners as if on rails. It can easily carry enough fuel to cross the US without refueling.
And it's got 20 miles all-electric range too. I hate hybrids though. Too much complexity. Either make it a pure electric car with 200+ miles range and less weight(better acceleration) than the hybrid, or stick to a very powerful diesel engine(at least a V8) and optimize aerodynamics to maximize economy and performance.
I'd love that engine in an ultra-aerodynamic chassis with say, .15 drag coefficient and 20 square foot frontal area, with 2,500 lbs weight. Give it the stickiest street legal tires available. Can you say 60+ mpg highway running on hempseed oil and 0-60 mph in 3 seconds?
The 2007 Lexus GS 450h has a 3.5 liter V6 engine combined with a permanent magnet motor. Lexus says the GS 450h is rated at 339 combined horsepower with the gas engine and electric motor. Lexus claims the 0-60 acceleration is 5.2 seconds. For perspective, the 2006 GS 430 has a 4.3 liter V8 that has 300 horsepower.
It uses a 200 horsepower AC Propulsion motor and inverter combo and a 100 horsepower 1.2L TDi diesel engine. 0-60 mph is under 4 seconds. Sounds good enough to me. There's an article on EV World about this car titled "Burn's Biodiesel Sexpot" for more info. Google that phrase.
He's right. Look up Audi R10D and learn a little something. Why do you think every semi in the US is a diesel? They last and they go farther on less. Add a turbo or supercharger, let it breath and tweak fuel management..(like bully dog for trucks) and pow you've got a monster on a budget. This one happens to look like a clown car though. Really bad design.
Ugh not bullydog. Those kinds of diesel tuners are notorious for overfueling (aka smoking like something's gonna fall off it any second) Gale banks is one of the few, and the first no smoke diesel tuner. He's the guy you want for power, and MPG. Bullydog will just make your truck smoke and billow out unburnt fuel.

its most likely home designed and built, with a frame and fiberglass shell, without some skills you get a shitty look.
I would just get a prefab fiberglass or carbon shell to throw over a homebrew chassis like a lambo or elise or somethin.

So do the Taurus Headlights, though they are popular with the custom body kits, like the Willys look alike for the 1st gen S10.

Actually it's not that bad. I like the front. Wheels have to go. A nice mesh or multispoke design would do. And yes the back is a disaster.

Fully Electric cars at Lionev website. Cost about $30-40K. Max tested range 456 miles per charge.

At least diesel-hybrids are better than gasoline-hybrids. The next step, biodiesel-hybrid. Ahh, why can't we get hydrogen motors already.
Astralism 4 years ago
Get a diesel engine, those got more torque than gasoline engines. Like the Audi V12 TDI. Ahh, orgasmic to even think about it.

It looks like a modded Mazda MX3 front end with an early Dodge Viper rear. Overall, not attractive.
