I use LyX a lot. I wrote my minor and major thesis + several research papers in LyX. LyX is really good at this.
But I am not sure, if I would use LyX for my math-homework at school. I would only use it for docs that are going to be published (internally/externally), i.e., for docs that have to look really good.
I guess I would be much faster writing all these equations using pen&paper.
Glad to see Lyx is WYSIWYG. Obviously similar to Equation Editor or Mathtype. There is no way in hell that anyone can memorize and make use of the thousands upon thousands of backslash commands in math mode and the vastly complicated way of composing the intricate math formulae.
Too slow in compare to LaTeX script typing.

Can you please tell me, what is the best way to construct the tree diagrams in lyx?

And, if you type [tex]...[/tex] will it recognise it the same way as Ctrl+M?

@chuong113 You have to type f^{\prime \prime} :)

@MrPeeepe Or just two single quotation marks '. It outputs the exact same thing.

In the new versions of Lyx, you can use \"latexcommand" directly within math mode.
\centerdot and \cdot gives the same results.
