considering that the tanks were hit by missiles that we're created to killed stuff like the M1, the tank's armor functioned extremely well.

especailly given that a good tank team would deploy the smoke screen the second it detects an incoming threat.

keep in mind, a Kornet missile can penetrate about 4 feet of Armor.
the fact that 2 out of 3 times the MK4 held, means that overall, the armor is only getting better when compared to the missiles its up against.

for comparison, in 1973, M-48 and Centurian tanks, when hit with Sagger missiles (who are much less powerful) had a 86% penetration rate.

in other words, when hit with MUCH more powerful missiles, the armor would shrug it off 2 out of 3 times.

No an RPG-29 cannot punch through a challenger 2's front they haven't lost a tank to enemy fire yet.
One took over 70 RPGs of different models including multiple 29s and was still fully functional

it punched through and ended up taking the drivers leg off.

especailly given that a good tank team would deploy the smoke screen the second it detects an incoming threat.
and especially given that the APS also points out the location of the shooter (which makes them a sitting duck).

its speculative at this point, but i'd say a single counter would have up to 5 reloads, and each tank has 2 of those.
you'll need to fire up to 11 missiles just to hit one tank, and thats just the hardkill.
factor in the armor, and any softkill it might have (which have no ammo) and you''ll need to spend a LOT of fire power just to damage 1 tank.
and considering that even TODAY, when its one hit kill, tanks are still active, the APS might be a game changer.

Hezbollah did not lose that much, they cannot conceal the deaths of its troops. Lebanon is still suffering do to the Jews bombing of its infrastructure.

@lahavhaelohim People like you should give credit to such a small militia. It destroyed the Jews in almost every aspect from its military contract sales to its military forces. I hope Hezbollah gets a few Russian anti-aircraft battalions and the Iranian long range heavy missiles ready for the Jews next war.

Hezbollah HAD long range heavy missiles during the last war too.
Israel destroyed them all while they were still on the ground.
and given the rate that hezbolla's current Missile storages keep exploding (4 since jan 09) its probable that this would repeat itself in the next war)

as for the AA idea
Syria had Some of the most advance SAM systems in the world in 2007.
and the Israeli air force just breezed through them like they weren't even there.

@lahavhaelohim The irony, I remember reading how Hezbollah has been restocking, with the introduction of "new" long range Fajr missiles etc. These large missiles will be nested in underground silos. How obviously would it be to have a huge missile errected complimenting the horizon, that is if it doesnt get bombed while raising it. These arent Katyusha rockets, these rockets would shatter the block, not just a house.

the missiles in the last war were destroyed IN their silos (we knew were they were beforehand)
as for the russian APS, the reason they didn't deploy it was it was killing anyone around the tank.
instead they started installing a soft-kill counter measure on the T-90 (Shotra).
but since Soft-Kill measures aren't useful against RPG's (can't fool what doesn't have a brain) Israel instead opted to go for the Hard kill counter for the tanks and the combined Iron fist for APC.

@lahavhaelohim No, you cannot say that, Hezbollah has more decoys than the actual real thing, how was the Jews able to distinguish if other Hezbollah squads couldnt? Hezbollah has not used large calibre rockets, but rather 80-100mm probably slightly larger size rockets fired over ground. I will read up about these defence systems tommorow.

the Hezbollah had some 20 or so zelzal missiles before the 2006 war.
then an Israeli Air strike took them all out on the first day while they were still in their storage systems.

do you really think Israel doesn't have an almost complete View of Hezbollah's entire group ?
between Drones, malware, Radio and cellular listening posts and the thousands of informants all over Lebanon there is a very large range Israeli spy network in Lebanon.

we don't care enough about Lebanon to bother with it unless it actually attacks us.
if you actually developed a proper government and military instead of allowing Militant groups to set up shop all over you would be better off for it.

and given that the Israeli invasion of Lebanon ended in 2000, Hezbollah has no reason to exist anymore.
if you want an armed force to protect your country from foreign invasions, thats what an army is for.

@lahavhaelohim The Lebanese army are nothing but a promoted police, virtually. Its funny how the US sends them military aid that consists of assault rifles and ammunition, what ever happened to the man portable "Stinger", "L.A.W." and "Javelin" missile launchers. Obviously to kill its own people.

@lahavhaelohim Listen, we the Lebanese support Hezbollah, they are the barrier the Jews cannot pass on foot. You might say, If Hezbollah wasnt there, the Jews wouldnt of attacked. In this case, Lebanon would be a trolling ground for the Jews, something the Lebanese cannot accept.
You mean transport choppers and armored transport vehicles.

you consider losing 300 tanks in a surprise war with 2 different armies on two different fronts to be an indication of why a tank is not effective ?
and almost all the losses were to Anti tank missiles and not other tanks.
