  • One of the best Xmas songs written.

  • Unlike many of today's 'artistes' Les & the boys never took themselves too seriously. They took their chance at fame, had a great time & made a few quid along the way. I loathe the dross being churned out by X Factor, Idol, etc.....they take themselves far too seriously before disappearing back into the ether!

  • What a great talent Les Gray was.

  • Guitarist Ray Stiles in now in The Hollies - what a life for him .... what a talent too.

  • mud rocks im 51 yrs old i was 15 when this song was in the charts it was brilliant and we had wizzard slade gary glitter elton john loads and loads of glam we were lucky us oldies bloody lucky to have all that then im not gonna say i wish it wouid all cum back but god du i miss it good times fantastic memories

  • His name was Les Gray (born see wikipedia) and not Gosling so do youre research before you say ti's youre dad.

  • The puppet looks like sir alan sugar!!!

  • @Lanky20 Hah! Don't know why I never noticed that before, well spotted LOL

  • the drummer has also passed away

  • very sentimental and beautiful

Sorry that you lost your Dad , I lost my Mum on dec, 23, 1986 in LA, never healed from that broken heart

    Merry Christmas to you

  • My favorite christmas song xx

  • The guy sitting to les's left is my dad, his name is Les gosling aka les craven and the life if rock and roll has taken it's toll oh him as it has on the rest of the gang!! Much love to mud and everyone who played with my dad, love this track and is a shame that les died as he was a legend :)

  • @Rodeokelz The guy at Les' left is Rob Davis and he is very much alive today!!!

  • @NLMarlene I can confirm this, he's my best friends dad xD

  • Here we go again! We Americans are listening to this song via Buick commercial! It happened last year as well! It is a small world!

  • A proper crimbo song

  • Great song, wonderfully sad!

  • Rip jimmy

  • Sadly i heard Les Grey died of throat cancer

  • The poor little chap with the red face is now deceased, his last words were "I don't want to go in the gox"

  • The ventriloquist dummy doing the voice-over at 2:21 was to show that the performance was mimed and not sung live. Les even chews gum while the dummy is "talking" just to prove there's no way he's providing the voice. I don't know why on TOTP performers had to mime their songs

  • top class!!!.....

  • this is elvis long lost second cousin singing. but the puppet does his own vocals. he escaped from a ufo crash land in new mexico, somehow made it to england & became big /or little/ in the invasion of the beetles & i do mean beEtles!!, he is responsible for locust/a great humming group & queen buzz & the cicaadas disco hit/ watch your step & your drink/ & thier nestle commercial ,do the crunch.

  • Top fuckin class mate.love MUD!

  • When pop music was fun !

  • top

  • Now then Now then!

  • Classic TOTP performance - very funny , and the best ever Christmas no1 (imho) .... I feel very , very sorry for anyone who didn't laugh at the clip.

  • da fuck's up with the puppet?

  • I knew Les very well and he was truly one of the nicest, and funniest, people I've ever met. I worked for the management company (Evolution) and on my 21st birthday, Mud picked me up in the limo and took me to their gig up North. I was feeling ill and miserable until Les rang my door bell. We had a great laugh! Truly a dear friend, and all great guys!! Always gave great, tongue in cheek, performances. Never, ever, took himself seriously. I miss him to this day.

  • I luv the little ventriloquist dummy, makes me laugh everytime LOL XD

  • It's hard not to drink, when I think of this poor little mite, how he gave his all for rock and roll,he was only 52 and naive of the ways of the world,he didn't know the lasting effects that twizzling his head round the wrong way would have on him....rock and roll can be so brutal at times !

  • One of my fave Christmas songs and this TOTP performance was funny as f*ck.Great stuff!

  • My pal Phil "Phibber" Munchausen used to say the little guy in the video was an actor midget called Abe Spoonforth,he liked a drink and had stocked up before the film was shot....thats why his face was red.He suffered neck injuries as a result of Les twizzling his head round the wrong way...he spent the rest of his life on booze and drugs to numb the pain...he died penniless and forgotten.....rock and roll is a brutal taskmaster sometimes.

  • @myepiphone youve started drinking early then.

  • just cannot help falling in with melody >"<

  • Love it and love the whole group!

  • Respect :O

  • What a great Christmas classic eh ! ---I saw Mud play live on a number of ocassions in the 1970' s and also had the pleasure of being in a band that supported them and believe me Les Gray and co were a top notch live band- make no mistake..

  • Gosh,is Les really singing to a dummy ?,my mate Phil "Phibber" Munchausen told me they hired a drunken midget for the show.

  • GLAMMY XMAS EVERYONE!

  • Holy crap! Posthumous US success for Mud? I just heard this song in a US commercial, maybe a car commercial. The song is 36 years old, and two of its members are deceased. Mud never had US chart success in the 1970s. Maybe a posthumous first for them. What is next? "Tiger Feet" in a shaving cream commercial?

  • Insincere, unfunny smug twat with a puppet, doing a piss-poor, cringeworthy attempt at parodying acts who were far out of his league. Shite - and shite that we have to endure every fucking year.

  • @orbitingbeatnik Do you now anything about Les Gray? He was a really nice guy, and an Elvis fan. He wasn't up his own arse enough to think he was in the same league as Elvis, he was just an entertainer who wanted to have fun, which he did right up to the end of his life. Top bloke, so don't be so insulting! If you don't like it, why watch it? Jeeezzz....

  • @SeventiesMania I don't care less whether he was a nice guy or not. I judge musicians based on their performances, not on how many grannies they helped across the street.

  • @orbitingbeatnik piss off you tit and insult someone else

  • @paulhamerton1 If you can't handle opinions on a video, get the fuck off the internet.

  • @orbitingbeatnik Sooo aggressive, sooooo sad.

  • @SeventiesMania Well said! Les was from the town where I grew up. Saw him several times, a genuine nice guy who just loved to have fun in his music.

  • @orbitingbeatnik Clearly nobody loves you ad you were molested as a child

  • @orbitingbeatnik F OFF YOU TWAT

  • To the sad bastard who gave this classic the thumbs down.........FUCK OFF!!!

  • What a truly memorable performance, the late great Les Grey and that dummy- how did Les keep a straight face.

  • Love it!

  • The best Xmas Song of the World.

    Thanks for this Clip.

    *****.

    LG Christian from Germany
