Id love to know what that second gun weights in at, Heavy profile barrel, two inch long comp, two flashlights and mounts, a laser dez, grip, mbus, redi mag, another fully loaded mag, aim point and a full weight young mfg. NM m16 bolt. Umm 13-14lbs. a.k.a show gun.
@Lconroy8 S- Slap the magazine, P - Pull the charging handle, O- Observe the Chamber, R- Release the charging handle, T- Tap the forward assist, S- Squeeze the Trigger
@GAZ3539 Understress when your getting shot at, it's very hard to know which mag is empty on that dual clamp and which one is not. Simplicity is very important for firefights.
The only "bad" about the magpul training series is that they use only AR-15like weapons.
Someone who uses another kind will not be able to fully take advantage of the series.
For instance...The Greek Army uses G3A3 as the standard issued rifle. There is no chance
to perform the double feed or SPORTS with the G3A3 cause the charging handle is on the front left side so the "procedure" can not be executed. The good think is that the videos will make you think and improvise.
@flyer203 Or even the AK, seeing as how many PMC, civilians, and military people are purchasing/using them. There becoming more and more abundant as the ar15 is.
SPORTS Slap, Pull, Observe, Tap, Release, SHOOT! Interesting the differences between the shooters methods demonstrated, "Work space" and the like. Note that many of these techniques can be easily demonstrated in sterile match shooting type clothing. Please add 45 pounds of kit. Not to mention bad knees, helmet and old age...
for sports you deffo only did SPRS.... what happened to observing and tapping? granted 95% of the time you wont need to tap observiing is pretty important and you didnt bother
@bigplayer2382 Clearing a jam has to be treated with a sense of urgency and understanding what is wasted movements when milliseconds count on the battlefield. If you observed that a round extracted out of the chamber without looking directly at the bolt area, that's faster and less movement. Tapping the forward assist is very rare. Magpul renamed it to "Tap, Rack, Bang.." SPORTS is literally obsolete to advanced trainers like them that cover the other 3 ways to clear different malfunctions.
@IMFDB guy i think i know a little bit more about the "battlefield" then you do. So dont try and explain dumb shit to me. If they wanna re-name it re-name it by all means, just dont say your doing SPORTS then only do half of it. also if your in that big of a rush its prob because your not behind cover.. and that right there is your mistake. In my eyes these guys are training for events that never will happen civilian side, and SHOULD NEVER happen military side. ie. standing up shooting..
@bigplayer2382 Training to shoot without cover is worst case scenario and they train for those scenario's because you don't get to pick which place you get shot at. Taking cover is a common sense factor that does need to be taught on a range. Accuracy maybe final to most people but speed is gonna come first in order to get accuracy. To be honest I think these guys have better fundamentals than Army/Marine Basic Combat Training.
@IMFDB I think these guys would die quick deployed and so would you. if your ever in any scenario like that why the fuck would you still be standing trying to reload? why not drop to a knee/prone? lower your silhouette? dont get yourself killed. you say find cover is such "common sense" why do they always train standing.. i guess taking a knee/prone isnt common sense when you can do it anywhere?
@IMFDB if im ever having a "stand off" like these guys train for and im up close and my weapon jams. I'm not going to try and stand their and fix it and wait, im going to charge at them and take them to the ground to get a fair fight because they will have shot you by the time you fix your jam if you stand there. apply pressure to them.. and if your having a stand off at a distance.. why stay standing tryign to fix it? what they they teach is hollywood, not real combat sorry
@bigplayer2382 WOW, your really smart. Trying to zoom in on a guy sprinting with the gun at 30% speed. These guys teach the fundamentals of dynamic weapons manipulation and shooting on the move later in the video. You the shooter have to decide which combination of these fundamentals to use when the situation dictates. If you were watching disc 1 of this video you would understand why this video was presented in the first place.
@IMFDB wtf u talkin about twat? i said charge him i dont mean run at him shooting you dumb fuck. i mean you try and take your shot, you see that it jams so you charge him to apply the pressure on him and your not standing their dumbfounded trying to unjam your rifle. PLEASE entertain me with your credentials of being trained. and dear god do not say "well i once watched a DVD on it"
@bigplayer2382 Your not showing very elaborate scenarios. What you see in the video are not absolute way of doing things. There just things to practice until you build muscle memory, if you want to incorporate movement while clearing jams or take cover to clear them than you can. This is just showing the fine details because it's easier to watch out in the open than taking cover blocking the camera's line of sight. Army BCT programs don't get very in depth into gun manipulation; these people do.
@IMFDB im glad your starting to realize that your wrong so your shifting your view... in the beginning you were saying how your just training for worst case scenarios, now your saying its just gun manipulation. and ones who go threw army BASIC are not the ones doing the shooting now are they. Its the INFANTRYMEN who are the trained professionals. No need to teach everyone fine details on combat when they will sit behind a desk and never shoot their rifle....
@IMFDB what im pointing out is by doing this technique over and over again to get that muscle memory, its NOT the muscle memory you want, when shit kicks off and you are firing downrange you dont want your muscle memory to be telling you to reload/fix a jam standing up...
@bigplayer2382 You obviously don't want to stand up in a gun fight, these people never intended to show it like that. Yes you do want muscle memory for your gun manipulation skills. Understress when your body get overwhelmed and you hands start going into gross motor skills, sunconscious weapons movement is your number 1 asset. If people could get a consistent pencil grip while getting shot at because theyve done it a million times.Than they should be getting repetitions with their speed reloads
@bigplayer2382 I got a off topic question. Coincidentally I wanna join Army Infantry next year and was wondering is it true that not all men get issued M9 pistols for squad?
@IMFDB Army Infantry is the way to go. The pride that goes along with the Infantry is priceless. They are easily the most respected mos in the army. The only people who get issued M9's are medic's, 240B gunners (for close combat), and officers. Other then that everyone has an M4/M249. Trust me, an M9 will be the least of your worries. The M4 is everything you need and some for close combat.
@bigplayer2382 Yeah that makes sense. A pistol is only mandatory if your going into combat solo without a team. Your team backs you up whenever you need to speed reload your M4 when there's no lull in the gun fights. I personally hate how the M9 safety is mounted so high on the slide. I'd rather have a safety mounted on the grip or no safety at all like a Glock.
@IMFDB i agree, im not a fan of the M9. I'm a fan of the M&P myself, same DOA as the glock tho and same consistent trigger pull. As infantry you wont ever go into combat solo. Not unless your CAG. even then you will have backup somewhere. Unless your any type of SOF you should pretty much always have a 3:1 ratio to the enemy if your on the offense, and if not you will have some serious assets.
@bigwy2k yeah? and i bet your a dumb fuck marine as well. And marines wonder why there casualty rate is so high compared to the infantry. You all are retarded and under trained
@bigplayer2382 Who ever you are calling us dumb fuc marines, lets get thise straight real guick. I didnot engage into this convo to talk to a idiot, you sound like you didnot understand the basic and ask the dumbest questions. I bet if you were in and you maynot have been just talking about what you heard you uncles or somebody talking about. But yes you ask some dumb ass ques trying to down this guy who are you how many bodies do you have confirmed. You complete idiot!!!!!
@bigwy2k completely obvious your not in the service lol. how many bodies have you confirmed? your a twat, what do you think i am a navy seal? we dont count bodies cuz gl knowing who shot who.
@bigplayer2382 i HAVE DONE 20 YEARS IN YOUR SERVICE YOU IDOIT. I HAVE BEEN IN MORE CONFLICTS THAN YOU AND TO OF YOUR SISSY FRIENDS TOGETHER. YOU CANT TELL ME NOTHING ABOUT BEEN IN MARINES YOU DUMB ASS...I JUST RETIRED AND NOW SERVING MY STATE.
@bigplayer2382 I believe Army takes more casualties than Marines , because there is more of them. Marine Infantry is very effective at destroying the enemy, which they have proved over and over again (Hue City, Fallujah,). The Marines are not Navy Seals and they have different purposes. Recon and Navy Seals have different purposes. Marines are an amphibious assault force. So there is no use comparing them. They all combine together to win wars.
@cutkevinthroat NO YOU STUPID PRICK. you just pissed me off. do you really think fallujah was all marines? 1st ID was in there. Go read the book "house to house" about an infantry squad leaders experiances in fallujah. It was a joint effort with marines and army. He received multiple awards for what he did in there and was put up for the medal of honor. And i was talking about the casualty RATE not the amount of casualties. look at the statistics.
The Urban Prone isn't the best roll-over prone position as there is a risk that the ejected casings may bounce back into the bolt and cause the carbine to jam, as mentioned by ex-Delta Force Master Sergeant Larry Vickers. The Reaction Side would be a safer option, although both are good dynamic responses of returning fire from a prone position.
@SpecJack15 Thinking about which position your guns gonna jam is not something that your gonna do understress. The chances of that happening are less than 1%; and the chances of you getting in that position is less than 1% of that previous 1%. You got a reasonable excuse but you have backups like pistols and using your training to clearing the jam. I wouldn't listen to Larry very much because last video I saw him in he definitely wasn't transitioning to his pistol consistently and urgently.
@IMFDB Ok, pistols. How are you gonna draw your pistol when you're lying on your strong side when your rifle jams? Its more of a last resort position. At least in Reaction Side you can draw your secondary. And speaking of Larry, he does emphasize on pistol draw very much, if you watch his shooting classes. "The rifle is intended to be shot in an upright position, as the iron sights are made to be used vertically."
@SpecJack15 You obviously got to roll on your back and simply draw your sidearm. I've seen a video of Larry transition to his sidearm with a jacket covering it and still grabbing it sloppy. He doesn't cover how to transition or practice all the hasty positions like these guys do. Understress you don't think about which side prone ur gonna get into, you simply get into that position and lay down fire.
@IMFDB Ok, but minor things make a difference. You shouldn't let haste take over your shooting fundamentals. Sure, its good to be dynamic. But the more you rush it the worse your precision is.
@SpecJack15 Your marksmanship skills get really degraded during high stress situations due to degraded hand-eye coordination, and hyper extended movement. If your cognitively thinking about fundamentals everytime you shoot your not ready for a real firefight because the stressful parts of your mind overwhelm you to think about fundamentals. That's why practicing with consistent repetitions is very important until your subconscious mind takes over like gripping a pencil without thinking about it.
@airsoftmecrazy The Oakley logo on his glasses are more horizontally in an oval than the five squared. The five squared must be an updated version of them. I spent like 2 hours looking for his models, couldn't find them anywhere.
What is the point in a tactical reload exactly? because wouldn't you want to use up the whole clip instead of risking the time to change a mag when you still have a couple shots left because I would think even those few seconds can make a difference.
I dont get the thing with the double feed: why doesnt he immediately remove the mag and then pull back the charging handle? wouldnt it be faster removing the mag fist then ejecting the bullet by pulling the charging handle and then loading the next mag? pls answer or tell me if the question's hard to understand.
@RastaEugen If you remove the mag (If the mag even comes out) the bolt will be forced by the buffer spring and will push the already jammed obstruction(s) deeper in to the chamber, effectively wedging it in there. Its ALOT easier to clear the stoppage without any unneccesary force applied against you as the operator. Try a self induced double feed and youll see what Im talking about. Hope that helps.
These men have killed more than Genghis Khan and Hitler combined and have more actual combat experience than the entire Spartan army from the movie 300. Im sure they know a thing or two about tactical reloads and assessments.
the second reload drills is kinda off...I'm a marine and i seem to find the L shape method more effective if my bolts locked to the rear i first place the new mag in the L shape the eject the mag......then still holding the mag out and near the rim of the mag weld move you wrist up 90 degrees toward you and place the new mag firmly in the mag weld.....after that take your hand off the new mag and while still holding the empty mag move your wrist toward you another 90 degrees and slap the blot HA
@token5011 If your bolts locked to the rear there's no point of doing a tac reload, the speed reload should be treated with a sense of dynamic urgency cause your out of ammo. A tac reload is only for when your get a lull in the gunfight, and your have time and opportunity to do it. Tac reloads don't seem to work so great on USGI mags either, mostly P-Mags.
@ShootinScooter well tell SocksOnLast cause hes the 1 that says your not gonna do a tactical reload in the middle of a firefight. i was bein sarcastic up until the camera angles lol
I hate critics...everybody has a differnt technique for everything, just because your unit or branch of the service showed you how to perform a tasks doesn't mean it works for everyone. I have served in the Army and Marine Infantry and they both have their own techniques for doing things. It's just like clearing a room, there is more than one way to skin that cat. I am currently a SWAT Operator and the way they do things are completely different than that of the military. CIVIL LIABILITY!
The section entitled S.P.O.R.T.S. he is preforming Tap, Rack, Bang which is what you do before you preform S.P.O.R.T.S. since most likely the previous casing didn't eject or the next round didn't load. Clearing the double feed is when he preformed S.P.O.R.T.S. It's an Akranym for Safe, Pull mag, Observe chamber(clear blockage), Replace mag, Tap bolt release, Sight and fire. In order to observe the in side of the chamber you have to pull the charging handle. Thats how we do it in the Marines.
@Jonboyi Er...sir. The acronym is Slap (the base of the mag), Pull (the charging handle to the rear), Observe, Release (the charging handle), Tap (the forward assist to ensure the bolt is home), and Shoot.
This comment has received too many negative votesshow
No offense to the video poster, nor anyone else who owns a firearm, but this type of tactic will get you killed in the middle of combat ESPECIALLY if you are reloading out in the open.
I can’t believe that people are being taught and are learning this principle. Count your load out. You should know exactly what equipment you are handling, and how manny of that you have with you, including magazine capacity.
@SocksOnLast This is just an example of many tactics one can employ. This is not the absolute way to do things, nor is it said to be in the video. Relax guy.
@SocksOnLast if u are reloading out in the open you are dead anyway no matter how to do it. and these are drills and an assortment of ways to do a reload. ur not gonna tac reload in the middle of a firefight.
@SocksOnLast your a dumbass. why would you reload in the open??? its just to get a good shot for the video. what kind of idiot would film someone when theyre behind cover? you wouldnt be able to see them well enough lol you FAIL big time
@SocksOnLast They are out in the open for demonstrating purpose.... not everyone is taught these tactics, they are usually set for special forces and some law enforcement.
@SocksOnLast So what do you want us to do? If I am caught in the open with a empty mag in my rifle or a malfunction and no sidearm, should I just hold my hands up and surrender? And obviously these guys aren't aware of their loadout and how many mags they have at their disposal... -___-
@SocksOnLast I did 4 tours in the middle east. The LAST thing I was doing was counting my rounds as I returned fire while RPGs were being sent my direction. It doesn't matter what equipment you run, you better know how to fix it if it goes down. SPORTS is the most efficient way of doing this with a modern m4 type rifle. Costa and Haley are some of the best instructors I have met, and they teach to shoot from cover when possible. They are showing manipulations here so they may be practiced.
@Kataquan He hasn't done anything he doesn't teach, he takes that look down because it saves time, instead of fumbling trying to get the magazine in, he can quickly and accurate insert it and get back to the fight.
OK, OK A Tactical Reload should be fast, which he clearly is However...TACTICAL means you drop your magazine to the ground and dont...I say again DONT loose your sight picture or pull the weapon from your shoulder. Also, The loaded Mag should be hitting the Mag Well IMMEDIATELY as he is hitting the Mag Release. TACTICAL = Reloading while not losing site picture and not worrying about your $30.00 magazine....Drop it to the ground, reload and keep shooting! Otherwise this guy is on his game!
@68jgil Wrong, tactical reloads by definition retain mags. Its why you do them, and you retain them because there are still rounds in the magazine, hence the tactical bit.
I'm not talking about the double feed, or stove pipe. I am asking why he completely takes his eyes off target and does this spin thing when ejecting the spent magazine. it comes out plenty fast when you let gravity do the work. for being a professional he is very slow. IMO.

@wjkerk i concur... its the competition shooters have there way for comps.. but most of what theyre teaching here isnt done in combat. us vets can disect this vid and rip it apart all day, hopefully no one is using this as a guide
I know he knows his stuff... But he does EVERYTHING different to all the other pro's. When reloading I was alway taught to to hold the rifle still putting in the direction of my target so as soon as that mags in I can start firing again rather than having the swing the gun back down like Costa does...
@Arostyle380 There's controversy behind that, that's usually called the "don't let the bad guy know your out of ammo technique." Doing it like Costa, gives you a view of the battlefield for more possible threats, while your reloading. If you focus to much on that magwell without multitasking, and paying attention at more possible threats you decrease your survivalbility rate.
what is with that gay side spin reload bs. keep the god damn rifle in your shoulder with your eyes down range. don't be a bit@# and learn how to manipulate your weapon.
@nakazatoGTR my attempt at humor failed, well then I will just resort to calling you a faggot. I hope you realize that in real life I am 99% sure that I would fuck you up and then have sex with your girlfriend. Unless of course you were gay, and then I would simply feel sorry for you cocksucker. Enjoy you evening being balls deep in your teddy bear. God I hope you're not slant eyed with a name like nakazato.
@wjkerk ok. now your comment is off topic and all i see is nothing but personal attack since my opinion is not similar to yours and you simply want to force only your own. sorry i dont even feel hurt. i feel sorry for you for even making a heck of a racist comment of my username.
probably faster then I can do, mostly cause i haven't practiced in a while, but I was told to leave the weapon pointed down range and still in my shoulder and do not lose my sight picture.
@maineiack I have heard of that tactic too, people will argue both ways. Definitely harder to do things without looking, but if it is dark, you can't see the gun even if it is in your workspace- so keeping the weapon downrange makes sense to me.
any one with experience doesnt need to look at the ejection port to know if its a misfire, double feed, or out of rounds. you can confirm that with the sound it makes.presious seconds save lives. lets not show the wrong way to do things here gentlemen come on.
@gorepit The reasoning behind peeking into the ejection port is that you won't always be able to hear or feel the difference between a bolt lock back and a malf. He's barely taking a fraction of a second to do this, and there's video of him out there doing reloads much faster as well. The time taken to do this sort of pales in comparison to the time you might waste trying to clear a malf that isn't there, or the time you might waste loading up when you have a FTF.
tac reload needs work..lifting your rifle telegraphs the reload to your enemy. unless your scout, recon, lrs, etc you really worried about retaining a mag in a firefight.?

for sports you deffo only did SPRS.... what happened to observing and tapping? granted 95% of the time you wont need to tap observiing is pretty important and you didnt bother
bigplayer2382 1 month ago
@bigplayer2382 Clearing a jam has to be treated with a sense of urgency and understanding what is wasted movements when milliseconds count on the battlefield. If you observed that a round extracted out of the chamber without looking directly at the bolt area, that's faster and less movement. Tapping the forward assist is very rare. Magpul renamed it to "Tap, Rack, Bang.." SPORTS is literally obsolete to advanced trainers like them that cover the other 3 ways to clear different malfunctions.
IMFDB 1 month ago
@IMFDB guy i think i know a little bit more about the "battlefield" then you do. So dont try and explain dumb shit to me. If they wanna re-name it re-name it by all means, just dont say your doing SPORTS then only do half of it. also if your in that big of a rush its prob because your not behind cover.. and that right there is your mistake. In my eyes these guys are training for events that never will happen civilian side, and SHOULD NEVER happen military side. ie. standing up shooting..
bigplayer2382 1 month ago
@bigplayer2382 Training to shoot without cover is worst case scenario and they train for those scenario's because you don't get to pick which place you get shot at. Taking cover is a common sense factor that does need to be taught on a range. Accuracy maybe final to most people but speed is gonna come first in order to get accuracy. To be honest I think these guys have better fundamentals than Army/Marine Basic Combat Training.
IMFDB 1 month ago
@IMFDB I think these guys would die quick deployed and so would you. if your ever in any scenario like that why the fuck would you still be standing trying to reload? why not drop to a knee/prone? lower your silhouette? dont get yourself killed. you say find cover is such "common sense" why do they always train standing.. i guess taking a knee/prone isnt common sense when you can do it anywhere?
bigplayer2382 1 month ago
@IMFDB if im ever having a "stand off" like these guys train for and im up close and my weapon jams. I'm not going to try and stand their and fix it and wait, im going to charge at them and take them to the ground to get a fair fight because they will have shot you by the time you fix your jam if you stand there. apply pressure to them.. and if your having a stand off at a distance.. why stay standing tryign to fix it? what they they teach is hollywood, not real combat sorry
bigplayer2382 1 month ago
@bigplayer2382 WOW, your really smart. Trying to zoom in on a guy sprinting with the gun at 30% speed. These guys teach the fundamentals of dynamic weapons manipulation and shooting on the move later in the video. You the shooter have to decide which combination of these fundamentals to use when the situation dictates. If you were watching disc 1 of this video you would understand why this video was presented in the first place.
IMFDB 1 month ago
@IMFDB wtf u talkin about twat? i said charge him i dont mean run at him shooting you dumb fuck. i mean you try and take your shot, you see that it jams so you charge him to apply the pressure on him and your not standing their dumbfounded trying to unjam your rifle. PLEASE entertain me with your credentials of being trained. and dear god do not say "well i once watched a DVD on it"
bigplayer2382 1 month ago
@bigplayer2382 Your not showing very elaborate scenarios. What you see in the video are not absolute way of doing things. There just things to practice until you build muscle memory, if you want to incorporate movement while clearing jams or take cover to clear them than you can. This is just showing the fine details because it's easier to watch out in the open than taking cover blocking the camera's line of sight. Army BCT programs don't get very in depth into gun manipulation; these people do.
IMFDB 1 month ago
@IMFDB im glad your starting to realize that your wrong so your shifting your view... in the beginning you were saying how your just training for worst case scenarios, now your saying its just gun manipulation. and ones who go threw army BASIC are not the ones doing the shooting now are they. Its the INFANTRYMEN who are the trained professionals. No need to teach everyone fine details on combat when they will sit behind a desk and never shoot their rifle....
bigplayer2382 1 month ago
@IMFDB what im pointing out is by doing this technique over and over again to get that muscle memory, its NOT the muscle memory you want, when shit kicks off and you are firing downrange you dont want your muscle memory to be telling you to reload/fix a jam standing up...
bigplayer2382 1 month ago
@bigplayer2382 You obviously don't want to stand up in a gun fight, these people never intended to show it like that. Yes you do want muscle memory for your gun manipulation skills. Understress when your body get overwhelmed and you hands start going into gross motor skills, sunconscious weapons movement is your number 1 asset. If people could get a consistent pencil grip while getting shot at because theyve done it a million times.Than they should be getting repetitions with their speed reloads
IMFDB 1 month ago
@bigplayer2382 I got a off topic question. Coincidentally I wanna join Army Infantry next year and was wondering is it true that not all men get issued M9 pistols for squad?
IMFDB 1 month ago
@IMFDB Army Infantry is the way to go. The pride that goes along with the Infantry is priceless. They are easily the most respected mos in the army. The only people who get issued M9's are medic's, 240B gunners (for close combat), and officers. Other then that everyone has an M4/M249. Trust me, an M9 will be the least of your worries. The M4 is everything you need and some for close combat.
bigplayer2382 1 month ago
@bigplayer2382 Yeah that makes sense. A pistol is only mandatory if your going into combat solo without a team. Your team backs you up whenever you need to speed reload your M4 when there's no lull in the gun fights. I personally hate how the M9 safety is mounted so high on the slide. I'd rather have a safety mounted on the grip or no safety at all like a Glock.
IMFDB 1 month ago
@IMFDB i agree, im not a fan of the M9. I'm a fan of the M&P myself, same DOA as the glock tho and same consistent trigger pull. As infantry you wont ever go into combat solo. Not unless your CAG. even then you will have backup somewhere. Unless your any type of SOF you should pretty much always have a 3:1 ratio to the enemy if your on the offense, and if not you will have some serious assets.

They all combine together to win wars.
cutkevinthroat 1 week ago
@cutkevinthroat NO YOU STUPID PRICK. you just pissed me off. do you really think fallujah was all marines? 1st ID was in there. Go read the book "house to house" about an infantry squad leaders experiances in fallujah. It was a joint effort with marines and army. He received multiple awards for what he did in there and was put up for the medal of honor. And i was talking about the casualty RATE not the amount of casualties. look at the statistics.
bigplayer2382 1 week ago
The Urban Prone isn't the best roll-over prone position as there is a risk that the ejected casings may bounce back into the bolt and cause the carbine to jam, as mentioned by ex-Delta Force Master Sergeant Larry Vickers. The Reaction Side would be a safer option, although both are good dynamic responses of returning fire from a prone position.
SpecJack15 1 month ago
@SpecJack15 Thinking about which position your guns gonna jam is not something that your gonna do understress. The chances of that happening are less than 1%; and the chances of you getting in that position is less than 1% of that previous 1%. You got a reasonable excuse but you have backups like pistols and using your training to clearing the jam. I wouldn't listen to Larry very much because last video I saw him in he definitely wasn't transitioning to his pistol consistently and urgently.
IMFDB 1 month ago
@IMFDB Ok, pistols. How are you gonna draw your pistol when you're lying on your strong side when your rifle jams? Its more of a last resort position. At least in Reaction Side you can draw your secondary. And speaking of Larry, he does emphasize on pistol draw very much, if you watch his shooting classes. "The rifle is intended to be shot in an upright position, as the iron sights are made to be used vertically."
SpecJack15 1 month ago
@SpecJack15 You obviously got to roll on your back and simply draw your sidearm. I've seen a video of Larry transition to his sidearm with a jacket covering it and still grabbing it sloppy. He doesn't cover how to transition or practice all the hasty positions like these guys do. Understress you don't think about which side prone ur gonna get into, you simply get into that position and lay down fire.
IMFDB 1 month ago
@IMFDB Ok, but minor things make a difference. You shouldn't let haste take over your shooting fundamentals. Sure, its good to be dynamic. But the more you rush it the worse your precision is.
SpecJack15 1 month ago
@SpecJack15 Your marksmanship skills get really degraded during high stress situations due to degraded hand-eye coordination, and hyper extended movement. If your cognitively thinking about fundamentals everytime you shoot your not ready for a real firefight because the stressful parts of your mind overwhelm you to think about fundamentals. That's why practicing with consistent repetitions is very important until your subconscious mind takes over like gripping a pencil without thinking about it.

I dont get the thing with the double feed: why doesnt he immediately remove the mag and then pull back the charging handle? wouldnt it be faster removing the mag fist then ejecting the bullet by pulling the charging handle and then loading the next mag? pls answer or tell me if the question's hard to understand.
RastaEugen 2 months ago
@RastaEugen If you remove the mag (If the mag even comes out) the bolt will be forced by the buffer spring and will push the already jammed obstruction(s) deeper in to the chamber, effectively wedging it in there. Its ALOT easier to clear the stoppage without any unneccesary force applied against you as the operator. Try a self induced double feed and youll see what Im talking about. Hope that helps.

the second reload drills is kinda off...I'm a marine and i seem to find the L shape method more effective if my bolts locked to the rear i first place the new mag in the L shape the eject the mag......then still holding the mag out and near the rim of the mag weld move you wrist up 90 degrees toward you and place the new mag firmly in the mag weld.....after that take your hand off the new mag and while still holding the empty mag move your wrist toward you another 90 degrees and slap the blot HA
token5011 3 months ago
@token5011 If your bolts locked to the rear there's no point of doing a tac reload, the speed reload should be treated with a sense of dynamic urgency cause your out of ammo. A tac reload is only for when your get a lull in the gunfight, and your have time and opportunity to do it. Tac reloads don't seem to work so great on USGI mags either, mostly P-Mags.

Jonboyi 4 months ago
@Jonboyi Er...sir. The acronym is Slap (the base of the mag), Pull (the charging handle to the rear), Observe, Release (the charging handle), Tap (the forward assist to ensure the bolt is home), and Shoot.

ELITEWAFFLES9 2 months ago
@SocksOnLast I did 4 tours in the middle east. The LAST thing I was doing was counting my rounds as I returned fire while RPGs were being sent my direction. It doesn't matter what equipment you run, you better know how to fix it if it goes down. SPORTS is the most efficient way of doing this with a modern m4 type rifle. Costa and Haley are some of the best instructors I have met, and they teach to shoot from cover when possible. They are showing manipulations here so they may be practiced.

@68jgil
Been doing Combat Marksmanship with the Marines for years...
Speed reloads are done on the enemy's time...and you drop your mag.
Tactical reloads are done on your time (a lull in the fight) and you retain your mag because it's not empty.
Hope this helps.
Chilibowl77 5 months ago 17
@68jgil Wrong, tactical reloads by definition retain mags. Its why you do them, and you retain them because there are still rounds in the magazine, hence the tactical bit.

gorepit 5 months ago
@wjkerk ant @gorepit heres why Costa spins the rifle:
>Peers into the Chameber to see WTF Is his gun not firing.
>Identifies (S-pipe, Ammo out, whatever)
>solves the problem(Speed Reload, TapRackBang[SPORTS], etc)
and having watched the whole DVD set, its not important to swing the mag, IT IS important to check the eject port or chamber.
@Arostyle380 pointing the rifle off target allows easy input of the mag in periphery vision, plus adds safety if a friendly crosses your line of fire
nakazatoGTR 5 months ago
I know he knows his stuff... But he does EVERYTHING different to all the other pro's. When reloading I was alway taught to to hold the rifle still putting in the direction of my target so as soon as that mags in I can start firing again rather than having the swing the gun back down like Costa does...
Arostyle380 5 months ago
@Arostyle380 There's controversy behind that, that's usually called the "don't let the bad guy know your out of ammo technique." Doing it like Costa, gives you a view of the battlefield for more possible threats, while your reloading. If you focus to much on that magwell without multitasking, and paying attention at more possible threats you decrease your survivalbility rate.

@maineiack I have heard of that tactic too, people will argue both ways. Definitely harder to do things without looking, but if it is dark, you can't see the gun even if it is in your workspace- so keeping the weapon downrange makes sense to me.
camdogs88 5 months ago
any one with experience doesnt need to look at the ejection port to know if its a misfire, double feed, or out of rounds. you can confirm that with the sound it makes.presious seconds save lives. lets not show the wrong way to do things here gentlemen come on.
gorepit 5 months ago
@gorepit The reasoning behind peeking into the ejection port is that you won't always be able to hear or feel the difference between a bolt lock back and a malf. He's barely taking a fraction of a second to do this, and there's video of him out there doing reloads much faster as well. The time taken to do this sort of pales in comparison to the time you might waste trying to clear a malf that isn't there, or the time you might waste loading up when you have a FTF.
