anyone know where I can get my hands on the version they were playing before the album came out? The one that says 'she knows you're better than that' instead?
I don't mind the raw feel of most of their demos, especially the Goodbye Sky Harbor, and there are parts of this that are better, but it just dosn't seem as polished and the way he's singing dosn't have the same ring that it does in the album version which is what kills it for me. And don't pull the line about only liking their perfect versions, most of their live versions are much, much better because there is so much more in them and you can see how they've changed the songs over the years
I don't know what you're hearing but he's not off key. It's definitely rougher than the studio version which is to be expected because they aren't editing the vocals and mixing them in with everything else. Jim is really good live he's still good here.
That's the problem with people today. A lot of people won't listen to anything unless it's great quality and perfect. Only musicians and people who really get music realize that a little rawness here and there is a good thing.
There's an earlier version of this I believe...I don't know if it ever got put into a studio session though. Their concerts right after the turn of the century had the opening of verse 1 as the opening of verse 2 (and maybe 3) and had different lyrics in the middle of the verses. I think it was something like " she says you can...so give it a rest" and various other lines. I was expecting to hear that when I clicked on this. Does anyone have information on that...possibly a studio version?

Wow this version is way cooler. Less production but more feeling and emotion, that's how I like it. And the solo kicks way more ass.

the solo in this is amazing. do you think you could send this to me?
