Freak injuries are part of the sport. Vitali K has never finished a fight down on a score card. Lewis is a solid fighter and I'm a fan. But he knew he couldn't keep up with the younger more powerful Klitchos and that's why he retired instead of taking the rematch. If Lewis was great like you pretend, he would have proved himself. Generally the person winning causes the cuts but that does not happen. This was the case in the VK/Lewis fight. And despite the cut, VK was ready to continue. For the record, I just rewatched the end of the fight, you can find it on youtube. Lewis was clearly targeting that eye and that eye was mauled. Even the announcers could see that fight was about to be stopped.
As the announcer said though, Lewis won the fight but VK won the event.
Of course Lewis targeted the eye. Boxers are trained to target cuts. It's a good way to end a fight he may otherwise be losing. And I just rewatched and it wasn't much of a punch at all that VK got cut on. I told you that cuts can be very fluky. Once a cut comes it's almost always going to be a bad gash in 3 or 4 rounds. The announcers also mentioned how out of shape Lewis was even then. I don't think he could come back and compete against guys like Haye. I loved Lewis, but VKs best.

I think that was more due to age than anything. He was long past his prime and when you get older it takes even more work to get into shape.

Lewis had the Klitschko's coming up to push him out, but I see no quality fighters coming up. If Lewis came out of retirement he would immediately be the best HW that isn't a Klitschko.
I don't say that to knock the brothers, I have tons of respect for them. I actually feel bad that they had no one to really build a rep against. It's not their fault.

Generally the person winning causes the cuts but that does not happen. This was the case in the VK/Lewis fight. And despite the cut, VK was ready to continue. But payouts happen in Vegas and the doctor was ready to make a bs call b/c his pocket was lined for that cause. VK was ready to rematch and Lewis retired. VK - Always up on the card.

For the record, I just rewatched the end of the fight, you can find it on youtube. Lewis was clearly targeting that eye and that eye was mauled. Even the announcers could see that fight was about to be stopped.
As the announcer said though, Lewis won the fight but VK won the event.

Of course Lewis targeted the eye. Boxers are trained to target cuts. It's a good way to end a fight he may otherwise be losing. And I just rewatched and it wasn't much of a punch at all that VK got cut on. I told you that cuts can be very fluky. Once a cut comes it's almost always going to be a bad gash in 3 or 4 rounds. The announcers also mentioned how out of shape Lewis was even then. I don't think he could come back and compete against guys like Haye. I loved Lewis, but VKs best.

Lewis was old and he won most his title fights via strategy of winning rounds. He didn't have a great knockout punch against guys. Amazingly his punch looked stronger later in his career. But VK was too tough a guy to take down. Had Lewis been punching like this in previous bouts he'd of had more KO's. But yea you're right he wasn't in shape. I think that was more due to age than anything. He was long past his prime and when you get older it takes even more work to get into shape.

@CoronaJoe I agree 100% with your review of David Haye and his performance but Hamed was far from useless. In fact, in the ring Hamed was a fighter of complete contrast to Haye.

Hamed was as much an overhyped British manufactured "star" as Haye was....he had no skills whatsoever, other than power. He was constantly making mistakes, off balance, goofy even. From his lame entrances to his only fighting mid 30's hasbeens with no pulses, all such a sham.
I dont bet on boxing much, but I literally made thousands when Hamed fought Barrera, his first top opponent with a KO ratio above 55% and an age below 30. I called the fight perfectly, knew MAB would break him down.

@CoronaJoe I don't understand how you can say he kept making mistakes when he was only beaten once. You don't know much if you think that he was off balance and goofy because that was part of his style of boxing to unsettle and confuse his opponents. He was a showman in the ring and out the ring with 4 world championship belts at featherweight, a 'manufactured' boxer with no skill would not achieve that. He lost to Barrera because Barrera was simply a better boxer.

A lot of British boxing fans get overly excited too early, and go way overboard with their confidence and predictions, it's in their nature, like football fans...

that david haye sure did britain proud. behaving like a classless douche bag b4 the fight, falling to the mat or dropping to his knees like he wanted to give klitschko a blowjob after every clinch, complaining to the ref the entire fight, and to top it all off totally copping out with the toe injury after the fight. haye is as pathetic as it gets and his idiot trainer who designed one of the worst fight plans ive seen in ages. it was great to see them both humbled i only wish he was knocked out
