Alec Guinness/Godbole and Peggy Ashcroft/Mrs Moore are memorable in very different roles.
Guinness pulls off what what have become easily a Caricature. While Peggy Ashcroft almost convinces us tha Mrs Moore really exists.
James Fox does also a good and understated job in a melancolinc role.

I love Godbole's philosophy, and his eastern inscrutability. Along with Mrs Moore, he is one of the best characters in the book.

There seem to be endless arguments on what constitutes "fatalism". As it's been explained to me it does NOT necessarily mean to be an excuse to do nothing.
