Have to say, that's my fav Smiths tune. It still kicks like a mule. And Johnny Marr was as cool as a motherf**ker- and still is. Follow the line, they all wanted to be like him. He was the blueprint. Okay fanboy, that's enough out of you. Hahaha
brings me back to days when i would drink energy drinks all day and suck down alcohol and burn weed all night.............just thinking of her.....ps... she never really loved me......
Best Smiths song ever, nay, best song EVER - I was so pleased to hear it in This Is England '88, and when they used the Hatful Of Hollow version, it made my day, because I adore Mike Joyce's drum fills in that version - it makes me bleed with joy and cry it tears of happiness and Morrissey's lyrics; you don't want to know what Morrissey's lyrics make me do...
@thespoon94 u know your music my friend !! not my favorite smiths tune but up there !! girlfriend in a coma my favorite but there you go !! your obviously english because only us got taste !!
@bristolcityifcation LOL, many thankyous xD People need to open their eyes and ears to the gospel of Morrissey and the almighty Smiths, because when genius like this goes un-noticed, I die a little inside because every second of a Smiths song is pure gold and is the only thing that keeps me on this dismal planet! I know, it's serious.
People can complain that This Is England shouldn't be why people are here but who cares? There's young kids out there who are finding the genius of Morrissey and the brilliant guitar work of Johnny Marr
@csjh1 RESPECT !! you knocked the nail right on the head !! i have loved the smiths fron the day !! but lets not knock people who watched great tv getting into great music !! so much better than watching the fucking x factor then getting into the shit on that !!
Wonderful, I was ikk for a spell at tge hight of the Smith, I lost loads of weight and looked a bit like morrissey, and could do no wrong with the ladies because of it,
how good would it to have johnny marr and noel gallagher in the same room just belting out some classics thats what a would love to do if a was a multi millionaire
@orangefudge "the devil will find work for idol hands to do" that's an old saying, he didn't make that up, just so you know. but yeah hes a great poet for sure
Oh yea, I know its an old saying, though looking at my previous comment I can see why you thought I believed it wasn’t , In a very inarticulate way. I just happened to mention he’s a great poet as well liking the saying, I like the fact that he used it to add to his own work., and “I’m so sick and tired” (which of course is his own) just so raw and blunt.. as a lot of his lyrics are,
Sadly, I haven’t had the pleasure of seeing him live yet though, hopefully one day
The Smiths were all about irony. Check out 1:11 on - Morrissey invents the Melbourne shuffle. He'd love that one ;-) ... godfather of the drum and bass dance staple. Saw them twice and both times the girls (and a few boys) stampeded, swooned and screamed throughout, and I'm sure he loved the irony in that too!
If you like The Smiths then you may very well like KOZMIC DREAMERS whose artistic vision and expression, defines them as one of a kind. Buy one of the songs or poems on iTunes.
Morrissey's a great guy! genius in every way and i've always said he wears a shirt well. loved him then and still love him now and i respect his devotion to animals.
I absolutely love the lyrics of this song...Morrissey is just such a brilliant lyricist, and able to write lyrics that aren't too cryptic...but still make you think. This song is amazing
The secret of immortality is to be enigmatic - ask Morrissey. Anyone who didn't buy this record should be strung up by the bollocks, immersed in concentrated sulphuric acid and forced to listen to Gary Barlow's greatest hits Volume 3 until he repents and scours secondhand record shops in seedy Manchester back streets to buy up all The Smiths' albums on vinyl. Just a thought - I've just calculated that Bruce Forsyth has 0.0000000002% as much talent as Johnny Marr.
@purplepelican69 "... until he repents and ..." The accepted term for a randomly chosen humanbeing is "she". Well, that's to say, unless you are sexistic/prejudiced. Have good day
Actually,I think you'll find that to facilitate literary brevity, the male is assumed to embrace the female, but I did specify "bollocks" so in this particular example I was indeed referring to the male species. I don't think I've come across many females with testicles, apart from in Sweden, obviously. Good luck with the guitar lessons - don't give up at this stage.
There is nobody like Morrissey. Went to see him in concert at the Royal Albert Hall years ago and he was really lovely towards the crowd. Not forgetting his lovely quiff and snakey hipped dnace. BRILLIANT!!!
I'm in my 30's and this is the first time I've heard this song! I've loved How Soon is Now for years (for good reason); but, this is fantastic and my fifth time in a row playing it... soon to be sixth and more.
@fuferito You lucky man...I'm in my late 40s and still remember the first moment I heard this song..the first Smiths song I ever heard. I was in the front room and heard this on the TV in the dining room and rushed in thinking- wow..that is something new and very special..hooked on it instantly..it still sounds as fresh and chillingly tingling as it always has!
@Steerpike07 "first Smiths song"? Not a bad initiation, mate. Feels great (re-)discovering these great artists through the internet. Have a great stroll (yet again) down memory lane. I'll replay this song, yet again. What is it... my tenth time now?
@bensimps123 Absolutley agree. This band, and other Mancunian bands, pioneered this sound and the melancholic look ( 20 years ago) that is now rife amongst the ridiculous emo arseholes that think they are original.....utter wankers who should look at this and then get a job.
@MELiddy1 I would expect somebody that happens to know when he started wearing glasses to know why he started wearing those glasses in particular... ah well.
