This song had deserved to do much better! I loved it so much I learned it by heart without even understanding the words (someone gave me the Icelandic lyrics). 22 years later, thanks to the internet, I know what they mean - and I still can sing this song. It's one of my favourites of all times. Greetings from Germany.
the song was sung in a very lacklustre style, perhaps so Haraldsson could express his disdain at being awarded a cactus for winning the Icelandic national final.
Not the best song from us Icelanders, but hell it is better than the 1996, 2006 and 2010 entries of us, in my opinion.
Also, this song was not the worst entry of the ESC'89, and did not deserve going back home without a single point from what I call one of the most boring ESCs ever!
The Icelandic TV decided to let people vote for 6 composers to compete in the national final. All except one made songs. The composer of this song here Valgeir Guðjónsson was put up against wall by the national tv and told that he had to submit a song to the national final. All the other 4 song competing were better than this shit here. My favorite and one the best in history of Söngvakeppni Sjónvarpsins was Sóley with Björgvin Halldórsson(95 entrance for us) and Katla María.
I can't believe how well I still remember this song, even after 20 years. It's a good song, and one of the last really 80's-alike songs from the 80's. ;)
Great knowing that is makes is challenging for non icelandic speaks to say both sounds on the same word ... because even in english they are easily mixed and misspronounced by non english speakers ...
The song is excellent (verse is a bit weak but chorus is great) - if only he didn't give off so many "get me off this stage" vibes it might have done very well!

I can't understand why this song got last place and 0 points, it's actually very good, especially the chorus

How on earth does one pronounce this song title?
GKnight2020 2 years ago
You pronounce it like
"Thath sehm ehnginn syer"
The first letter, Þ, is pronounced like "th" in english "thing"
The third letter, ð, is pronounced like "th" in "them, they, those"

Are you sure this is a real language and not just jibberish? :p lol jk

@GKnight2020
With all due respect, that's sort of a stupid question, isn't it?
Of course it's a real language! There is a whole country full of people speaking it!
