In 1989 after comprehensive study Saeed Ivantsoff ( whome this particular fish is named after) showed strong evidence for seperate recognition of this group from rainbowfishes. Pseudomugil are Blueyes, not rainbows. Blue eyes differ from rainbows in the lacking of rigid spines in the dorsal and anal fins.
