  • wow

  • why do ppl have to place shit on youtube.. really how lifeless are you man.. screw you

  • here in alaska we see movement on the water tht is very close to that which you filmed ours seam to seals, thanks for the video

  • The dobhar chu. In my view the legendary monsters in ireland are what could be referred to as "king otters" that happen to grow 5-7 feet in length. Though rare, these occurences do happen in nature.

  • @whiskeygoggles - my point is that why does it never happen to the general public. If anyone else was watching that they would have seen ducks. But because he has it in his head that the monster is there - he immediatley associates anything on the lake to be of monster origin. If you study sharks every time something happens in the ocean you dont assume it to be a shark. I believe in the paranormal - but this video really shows nothing.

  • Alot of those lakes in Ireland, britian high country are surrounded by large hills such as this one. Wind current is heavy and do blow down onto the water and cause riffles on the surface in many different fashions. I seen that myself.

  • Its interesting that people that 'believe' in these things always seem to just stumble across the evidence. What a coincidence. He just happened to study lake monsters and then bam! lake monster.

  • @skiczn Is it really a coincidence that someone who spends much time searching for these anomilies might actually be the person to see it? If I study sharks then bam I see one it must be a coincidence right.

  • it seems that the distance from the lake would'nt show a bird or water fowl as much more than a small spec on video, whereas, the ripple left behind by the wingbeat is visible, also keep in mind it was raining

  • @Flamorgan European otter.

  • The ripple trails to the right of the island--starting about 4:15--look very much like muskrat or some similar animal swimming. Their heads barely stick out of the water. Other people's explanation of birds skimming along the surface of the water for the most 'exciting' part of this video sounds spot on to me.

  • Personally I think the large white circles are schools of fish being herded together. The fish cause the ripples, the birds eat the fish trying to escape, the things chasing the fish get their food too. The dark shapes are the birds. But this is just an assumption; the quality isn't good enough for me to get a clear look.

  • Sorry, but to me it seems a large bird of prey that has caught a fish that drags thru the water for a bit. I can just about see the wings flap. Later, the second small splash looks as iff the bird grazed the water once again.

  • LMFAO ! @Frit0Pie . Hahahahaha ..!

  • Buy a tripod, fix the focus manually to infinity, and use a polarising filter. I think most of these anomalous objects are wakes left by seabirds taking off and small shoals of fish.

  • iv seen these animals before wintering in our lakes ..[Phalacrocorax carbo] danger danger danger thank god. someone got them on tape.people said i was mad

  • @anthonybarrett79 latin for a cormarant?

  • @thebleeding7 yes bro

  • At 6:42 to 6:51 briefly a dark object is moving at the end of "Torpedo Trail". It Seems to me the dark object, or Eel thing would seem longer not short thing at end of trail. Most eyewintess accounts Say its a Long neck Dino. Champ seems to be like one. As for Caborosaurs and Oogmoo are Eels Thats my Oponion

  • The Torpedo was clearly a big bird flying just above the water.A classic .......

  • seals

  • ITS DA CREATURE !

  • i wish i could talk like this :D

  • Dont be so mean he sounds like a gentleman..

  • Doc Shiels' Loch Ness monster photo is soo fake there's no ripples... lol and he talks like a psychic.

  • the dark object at 6:40 looks like a BIRD taking off out of the water (to the left of the rock)

large white splash that narrows as it takes off, then it skims above the water (leaving a slightly delayed wake) then touches down again (6:52) before exiting screen bottom right.

The dark object even seems to grow/shrink, due to the distance/camera, all that we can resolve of the flapping of the wings is the blinking we see as it darts over the water.

  • The dark object looks like a bird (duck, goose) skimming the surface as it takes off out of the water from the left of that rock.

White splash at the takeoff, and another when it lands.

Also the dark object grows and shrinks, repeatedly. Like wings flapping.

  • there are numerous boats on the lake- why didnt they film closer to get a better shot- i love Muckross lake- they are certainly big and deep enough to hold immense creatures and why not

  • he sounds like winnie the pooh

  • it is a torpedo

  • Its a torpedo you said it

  • im irish and this is fake fake fake simples

  • Cryptozoology novel see video book trailer

  • lake monster or not , that is a beautiful lake

  • Why, why, why, move the camera away

just when something starts to happen?

Why look it's something phenomena- so now

lets point the camera at some unremarkable

    bushes in the foreground.

    Oy.....

  • @TheLastSaneManLeft I know, right?

  • I don't know how you say you can clearly see a bird. It very well may be, but I don't see anything come up out of the water and take off.

  • at 6:50 what your seeing is a large bird taking off from the water. the reason the wake looks so vast is because you are stood a quarter of a mile away so you can hardly see the bird but the wake is easily visible because of the light on the water. you can just about make out the bird take off at the end of the wake. there is no monster, your just stood that far away you cant make out the birds creating the wakes but you can make out the wakes themselves due to the light. Mystery solved

  • i live in killorglin and i visit killarney every week and once with my cousin we saw something really big in the water we did not see it only its shadow we ran back straight away and told our parents but they would not belive us what should i do do u have any tips please talk back.

  • @MultiKeelin call chuck norris, he'll know what to do

  • @MultiKeelin you must capture it at any cost!! children swim in that lake!!!!

    return and do your best-GODSPEED!!!

  • Look at frame at 6:48 you can see clearly it is a bird may be an eagel or some large bird of some kind .. I believe that there are things like a bigfoot and some kind of plesiosaur...but I don't just believe this to anything else but a bird Like an eagel coming down onto the water and grabbing a fish out of the water and flying off .. I'm sorry I hoped for more .. but I no expert .. but they will not look at this long and laugh at you .. they will see what i seen ..

  • .__________________________.

  • never heard of a tripod?

  • It is seals. They often make their way to Kilarney lakes. I find it interesting how they had good camera control UNTIL something interesting happened then they went old school and shot bad quality video.

  • I would get in some scuba gear and lather myself up with fish oil and go for a dive : )

  • zzzzzzzzzzzzzzz

  • The Pooka appears to this one and that one, and how are you, Mr. Wilson?! As for "eels", since when do they have humps and long necks?....necks with manes and heads sporting horns? As for this video, how ridiculously silly does someone have to be to keep moving the camera around as if half-drunk, and then keep standing still at a distance instead of moving steadily forward to the shore to get a better look?

This is the problem. You get people operating cameras who are ridiculously incompetent.

  • amazing. dobharchu lives!

  • theres definatly somthing in that lake but i have no idea what it could be other than a white sturgan. they get pretty fricking huge. the largest was about 25 feet long. so it could be a sturgan

  • Why didn't you come down the shore to take a closer look at them???

  • Man if that was a bird it was going faster then ive seen a bird fly. I see the blackish figure in front of the trail left at 6:50. Whatever they were they were haulin some serious ass. They can ge to one side of that cove in a matter of seconds...very interesting

  • Dang I actually feel asleep watching this one, blah blah blah get to the point and hold the camera still can't see anything.

  • lol

  • IMHO, other than the truly magical or mythical "monsters", all other massive size "monster" need to eat a lot of food. Does the lake you are filming actually capable of supporting a huge animal with massive appetites, 24/7 365 a year ?

  • Very interesting video. Given your distance to the lake can you give an estimate of the amount of speed, distance and wake created by the "torpedo" object in comparison to the bird or duck from earlier in the video. ALso reminds me of old nature shows with british commentator.

  • you can t clearly see shit you video suck sir

  • Fake and gay!

  • Doc shiels LOL

  • was there an earthquake taking place while this video was shot? I don't have the steadiest of hand but, my goodness, this video is extremely shaky and especially so on the zoomed shots....too bad.

  • why do people always happen to have a camera out when "something exciting and mysterious" happens????????????????

  • so i dont understand if they were a quarter mile away why the hell didnt you move closer to the shore then zoomed in with the camera instead of standing so far away and just saying oh man i wish we could find out what these were! all you have to do is walk down there

  • lol you can see the wings flapping....idiot....6:50 is a bird

  • u can make it at home ==, unfortunately

  • very interesting video, great information and commentary.

  • why do people think everything is fake on youtube jus gose to show that most people in this world suffer from peer presures but dont know it lol i am not a man of god or alien beliver but i do think that there is animals or creatures out there that have not being discoverd sum freak on youtube saw some guy fall down a stairs and calls it a fake self obsorbed people should seek the facts not brand some thing of the culf

  • at 6.40..its a bird taking off from the water...this narrator needs to see a shrink!!..monsters my ass!

  • Doc Shiels ftw!

  • Sorry to burst your bubble, but it is only birds.

  • joke? just as those white lines hit the shore to the right the camera takes a swing to the other side of the island.

  • That was amazing! When you think of all the weird and wonderful animals yet to be cataloged the world still seems to be a thing of perpetual awe!

  • @ 6:40. you cant deny that what traveled at that speed and bared to the right was undoubtably something of great proportion to make white water and ripples like that. If its not then i'd really like to know what it is! I do believe that there are things out there that we havent discovered yet

  • not a lake monster.

  • great footage! i was reading your article in Fortean Times and noticed the url for the video. wonderful to be able to read about your experience and then see it myself.

  • if yall want to see a real lake monster go look up KONAWA LAKE MONSTER right here on youtube!!!its really disturbing!!!!weve even got part two of the video that were uploading in a few hours so go check em out

  • It's no lake monster, dumbasses.

That's just what it looks like when Bigfoot takes a swim.

  • Why are you not filming closer to the water?

  • If Doc Shiels is involved it's fake.

  • @gaspode18 "And I would have gotten away with it too, if it wasn't for you meddeling kids"

  • I wouldn't say it was a "fake" just because the Doc was involved. But it appears that Jon was a little economical with the truth about Doc Shiels involvement and actions that day. It appears that he was more instrumental in the sighting, (according to the FT article), than Jon would have led us believe when this video was first posted. You have to wonder, now why would that be?

  • I just don't trust the Doc - he has been involved in a lot of very dubious stuff.

  • LOL - Doc may be dodgy as hell, BUT even he hasn't got the powers to make birds take off on cue. Although he does seem to be able to fool some of the gullible members of the CFZ on a regular basis.

  • thankyou....

    most lovely and interesting....

    how exciting :)

  • My names John Downes and im a T*sser!

  • What a load of sh*te. Ive seen many ripples like that. Its the way the sun is hitting the water which is catching and highlighting the ripple. I would say it was a swan only its not big enough. Its probably a duck. Has nobody heard of the ripple effect?? Muppets!

  • ahh but dont you see fellow viewers

this is an edited edition of the film and the initial film contain the explict commentry of my grandfather effing and blinding.paintings.look up his paintings.and his books that's what he wants you look up..as far as i know.

  • The video appears in the Dec 2009 issue of Fortean Times explaining the images we see. The commentary was added when the group returned to England.

  • i can see a swirling circle in the center of the video...wow, it looks like a giant eel

  • Bird, Bird , Bird, Bird, lovely bird flying over a lake... zzzzzzz

  • You can't clearly see anything special in this video. I could do the same, filming a little lake in my region and it would look like the same. Maybe there are some 'oversized' creatures in this lake, but i can see no indications for that here. And the thing he describes as 'like a torpedo' is a bird for sure! You can see it easily on 6:50

  • @Goblinkiller99 IF YOU DRINK ENOUGH IRISH WHISKEY YOU CAN SEE THINGS

  • @Goblinkiller99 to be fair he did say there were two other lakes cojoined to that one

  • looks strange

  • wow those idiots had the chance to see what it really was,but instead they stood there talking like fags, watching from way far away not doing shit.fuck these idiots

  • yeah they are a quarter of a mile a way and they would have gotten there in time.

  • yeah this is the kind of thing that makes me think, are they making it up or are they just stupid

  • watch the documentary

  • Jon, Firstly, at timecode 4:32 these are two mink swimming back from the rocky island, had you kept your camera on the sequence you would have seen them leave the water and come onto to land, Secondly, at timecode 5:57 what you filmed was a grey seal hunting a shoal of salmon. Seals from time to time have migrated from the sea to the Lakes of Killarney. Salmon will sometime pack closely together and swim as one unit at tremendous speed just under the surface when hunted by a seal.

  • Wow! This is..interesting.

  • I know this is real because Doc Shiels would never lie!

  • The "torpedo" is a bird...It flew away

  • it is pretty strange??

  • It looks real, and the narrator seems to be honest... The lake seems to be VERY active with large creatures. Why not camp on the shore, in excellent camoflage, with a tripod? Why not go out in a boat, and put some 360 cameras on floats? Why not use underwater cameras dragged by boats? Or have a brave diver go look? It seems to be the most convenient place for monster sightings. Ever.

  • here is a tip. get. CLOSER.

    or its fake

  • oh...nice one ufowo! (on the water) :O

  • kool r there more videos from this lake ?? maybe closer. i know many of these videos could be easly explained and we just seeing wat we want 2 c but the part with wat looks like a black object moving so fast under the water is very interesting.

  • b nmvnm

  • its fukin chris ubank talkin. thats where hes gone. no serious it is

  • Surely it's a *lough* monster if it's in Ireland.

  • Wow..... is this guy reading from a story book. Quite the buildup for a bird taking off from the water.... Almost sold me. Oh wait is it one of those USO's?

  • Hahaha , sum TURKEY !

  • Its true. Go fullscreen and you can see the bird flying off. The camera pulls back when it becomes to obvious. There goes my trip to the lakes on saturday... Bastards. Go look for publicity else where!!

  • Omg ....can this be true?...Fucking birds on a Lake, thats unbelievable.

  • The Monster is the one who talks too much!

  • I couldn't have said it better myself ;-)

  • It was a bluegil

  • Really Big Bird?

  • Correct, go full screen and you will see that is in fact a bird!

the bird is landing first and after a while kind of running on the water and lifts of.

I want to see a real MONSTER, never mind maybe another time different lake :-)

  • Do you know what a fucking tripod is?

  • if don't want use tripod, at least buy a video camera with better anti shake function.

my head feel faint after watch this video

  • i woulda ran down

  • Well I really don't think eels swim in a straight line like that at all. Zoologists? I think it's a dead giveaway when they pronounce it "zoo-ologist" that they aren't (probably crypto - nothing wrong with that btw). I really liked the narration though. I'd suggest setting up a camera near the lake and then compare the long shots to the closeups. I'm sure you'll see that they are in fact all birds. Do a single blind test to see if the observer can identify the cause of the surface disturbance.

  • It's a bird people, look at the "torpedo" again CLOSELY you can see a dark bird right in front of the wake being made. It's flying low and skimming the water surface.

  • That last animal was obviously a large dark bird... nothing moves that fast underwater, the camera pans away just as it takes flight.

  • sounds like you read it out of a novel, well done

  • Excellent work Jon! I for one appreciate your sensitivity to others by not including the actual audio. I certainly would have been very vocal. As to aiming the camera, I would have difficulty staying on target. It only adds to the validity of the clip. As to be a lake "monster", I don't know about that but you certainly stirred up many YouTube monsters with this video! LOL

Like I said, I think the "creature' on the left was a bird too. The 3 on the right is another issue altogether!

  • @stitchthat

Actually the CFZ Members DID go to the lake to investigate sightings reported to them by "Doc" Shiels. A man well known for "stretching the truth"

  • The simple facts are that Jonathon Downes made a rod for his own back, by releasing this video, WITHOUT having a thoroughly good look at it. By proclaiming the video to be one of the greatest ever of a lake "creature" he sets himself up for a fall, because he didn't bother to review the images properly. If he had taken a little time to go through it frame by frame, he'd have seen that most of the waves and splashes were from fish and birds (most probably cormorants).

  • The only one segment of the video that is of any interest is of the creatures swimming from the large island to the shore on the right hand side. And unfortunately, the cameraman panned away just as these creatures reached the shore. What are they?. And why did he not continue filming them. Unfortunately Mr Downes in his wisdom decided to delete the real soundtrack to the film. Claiming it was due to the bad language Sceptics might say it is due to the witnesses knowing what they were watching

  • It might be of interest for Mr Downes to re-release the video, but with the original soudtrack. He could always beep out the swear words if he feels the are a bit much, but we would at least get a feel if there was genuine excitement at what they were seeing, or perhaps the footage was a little more calculated than claimed.

  • OK, good point. In tomorrow's edition of On The Track, I will put a section of the video with the swearing beeped. I wouldnt have taken the soundtrack off if it hadn't been for the fact that various idiots in the crypto community would then have attacked me for being a bad influence on kids by swearing. I can't fucking win!

  • I'd be interested to hear what was being said, when the camera was filming the animals swimming from the large island to the shore. If ONLY Max had continued filming that area for another 10 seconds.

  • I'm just wondering if you will still be putting the unedited video on your blog.

I can't see it at the moment

  • if i remember right the cfz say they filmed some THINGS i dont remember greatest video of a lake monster ever.

  • What he said, was that he believed it was one of the most important pieces of video of "anomolous" objects ever. However the title of the video includes the words "lake monster". So by default rightly or wrongly, he was linking the words lake monster to the objects seen.

  • No we didn't we only stopped at the lake because it was too late in the day to go to a Priory that Corinna wanted to see. And I first heard about the Mucross creatures from Daev Walsh's `Blather` newsletter, not from Tony S...

  • The cameraman seems to deliberately go off the subject right when it gets interesting. From the high vantage point, operatives with a four-wheeler, a cable, and a floating 'monster' could be dragging the thing at high speeds across the water, out of sight of the cameraman due to the steep banks of the lake. I'm not saying this is how they did it, just that the video is inconclusive.

  • i have followed the work of the cfz for a good few years but the only thing i was ever going to comment on was their stupid remarks about video games and the inner city scum that play them, but i have to say that all you morons leaving dumb remarks should back off examine their work and realise that they where not looking for a monster and whatever is on this video they are i believe good honest ppl ( even though i come from the inner city AND play video games

  • Neither all people who play video games, nor all the people who live in inner cities are scum. If I have ever given the impression that I believe that, then I apologise unreservedly. I play such games myself, but I do find the mindset that "my generation don't need books and music - we have video games" (which I have been told on several occasions by young people) to be highly disturbing. Now, we've got that out of the way, I'm off to play Command + Conquer

  • Jonathon, it wasn't you who made those comments, but your colleague Richard Freeman. who said on the CFZ blog "What kind of parents would let their kid play a game like that? The answer is estate trash chavs to whom society seems to pander in everything.". I know you do not like to censor blogs, but this is not the first time this person as well as others, have made innappropriate comments on the CFZ blogs

  • i cant remember who said it but it was a comment on a blog moaning about a deer killing game then all video games then some1 else made the comment about inner city scum. But ppl saying you are liars makes me a lot more angry. keep up the good work i am off to kill some zombies in killing floor.

  • 6:44 looks to me like a black bird is starting to fly then takes of and lands again on the water

  • Holy shit this guys voice is so HOLLYWOOD!!! He should be doing voice-overs. He'd be making bank!

  • Hollywood? Goodness me. That is very kind of you to say so. But I do indeed read stories to my neices and nephews, and - no doubt - will do to my grandchildren when my lovely stepdaughters eventually present me with some

  • Are yuo "ELEL"fan too?

  • What to do? Well, maybe hold the GODDAMN CAMERA STILL? I cant see much in this video, being of lousy quality, low resolution, showing some stupid grass in the (supposedly) most important moment. There sure are many species in this world yet unknown to man. Yet clips like this wont get us anywhere.

  • lol if u look closely at 6:40 where he says there´s something like a torpedo u can see clearly a bird which makes the illusion of a sea monster

im 99% sure that this was a bird

  • i also agree. i'm not doubting what the great story telling man saw with the awesome accent. But that part was unmistakably a bird. I am not an expert. The part which you mention looks like a bird. Let me tell Everyone here! The Narrator has a voice that can be in movies. Sounds exactly like the dude with the long black hair in Harry Potter.lol. He can read me bedtime stories everyday, and no im not gay. But does being gay have to do with getting a person to read to me and the kids. lol.

  • Birds fishing.

  • I had a comment typed up and it was waaaaaaaaaaaaay over the character limit. So one word: Bollocks.

  • Interesting video but next time how about fitting a tripod and keeping the video steady so your viewers don't get sea sick watching. It's interesting to know that man doesn't know everything and hasn't identified every single creature that occupies the earth with us. If such creatures could be identified they could be protected so they don't become extinct.

  • smorio sam se ko ker dok sam ovo gledao

  • taking a second look at the footage you can clearly see "The torpedo" as he says is some sort of bird or duck as you can see the motion of the wings

this guy is a good story teller and the camera did his job with remaining unfocused and keeping the camera uncontrollable with the shakes

try watching it with the sound off not to be hoaxed into seeing something that is not really nothing from the norm.

  • Why is it that every time someone captures one of these creatures on film or photo, it's either blurry or the camera is shaky

If these guys want to be taken seriously, the camera guy filmed the grass more consistently then anything else

    probably fake

Unless they go back set up two cameras on tripods for a steady image and close up shots

  • What do you mean by "fake"? They are only claiming that these are anomalous objects worth investigating. Nothing more. No one said "Here are lake monsters".

  • I take back calling it ,"fake" just so much of these things turn out to be hoaxes my first reaction was negative, so my apologize.

It does look like a bird though.

  • Your moronic point which you lifted from the one documentary you watched (can you even read?) has been noted, mocked and debunked. If you are correct, and some Germanic non-Celtic peoples were included under the bracket by the Romans, so what? Would that mean that mean that the Celtic people, defined linguistically, racially, culturally, are really a myth? Get a grip. The romanticised version, as you call it (no capital needed, genius), is the history of the Gaelic people, who were: CELTIC. tard

  • You are coming across as being extremely ignorant. Watch the documentary and then you can debate the archeologists, anthropologists, and other scientists who dispute the modern "Romanticized" notion of what constitutes "Celtic".

Channel4 has a webpage on the documentary with good info.

  • when I look closer I around 7:00 it is just another big bird starting, tipping the water again at one point.

  • This was a Conrad FM submarine.

  • very interesting. There are more mysteries in the world than we even imagine...

  • I know that every time I have a nice, mysterious lake monster perfectly framed in a video shot, I immediately take the camera off the subject. Sometimes I film grass, sometimes clouds, sometimes something else. But you never want to have a very clear shot of a lake monster. It would go against tradition.

  • It's easy to criticise, isn't it? Filming moving objects, especially at a distance is not as simple as you might think.

  • give my 8 min. of life back please...this is an insult to my intelligence! It also makes me sleepy...
