Chartres is the most beautiful. It is difficult to compare these Gothic beauts to those of the Byzantine and Romanesque styles like St.Peters and Hagia Sophia. Nevertheless, these are all very beautiful places of worship. Sadly, nothing is made with quality like this anymore.
im an atheist but i love the sheer beauty and architecture of gothic cathedrals....totally stunning....makes you wonder how ppl back then could even build stuff like that. kinda makes me sad when i look around and see nothing but ugly steel and glass skyscrapers.
@hisavingrace7 So only the "style" of the building is goth? And is this building just a building or is this building based on some type of religion? Not goths just the "building".
@1980theone I'm actually doing a report on gothic cathedrals next week (which is why I stumbled upon this video). Here's a video and website that may help.
Search "Romanesque vs Gothic Architecture" on youtube, the first video that pops up does a great job explaining how Gothic Architecture can be identified.
Also if you search "Gothic architecture" on Wikipedia there's a lot of good information there.
May I use this video in my online art history course? It is a wonderful demonstration that will help students visualize the differences in cathedrals.
I would love to live in any of these. The amazing artistic views that have been brought about by one a many artists that no longer live today. Such beauty and finesse. Oh how i long to live in those eras of skill passion acknowledgable people. whose works go unaccounted for today. to marvel at its wake of their births would be grander than the final project. sighs* but sadly our time now has ruin these marvelous works of art and those times i wish we could disturb the world now and reliquish it
The video was meant to be a visual exploration of Gothic architecture. Nevertheless,I should have pulled the photo when I titled the piece, although the National Cathedral is still very much a European Gothic structure.
Incredible. And who actually built the origianal cathedrals? And for what purpose? The chairs and pews look totally out of place. I believe they were originally built as festival centers, for love making, feasting, dancing, music, etc. They were built on the sacred spots of the ancients. I think they were intended to resonate good energy into the earth. If only we knew real history, instead of the establishment's version. Sigh.
I should add, why is it all the real cathedrals, ie the original gothics, are only found in the lands of the Celts, France, northern Italy, Spain, England, Germany... ? English is said to have been put together fairly recently, so why are the days of the week "pagan", not "christian"? Who really built the cathedrals? What really happended during the "dark ages"? Ok, back to sleep.
Oh wow. I LOVE the architecture because of the incredible amount of little details, and the very particular atmosphere in those cathedrals... I'm in total admiration of those who built and decorated them with such an amazing artistic taste.
Beautiful music and a beautiful collection of photographs. Gothic architecture is perhaps the most beautiful form of architecture. Like John Ruskin once believed, which was that the flowers, leaves, and other forms of nature surrounding architecture are what make this type of architecture the best out of them all. In addition, it is far more complex than the other forms of architecture.
Not only is it beautiful because it is complex and unique, but because it is mostly dedicated to religion.
I think gothic cathedrals are some of the most beautiful buildings ever created. I'm Catholic but I don't think it matters which religion you belong to. Everyone should be able to appreciate buildings like this.
This is a most moving video, one of the best on Youtube. You are exposing the whole world to these beautiful places and beautiful music. Bravo and thank you!
i may not always believe the things that the Catholics believe but the the music and the churches is what keeps me Catholic..... beautiful churches....
I no longer believe in Christianity myself after 40 years of being a Catholic. But the music and the churches are monuments to man's God and no matter how you believe, they make us all spiritual and humble. peace
I have been an atheist for as long as I can remember and I think gothic cathedrals are probably the most beautiful buildings ever made, and some of the most beautiful songs I have heard are catholic religious songs. It has nothing to do with believe or religion, it has to do with beauty.
@MesserschmittBf109g6 And beauty comes only from an eternal soul as all things do have them....either given forth to design or to be finished and left as a guidestone to where that soul has gone.
very nice good work

What religions are Goths?
1980theone 1 year ago
@1980theone Goth (the form of the word you are referring to) is not a religion... It's a description of the style of the building.

0:30 is that a British one? They seemed to be a big fan of the trumpet columns (not sure what the right technical term here is in English)

@MesserschmittBf109g6 and a bit to do with scaring people into giving away a bunch of their hard-earned money to build dramatic churches.
