The next year AI asked Clay back to sing this song in its entirety. Clay, dressed all in black, belting out this song with the amazing 'glory note', 'brought everyone to their knees'. One of the top 5 performances ever on AI.

I have to admit, I got out of listening to Clay for a short while because he finally let it out that he was gay. I was in high school being made fun of being a Claymate so I thought after this happened, it was time to just set Clay aside from my life. But as the months went by, I just couldn't help it, Clay saved my life when I was about to commit suicide. I couldn't leave him behind in my life. I do not care if he's gay. He will always be part of my life.

It is sad that sexual preference is even considered when talking about someone being gifted or not. This is a gifted voice. I have a feeling people who hate Clay just because of being gay are not comfortable with themselves and certainly not able to sing anywhere close to what he can. Sadly Clay is done. The same machine that brought him up to fame, is now turned him into a caricature all due to the fact is he or isn't he gay. Careers are destroyed due to don't ask don't tell.
The fabulous thing about Clay is that he sounds just as great in a live concert (if not BETTER!) as he does on a cd. I sat in disbelief as he hit and held those notes in concert. Clay has a voice that is definitely a gift from God. I pray we haven't heard the last of him!

Clay Aiken came in as runner up to Ruben Studdard. Aiken seems to have accomplished much more than Ruben during the past few years since AI. And, In my opinion, Aiken is one of the best vocalists who has ever appeared on American Idol.
There are some songs that Idol contestants make their own. Clay Aiken has Solitaire, Guy Sebastian of Australian Idol has Climb Every Mountain....and so forth.

Thank you so much for making an excellent video. i've never watched American Idol on TV because we don't have cable TV due to many reasons. I remembered my friends telling me about American Idol so I thought of Youtube during my vacation. When i saw and heard Clay Aiken, I was drawn to his terrific singing and looks. He is handsome, cute and has a very beautiful voice. I feel sad that he is gay. Inspite of that, i think he is the best among all the other American Idol contestants I've heard.

this song isnt about him, its his father. when he was young his mom took him from his father and they ran-bacause he was abusing her and she feared for clay's safety. once he was able to see his father, he was a person who was withdrawn fom society,and all he would do is sit in his recliner was play solitare while clay played in the floor and watched tv. all this is in his book, if you wish to find out more about him.

Yes, this was a big hit for the Carpenters. Neil wrote this and also recorded it, too, as did other singers. But..Clay sang this while competing on AI when Neil was a guest judge. Clay did such an incredible job that Neil had tears in his eyes and proclaimed: 'This will always be a Clay Aiken song.' I agree 8,000,000,000,000,000,000% that clay is WAAAAY better than ruben, but i don't think archuleta i better than cook. Archie has a soft, slow, kind of childish voice that is only good when he sings ballads. Where as Cook has a loud, strong, throaty voice that souds WONDERFUL in any song he sings. He sang "Don't Want To Miss A Thing" by Aerosmith and "Hungry Like The Wolf" by Duran Duran, two TOTALLY different sounding songs, and performed excellent on both of them. Thats y i say cooks better

It is sad that sexual preference is even considered when talking about someone being gifted or not. This is a gifted voice. I have a feeling people who hate Clay just because of being gay are not comfortable with themselves and certainly not able to sing anywhere close to what he can. People sometimes hate when they see a gift given to someone other than themselves.

I never heard Neil Sedaka sing this song. But hearing Clay Aiken sing this song sent chills through me. I have two of his CD's. He has a voice and use it well. Love him.

It doesn't matter to me at all that he is gay.....he can sing and that's the point! He seems like a very decent man and it's easy to like him. We could do worse. This country needs more tolerance. One my faves and Clay performs it better than any other, I think. Gays sometimes have a great deal of talent for the arts though they feel the need to be cute and funny. I'm Hetero, if any of you illiterate gay or Hetero slobs knows what that means. this song was originally sung by andy williams in the 70s he went to no1 in england with it clay is a great singer and his personal life has nothing to do with his singing there are loads of stars gay look at elton and george michael? being gay does not change the fact that clay aiken is a brilliant singer did he win the pop idol show in 2003?

The fabulous thing about Clay is that he sounds just as great in a live concert (if not BETTER!) as he does on a cd. I sat in disbelief as he hit and held those notes in concert. Clay has a voice that is definitely a gift from God. I pray we haven't heard the last of him!

Clay Aiken came in as runner up to Ruben Studdard. Aiken seems to have accomplished much more than Ruben during the past few years since AI. And, In my opinion, Aiken is one of the best vocalists who has ever appeared on American Idol.

Thank you so much for making an excellent video. i've never watched American Idol on TV because we don't have cable TV due to many reasons. I remembered my friends telling me about American Idol so I thought of Youtube during my vacation. When i saw and heard Clay Aiken, I was drawn to his terrific singing and looks. He is handsome, cute and has a very beautiful voice. I feel sad that he is gay. Inspite of that, i think he is the best among all the other American Idol contestants I've heard.

Clay sang this live at a tribute for Neil Sedaka. It was absolutely incredible. Neil gave a SO to only Clay and Connie Francis-and so did the audience. No S.O. for any of the other music greats who also performed!!! Amazing tribute. Neil said during AI-'This will always be known as a Clay Aiken Song.'

this song isnt about him, its his father. when he was young his mom took him from his father and they ran-bacause he was abusing her and she feared for clay's safety. once he was able to see his father, he was a person who was withdrawn fom society,and all he would do is sit in his recliner was play solitare while clay played in the floor and watched tv. all this is in his book, if you wish to find out more about him.

midnight-This song came out in 1972-6 years before Clay was even born. He first sang this during Neil Sedaka's guest judging week on AI. Clay brought tears to Neil's eyes. You can find that performance on Youtube.

Yes, this was a big hit for the Carpenters. Neil wrote this and also recorded it, too, as did other singers. But..Clay sang this while competing on AI when Neil was a guest judge. Clay did such an incredible job that Neil had tears in his eyes and proclaimed: 'This will always be a Clay Aiken song.' Clay was invited back during AI3 to sing the entire version and brought down the house. You can listen to it on Youtube(Clay Aiken Solitaire AI3).

I still like the Karen Carpenter (original) version the best, but this is the closest anything has gotten to it. He's managed to keep the honesty that the song bears and make it his own. Awesome song, great job on the video.

I agree 8,000,000,000,000,000,000% that clay is WAAAAY better than ruben, but i don't think archuleta i better than cook. Archie has a soft, slow, kind of childish voice that is only good when he sings ballads. Where as Cook has a loud, strong, throaty voice that souds WONDERFUL in any song he sings. He sang "Don't Want To Miss A Thing" by Aerosmith and "Hungry Like The Wolf" by Duran Duran, two TOTALLY different sounding songs, and performed excellent on both of them. Thats y i say cooks better
