My answer to those that hate. Jesus said " I come not change the law but to give you a new commandment, to love one another as I have loved you", something like that. People work so hard to be good at something and music makes us passive for at least a moment. As I have said before I am thankful for my computer because the world of music is at my fingertips and thanks to those that put it on, we are grateful. King David sang Psalms:::::"The Lord is my shepard.................etc
It's interesting that Deanna was dropped from MGM in favor of Judy Garland (who for full disclosure I believe is a much greater talent), but then Deanna went on to a string of really, really enjoyable movies and do a great job in all of them. I wish Judy had the opportunity of the really fun movies that Deanna had instead of Mickey Rooney bouncing around like a wind-up doll. Anyway, this was a beautiful version of the song. Thanks so much for posting.
@stevers62 I believe that Judy was like a bottle of wine..the older she got the better she became I still have a recording of her performance at Carnegie Hall WOW! At a youger age, however, Deanna certainly had the superior voice and an unrivaled screen legacy as time went on. They were both fantastic!
STUNNING, STUNNING!!!!! What a pity there are not singers of this callibre singing today. Sadly we have to put up with less than mediocre forgettable singing nowadays!!! Brava Deanna!
God Bless America should have been our National Anthem. I think it tells people more about the America we love and why we will protect it. Too bad we allow prejudice to get in the way of our becoming an even greater nation. Unfortunately Irving Berlin was Jewish so we couldn't allow a Jew to write a patriotic song and have it destined to be our National Anthem.
We were happy to give Deanna 5 stars; however we cannot pass this site without pointing out that the most likely reason for giving something excellent like this one star, would be either arthritis causing the hands to shake, or else simply not understanding that rating 5 stars means you must click on the righthand side rather than the left.
I love America, I love God and I love Deanna. Thanks for posting this beautiful rendition of God Bless America and I still love Kate Smith's version; they're both awesome
unfortunately, there are many disturbed individuals. this negative posting is actually one of the milder ones! the Flyer's team of the 1970s played a very physical and many thought an overly aggressive style of hockey. they were not known as the Broad Street Bullies for no reason.
you are doing all of us who greatly appreciate fine music a great service.
Deanna Durbin had one of the most wonderful voices. i have several of her movies on DVD. only explanation i can give for the poor rating of God Bless America by someone is that is a Philadelphia Flyers fan who remembers Kate Smith singing at their home games during he 1970s. Their home record when she performed was almost perfect. they did a tribute to her a number of years ago, interspersing a video of her along with the daughter of the Flyers announcer singing it.
Loving Kate Smith's version (which I certainly do) should not make any sane person hate Deanna Durbin's. That said, the good people of Philadelphia once booed Santa Claus and pelted him with snowballs, so anything's possible. Still, I think we have a disturbed individual who hates the U.S. or religion.
Thanks for the nice comment, Beeswaxer. I just posted it this morning, and someone came over and dropped a one star rating on it. That's never happened to one of my Durbin recordings before. I'm guessing this sad individual either hates Deanna, America, or God. Either way, that person has a lot of issues that one starring things he hates will not solve.

For her genre, there was never singer better than the incredible Deanna Durbin. She was truly one for the ages.

Kate's is the "original" I guess the original is always the best. Anyway, I agree with what you say.
