First time I've ever subscribed to anyone on Youtube. And I've been on here for years and years. Think that's a compliment. Guitar is right on the money, very impressive. Vocals are good, but would like to see you let yourself go a bit more. Have the confidence to really go for it.
@tknick90@radiohead419 It's a Tele-based prototype from John Carruthers in Venice, CA. I think they only make chambered ones now, but I really like it. It's modeled after a '54 Tele.
veyr cool man . ive been tryin to pick up the guitar but im not sure where to start . i bought one tho but its just eye candy until i sit down and play it .. any pointers on where to start ?
@tkopuck It really depends... you can't go wrong with learning chords and simple songs. As you progress, try to learn about music theory (melody, harmony, rhythm, scales and such).
Excellent cover my man. I've learned so much from your tutorials. I'm sure you've seen the videos of Thom playing "Airbag" acoustically. I saw him recently here in Chicago when he went on tour with Atoms for Peace and he played it then. I hope you could do that one soon. Keep it goin brother.
@Desperado8600 An acquaintance who was going on a long trip left this little Acoustic® amp at my place, never reclaimed it after repeated attempts to contact him. It's this old-school, low wattage, two-channel amp - one clean, one overdrive - and it came with this ghetto-looking wooden footswitch. It's solid state. I have an all-tube 25W amp that sorta sounds like an old Fender Tweed that I haven't played on YouTube yet.
@Cazaq It's a challenge. I am not the best at it, myself. The key for me is to get the guitar part so that it's almost automatic... when it becomes an almost brainless action, you can focus more on the singing. Another way of looking at it is seeing the vocal and guitar parts as parts of one big whole. Seeing how they align or don't helps you arrange them in your mind. That's the best way I can explain on YouTube...
@Cazaq One more tip I use often (I haven't tried on this song yet though). Try to think that your hand won't stop moving up and down and you'll touch the strings when you want them to sound instead of thinking of a precise strumming pattern.
Doing this will allow you to play a natural rhythm to you which is likely to be close to the real one, and in case it is not... Get used to a simpler and get it more complex when you feel ready (maybe in 3 months when you'll have worked other songs).
@petemendozaM16 Yah I'd love so much to hear you do that one too Warren. Of course, I don't think Thom ever played it on guitar.. did he? Have you done any Piano/Guitar transpositions? And amazing job on Optimistic! the guitar is spot on (but of course it would be). Haha.. you should have continued on through In Limbo.
I've never become fan of anything on Facebook unless It's groups giving money to the red cross/etc per member.
But You deserve it, I am deeply grateful for all the songs I've learned here. Your Youtube channel by itself pretty much saved 5 months of my life when I was lost and alone in Germany. It's meaningful and beatiful what you do for us. Thank you Warren Lain:)
I was wondering when you were going to get around to this one! Is it weird that i feel some sort of validation about my version after seeing yours? lol
LOL whatever, I just do my thing. My older videos are less accurate than the newer ones anyway (my ear keeps improving, and my experience with Radiohead's approach to the guitar gets more refined as well). It's a process!
thanks warren. i send you my video of optimistic (it's cut before cause of a youtube probleme). i will do another version thanks to your video which it's such better..

no matter what guitar you play this song the drop d really gives it that awesome low "ting" sound
,
its simply a sin to not play the open d along with the progression

perfect cover warren!
