  • So I guess the notes are played on harmonics, and the strings don't need to be pushed down to get the sound?

  • @Madamoiselle666 No. Bowing creates enough friction to make a note sound, without the support of the fingerboard. This is possible on every string instrument, inculding violin family.

  • a b c d e f g g f e d c b a

  • this is like playing the violin

  • uhm... I really want to learn one., though I don't have people here knows how to play Erhu.., where to buy, what kind of Erhu is good enough, re-stringing,.

I'm really curious., can I have a question? the Erhu have a two strings right? and how far can it reach in scale? you played in the vid D major scale... and is the positioning of the fingers is like playing a cello? c: I will be super happy if you answer this c:

  • @malditachan12 Hi! You can google eason music erhu and see our selections of erhu for sale. Yes the erhu has 2 strings. It can play around 3 octaves. Positioning of fingers is similar to the violin or cello.

  • It doesn't look difficult Y.Y Looks can be deceiving. I never heard of it untill I saw Saiunkoku Monigatari. What an interesting instrument! very small and delicate. I want one, but I can't afford another instrument T_T

  • @sammyenjosh I'd never heard of it until my girlfriend bought me one home from hong kong lol and a liu qin as well lol

  • @sammyenjosh Saiunkoku Monigatari FTW ^_^

  • @MrLlamaPro It is relatively more difficult to learn. But we have some free and paid resources to help you out. Just google for learn erhu online

  • where can I buy an Erhu??

  • @themario3 Please google Eason Enterprises and you will see our online shop. Thanks!

  • One string? Insane man, looks like a tough instrument. (no sarcasm, I have no idea how someone would start on this.)

  • @EWilsonLife there's two strings, and the bow fits between them. Makes it even harder to play.

  • @TheWorldEditor Yea, my math teacher that is chinese says he always wanted to learn to play one but he says he's too old now because it's the most difficult instrument in the world.I'm not sure about that, but it does seem just as hard as the violin...

  • What is the average price of an er hu? i saw a China orchestra which describe more than 5 types of er hu. I will google for information about Eason Enterprise. thanks for sharing.

  • Erhu is a mongolian traditional instrument from the Gobi desert. Soldiers of Genghis khaan brought in China.

  • It is a good video to introduce erhu~~

    but I just wonder

what is so special for playing Erhu in left hand?

I think the title would make someone misunderstand that someone play erhu in right hand position~~

  • @JoeyMCY I didn't misunderstand it that way. This is the way it's spoken in music. "Left Hand Position" means how you position your left hand. If the title had been "Right Hand Position" it would mean how to position your right hand. In the case of the erhu, "right hand position" would explain how to hold the bow.

  • I want to play like Lei Qiang

  • is it very difficult to learn it, so you have to start very early?

and how long takes it ?

  • i wish i have an erhu

  • I just purchased one on ebay and I absolutely love it, but does anyone know how to tune it? lol

  • @cypress7602 I went on google and searched for an online violin tuner, then just tune off the D and A strings, worked for me :) D for the string closest to you and A for the outter string

  • Thank you. I just bought an Erhu in Zhuhai. The people at the store didn't even know how to play it, and couldn't show me how.

  • good links!! :)

  • whAT is the name of the instruments behind you? is like greek cretan lyra the organ i play

  • Gracias por tan buenas lecciones

  • good stuff

  • Anyone knows where to buy an Erhu in Madrid?, I love its sound and I would like to learn how to play it.

  • a nice effort, but as a novice, I just don't get it! a reduction of the scale you imply would be top dollar!

  • i love the sounds of the erhu so much!!!

  • i would like to know what tuning is the one for a ehru ??

  • D4 and A4.

  • what instruments are in the back?

  • looks like some more types of erhu (on top) and maybe pipa (on bottom)? I'm not really very familiar with these instruments, but that would be my guess.

  • @smartblonde07 top:erhu bottom left:pipa bottom middle:zhong ruan bottom right:da ruan

I think the ruans might be wrong

  • They're more erhus and the mandolin-like intsruments are lutes.

  • i father know play this

    =D

  • i want one of those T_T i love the sound it have

  • Hey just wondering, are the D and A strings of the Erhu inline with eachother where they are played by the fingers, or spaced apart like a violin?

    thanks

  • i fell inlove with this instrument, i really really want to know how much does it cost in phllippine money???!!

  • I can tell you that in Malaysian Ringgit, it costs about 1 to 2,000. Er Hu's are expensive.

But I managed to buy one in Cambodia for $10 (US).

  • heh, i got mine in Xian, China for about 400 yuan.

  • i know nothing about this instrument

but my friend has one and doesnt know how to play it

what do you tune the strings to?

  • D and A.442

  • my father just bought a erhu from EASON enterprises.

  • That's great!

  • i just received mines today and u got me jammin ...good lookin brah

  • I have an erhu, but it doesn't have string wrapped around the neck. Where do i wrap it, and with what material?

  • I just started playing Erhu, thanks for your help! I just ordered some strings off Eason and I am very impressed with the service. What is your opinion on the Morin Khuur? I only got into erhu because I couldn't find anywhere to buy a Morin Khuur online, now I want to go on to play one after I have some erhu experience.

  • you do such a great service to those who are just picking up the instrument and can't find a teacher. Thank Sung Wah and Eason Enterprise!

  • Thank you for responding.

It's a shame that everything good

    is not where I am.

Awesome shop, I will check out your website.

  • I know Lark in the Morning sells Erhus but I don't think thats the shop in the video.

  • the shop in the video is eason i think.

  • What store is that,

and where is it located ?

  • That's my store in Singapore called Eason Enterprises. You can google it for more information.

  • I plan on shopping for an Erhu this month and I would really like to thank you in advance because these videos are going to be sooo helpful in learning how to play. I know a total of 0 people who also play this instrument, and so help will probably be few and far between. Thanks again!

  • Are there any erhu's in America?

  • ya i saw an erhu player in china town l.a. i want to buy one but i can only find it on ebay.

  • how much does an erhu cost?

  • It costs anything between $130 to a few thousand depending on the quality. Just google Erhu online store and you will see our selections of Erhu.

  • You can get an average one in China for about $40-50

  • $40-50 will get you a very poor quality instrument. Even in China. You have no idea how things have changed.

  • what are those circular instruments behind you and next to the pipas

  • They are called Zhongruan. Just google Zhongruan online store and you will see our webpage.

  • Thank you for your video. Just had my first lesson today! Your video helps to practice. Keep posting and good luck to you.

  • Hey i wanna get a zhong hu but do all your videos (holding the bow, playing the instrument etc.) apply to a zhong hu too? Iam guessing they are sence there not too different but i was just wondering. :D

  • Yes the Zhonghu uses the same technique as the Erhu.

  • Thank you for this video! Hope to see you in person one day.

  • very nice any body know of erhu lessons in english?

  • good.. basic.. hi... i am a gradde 4 erhu students.. nide to meet you...

  • i far as i know. liuqin arelike pipa that is deducted 1/4 of original size. maybe there are far form the player. thers no pipa that just like the size of our hands.

  • Those are liuqin, gao yin ruan, xiao ruan and zhong ruan behind.
