Youre actually very gentle with them. When I was a kid, my brother and I would make cars usually 6 - 8 across (1985 ish, not many cool parts then). We had a massive hall with a smooth surface about 6m long. Both of us would build cars, all the blocks matching and looking nice, and do high speed head on collisions.

I am not kidding when i say once a lego was stuck in the baseboard. Ah, the fun of being young.
