  • Even at 12 years old, you can see the power and the magnificance of Secretariat. You can also see that he enjoyed getting attention.

The best thoroughbred racehorse that ever lived. Period.

  • Beautiful animal and my favorite............I can watch horses for ever

  • Big Red....what a horse!

  • when i was 12 yrs old i was at the kentucky derby and had the honor of meeting this beautiful animal..he was amazing and oh so smart..and a camara ham..i touched this beautiful horse...penny was very nice to me and i was just a little kid of 12 yrs old from indiana..i could only think how it broke her heart when big red died..mine was.

  • I'll bet the 7 dislikes were PETA people who think it's cruel to race horses. They are no fun.

  • The fact that Secretariat ran without the use of drugs makes him truly the Greatest race horse. Hats off to the Irish and English! They run on hay, oats and water.

  • i'd be happy too if God made me THAT perfect!!!

  • Starting at :45 you can really see the muscles in his neck and shoulders. Love this clip! Thank you!

  • This is a real miracle of this World...amazing horse with big heart, real champion which will never be forgotten. He has really got SomethingRoyal!

  • The size of his heart(an amazing 22 pounds) was only surpassed by his spirit and beauty. To anyone that doesnt know, Secretariat may in fact be a "once in a lifetime" horse. A truly spectacular animal. Voted 35th on the list of the top 100 athletes of all time. A horse. The power, beauty, grace, and intelligence of this animal brings me to tears every time I revisit his history and re-watch his tremendous and overwhelming victory at the Belmont. A true legend that will never be matched.

  • I saw Ron Turcott this past week in Waterville, Maine. It was awesome talking to this man. He is very intelligent and shared the moments we wished we could have experienced ourselves with this magnificent animal. I love Secretariat. He is so splendid a creature and I miss him. He will always inspire me to enjoy the precious moments of life. Secretariat will forever live in our hearts.

  • Is it me or at :16 does it kind of sound like he is laughing?

  • @saffiewaffey its a wonder that he didnt talk! :) never mind laugh XD

  • What a beautiful legend!

  • Greatest horse of all time.

  • Thank you so much for this film. Now and always.... Secretariat. That's all that needs to be said. So full of life, so happy to be alive. I wish he was still with us. We could all learn something about life from this dear special creature. I am so glad I saw him run and win. To his immortality. I will always love Secretariat.

  • Its great. He's running and enjoying life like a kid while his competition is sleeping in the stall:)

  • He loves to run, probably misses the track!

  • This horse is still the RECORD HOLDER in the Kentucky Derby 1:59.2/5 and the RECORD HOLDER in the Belmont Stakes 2:24 Flat and WORLD RECORD HOLDER at 1 1/2 miles for the same time 2:24 Flat. It was proven by simultaneous video that he is the RECORD HOLDER in the Preakness Stakes at 1:53.2/5.

  • The beauty and magnificence of this awesome horse. He makes me want to be the best I can be as a human being. This is a spirit of greatness.... and he continues to share it with us all. There simply are no words for the awe and inspiration of this magnificent animal. RIP forever in our hearts.

  • What I love about this horse is he loved to run and he knew he could and stretched every inch to run and pushed to run faster and faster every run he was a real athlete would have loved to see them turn him loose on a track with no rider instead of in a padock I bet he would have ran hard and fast like as if he was in a real race Im sorry I just really love this great horse !

  • Thanks for sharing this. He was one of a kind, and we will not see his likes again. He was more than magnificent. I love him so much. I feel fortunate to have been alive when he was and to have witnessed his PERFECTION!

  • Thought about him a lot today while watching the Belmont Stakes. There will NEVER be another like him.

  • My first horse who sadly past away in 05, presence felt, secreteriat was his great uncle :) I was so proud to have such a handsome and well bred horse :)

  • The only bad thing I can say about this video is,,,,I wish it could last forever! I could watch this magnificent creature run and play all day long. He is perfection in every way. TY so much for your videos. Keep them coming cause I will be watching them all. :)

  • @raynewolfe43 I couldn't agree more. Thanks for the compliments. Glad you're enjoying the videos.

  • Is that Secratraiat? The real one?!!

  • @horsechica1211 Yes, it sure is.

  • @cf1970 Oh My, he is a gorgeous thing! I like his little jump start thing then he sprints off!:) Great video!:)

  • wow my mare has almosth his exact markings! they are jusst a tad longer! (he is her great grandpa btw)

  • I love his break! Just adore that moment! He was such a freaking monster, even in retirement, blazing about like hellfire!

  • I love his break! Just adore that moment! He was such a freaking monster even in retirement, blazing about like hellfire!

  • He looks so fat haha! ha I love secretariat!

  • Thanks for this video. After watching the movie, my kids were happy to see footage of the real horse. He's soo beautiful!!

  • weeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeee!

  • How can anyone give a "dislike" to this horse?! You may not like horseracing but you are looking at the greatest!

  • @funshipM174 6 people missed Secretariat's post times. Lol

  • @cf1970 make that 7 people now.

  • Posting most appreciated. Secretariat - 12 years old, still showing his championship style. Running for the love of running. Maybe that's why he won so much? RIP Big Red. We will never forget you! Best Wishes To ALL.

  • Love this - especially the scene showing his reluctance to let go of the grass (and accompanying flower) that was clamped his mouth during his gallop around the pen. I had a TB, and I used to spend hours in the pasture playing with him like this. He was the real thing. Thanks for sharing!

  • WOW what an amazing horse! thanks for sharing...... :)

  • when i was about 6 or 7 (im 14 now) we got a horse named Tango his racing name was Schnapps Turn and we won 4 races when he was 3 and then he retired and everyone forgot about him. I have no idea how but he ended up at a lesson barn. And he is cousins with Secretariat... and guess what he died of his coffin bone like disintegrating...i think that the dieing of hoof problems runs in there family...(there cousins bcuz Bold Ruler is Secretariats sire and Bold Ruler is Tangos great x5 grandfather :)

  • Thank you for this video. You have the best and most respectful videos. I always turn to you first for accurate and intelligent treatment of racing. The TB does well with you. I am grateful for your services on You Tube and elsewhere.

  • @gcpropertymanagement Thank you. I very much appreciate the kind words of support. I've tried to keep things respectable here, but trust me, it used to be a real challenge before YouTube offered the option of screening comments. I'm happy to help you in any way, and am grateful for your interest in my channel.

    Have a good week.

  • Such an amazing and beautiful horse!

  • He was a gift from God.

  • GOD BLESSED MRS TWEEDY, SHE COULD HAVE SOLD HIM FOR LIKE 8 MIL, WHICH IS PROBALY 30 MIL TODAYS DOLLARS, SHE MUST BE A VERY GREAT LADY TO HAVE BEEN BLESSED WITH THE BEST RACE EVER. ALSO LOVED THE VIDEO, BLESS RON FOR GETTING TO RIDE THE BEST HORSE EVER THE TEARS STILL FALL FOR BIG RED WHEN HE WAS THE LIKE A TREMENDOUS MACHINE, HE STILL LOOKS GREAT RIP BIG RED NEVER WILL FORGET YOU..............................................

  • Happy Birthday Big Red. I Miss You :(

  • 4 people were smiling so big that they went to hit the like button but missed and went from this :)))))))))))) to this :((((((((((

  • It kills me to think of him at the end with the laminitus, hurting and not being able to do what he loved, run. Rest easy Big Red .

  • This is such a sweet video. I tend to come and watch it whenever I'm feeling down. To see Secretariat dashing thru his paddock is sheer joy. Love the part near the end where he has wildflowers dangling from his mouth. Thanks for posting this :-)

  • Thanks for sharing.

  • So beautyful :')

  • What a wonderful find. Where on earth did you get this? Thanks so much for sharing all of your wonderful videos. I just realized he is running with a dandelion in his teeth, how adorable. He would have made one hell of an event horse.

  • its so sad to think that 7 years after this he died. Such a young and great stallion (i know 19 isnt to young for a horse but they normally live to be around 25-30)

  • He is showing off! He knows/knew he was the MAN!!

  • The PERFECT Horse. We will NEVER see another im my lifetime.....

  • lovely video he was so vibrant and beautiful, thank you for posting. I remember seeing him run the triple crown,I was 15 and just in love with that big red horse. Have an original painting still in our home. The movie brought back great memories. RIP Big Red, you are the best!

  • Even at 12 he ran like a champion!!! I love watching this video. Thoroughbreds were born to RUN!!!

  • LOVE LOVE LOVE this......cannot get enough....what a chest....could you just imagine riding him.....LORDY....

  • @shellpen10 Turcotte said it was like steering a jet plane.

  • CF,

Had to come back and get my Sec Fix....I LOVE LOVE LOVE this video...I still would have paid to get on his back for that take off.....Miss talking with you...

    M

  • i am mostly a football and basketball fan but i am also a huge big red fan...what he did in belmont was beyond belief and the "superhorse" lifted the countrys spirits during a very depressing time...we all love you secretariat and hope God will permit us to see you run in Heaven too

  • I met Secretariat 3 times, wish I had a film like this, I do some movie film, but he was

never running when I was there. I have a horseshoe and a piece of his mane for

my good luck, I think the guy in the movie gave them to me. What a great video!

  • I love how he breaks...like he's coming out of the gate at Belmont...R.I.P. pretty boy

  • Immortal horse. He'll be remembered for all time.

  • Brings me to tears. RIP, beautiful one. I wish you and Zenyatta could have been a pair.

  • I love this! He looks so happy. : ) Is it ok if I use these clips in a video?

  • @Horsegrl4820 Sure, go right ahead. All I ask is that you list me as a source so people can see have a look at the original post.

    Have fun with your video!

  • @cf1970 Thank you! : ) And I will list you!

  • @cf1970 Actually, is it ok if I use your racing clips on him too if I give you credit for them? Like his Triple Crown races and others?

  • @Horsegrl4820 Go right ahead. Thanks for the support.

  • @cf1970 Thank you and you're welcome. : )

  • Four people clicked the dislike on this video. That just kills me. If you don't like Secretariat, fine but to dislike this video ? Takes all kinds to make a world I guess !

  • This is beautiful. He was truly magnificent. never be another one like him :)

  • I just watched the movie and wanted to see more of him! Thank you! I met Secretariat in 1984.It was a highlight of my life.I have a lock of his hair! He was magnificent!!

  • This one is good video of him! =D

  • Secretariat will always be the best race horse that ever lived i watched the movie it was amazing and i watched the real race it very unbelievable that it could have happened and i hope he will never be beaten by any other horse in racing i love him i wish i could have seen the race in person and could have met him too :)

  • My horse is secretariat's granddoughter, i am so proud!!

  • He's moving like a tremendous machine :) Wow, words I will never forget!! Secretariat WILL ALWAYS be the # 1 Horse, FOREVER !!

  • @MyBigRed94 My horse is secretariat's granddoughter, i am so proud!!

  • What a wonderful tube! Thanks so much for posting it. I've watched it numerous times already and love towards the end where he's running with some wildflowers in his mouth :-) You could tell just how happy he was to be alive and running.

  • Breathtakingly beautiful! Great job with this.

  • One thing I'm seeing in this video is the tremendous power in his hind legs. Also the timing of the hind legs versus the front legs was perfect. Anyway, just my amateur observations!!! :) And those massive muscles. It's hard to believe he's 12!!! Thanks again. Did you film this yourself?

  • Thank you .... amazing footage. One of my greatest regrets in life is that I didn't travel from Ohio (where I lived) the short distance to Kentucky to see Secretariat in the '80s. My Dad would have loved to go, as well. I never knew Secretariat was there, but that's really no excuse. I never looked into it. I blew it! But your video helps make up for that! Now my Dad's in heaven, hopefully riding Big Red himself! :)

  • what an amazing piece of footage............ thankyou....... stunning beauty to look at... wow thats all i can say..... wow

  • I was one of the honored ones that got to see him make history at the Downs when he won the Derby. I don't think we even realized at the time what we had seen. Then I also got to see him several times while he was standing at stud. He would run around his paddock, throwing his head and snorting, then come back and stand in front of you as if to say, "look at me"! He was a beautiful horse. Thank you so much for this wonderful video. It's amazing!

  • He's so pretty

  • He's so perty!

  • Beautiful

  • watch him at :53, he's close to parallel with the ground... in The Horse That God Built by Lawrence Scanlan (book is renamed) someone said that he cld get very close to ground as he wld fall over, but he had such control, such muscular strength it was amazing.

  • THE MAN HOLDING HIM AT THE BEGINNING OF THE VIDEO IS THE LUCKIEST MAN ALIVE!! To see Sectretariat take off like that in front of you face!

  • Thank you for placing this for us to see. I loved watching Secretariat run, in 1973, and it surely is good to see him run again. He gave us a lift, still does.

    I enjoyed the music choice.

  • I love this clip.I wonder how the Secretariat movie is doing?I saw it and enjoyed it but I feel the movie is 38 years too late.I guess the Seabiscuit movie was a better script.I hope to see the barn where Big Red was born. Its near Richmond,Va.so the next time I am in that area,I want to see it ( across the road from the new VA state fairgrounds).

  • This video is one of the best eulogizing Big Red. It captures his exuberance, his pride and his pleasure in movement that no still picture could do. I replay his videos often and every time my eyes prickle with tears. Secretariat -- in conformation, style, movement and immense joy of living is perfection . Its true even, as here, when he is past his racing prime. The Secretariat movie failed in my eyes because those docile stand ins could not convey the power and presence of the original.

  • @Tylergmom love your comments... what we need is a PBS American Experience or Ken Burns doing Secretariat justice in the exquisite way he does his documentaries. I've e-mailed American Experience and pleaded. Who knows, maybe we'll be pleasantly surprised ! I sure hope so.

  • I love this video and have watched it many times. His powerful presence really comes through, especially in the close-up scenes of him charging around. I also love the scene where he's running with a piece of clover hanging from his mouth. He could be comical at times, too. What a personality. There just aren't words to describe him, really.

  • i was watching this documentary on youtube about this legend. and somebody said 'on belmont day i believed in pegasus because i saw him'.

    my god he looks magnificent.

  • he changes leads at least 3 times in the last part of the video..... eye on the camera every minute.... what a great big showoff !! :) :)

  • Secretariat: Earth and Heaven combined--The greatest athlete of all time. If he stole a piece of your heart, look up to the sky on a dark velvet night--you might catch a glimpse of him as he races by. Once in ten thousand years, a piece of Heaven slips through the cracks and overwhelms us with beauty and greatness here on Earth. Secretariat--Can you slip through the crack one more time? We miss you.

  • What a magnificent animal.

  • Beautiful. What a ham!

  • Beautiful! I wished the director had used this footage and some of the infamous Belmont of '73 at end of the movie, during the credits. The audience sat at the end...seemed we were all wanting to see a piece of the 'real' legend, Big Red.

  • He is my horses grandad!

  • Amazing footage, wow. I have pics with big red at Claiborne Farm when i was a teenager in '84.

  • wow.

  • No doubt he was thinking, "If I were at the track, I'd STILL smoke ém!

  • @texjoyrn1 I was thinking the same thing....and you know what? I bet he could have. What a horse.

  • @texjoyrn1 No doubt he still could kick their rears at 12. He is 'Totally' unbelievable.

  • thank you:)

  • This is 100 percent, total testosterone. Totally love this video. Love stallions. Love Secretariat!

  • This footage of Secretariat. should of been used at the end of the movie, during the credits to honor Big Red.

  • @LilyBme you are SO right - they had 4 horses attempt to portray Sec in the Movei - but there is ONLY 1 Secretariat!

  • Awesome horse! There will never be another like him.

The new movie about him is good. Went with friends and we remember his triple crown campaign. It's good to hear him thunder across the track again.Loved him then and love him still. Go Big Red!

  • Thank you for posting this--I can't watch it enough. And I appreciate your great job of monitoring comments--I am so uncomfortable with some of the posts on other sites. I saw the movie "Secretariat" last week and will never forget the magic of the Secretariat Tripple Crown sweet--my first year of following the event. I fell in love with this magnificent horse and was at the KY Horse Park the day his statue was unveiled. Was able to see Turcott and Chennery and others. Amazing.

  • @kentuckydeb55 I appreciate your kind words, and will continue to monitor comments. I agree with you; many other channels allows things that should not be posted for anyone to have to see. The often vulgar language and petty fighting is plain silly, and really detracts from the YouTube horse racing experience, IMHO.

I haven't had a chance to see the movie yet, but have heard mixed reviews. It'd be great to see the Meadow team in person; I'm envious. :)

    Happy you enjoyed the video.

  • @kentuckydeb55 that is so cool! I dont like when people say this magnificient animal is put down. He is sooo beautiful!

  • @kentuckydeb55 Years ago I lived in Bourbon County and had the priveldge, no honor of seeing Secratariat in person face to face. A once in a lifetime experience. Most magnificant animal I have ever seen. It's hard to watch these videos without crying.

  • Beautiful, thank you

  • This was wonderful! Thanks for sharing!

  • who could not love a horse,,after all they put up with us,,,i know i know, he is not just a horse, he is THE HORSE

  • Still chewing up the ground at age 12 just for the sheer joy of running! Secretariat is my favorite horse of all time and I thank you for sharing this.

  • Beautiful, what a magnificent beast! I fell in love with horses when I was a toddler. Secretariat surpassed my wildest imaginings!

  • I just LOVE horses!! My mom owned one when she was little but i've lived in the city my whole life but horses have and will always be my favorite animals!!!I think they have as much soul as like three of any other animal. I used to love visiting my g-ma on the farm but the time i was born she had either sold them or they had died of old age.

  • I understand him very well, because I like to dance. This horse radiates very powerful emotion, delight of movements, true passion;

as though ....tells: "What a marvellous thing: to gallop!!!".

  • wow, raw footage of the old man!

  • I love how he's just snacking away as he runs! What a character he was!

  • Absolutely magnificent! He just wanted to remind everybody , "Baby, I've still got it". I sure do miss ya big guy....

  • RIP Big Red. 21 yrs ago today you left us and the world will never see another one like you again!!

  • He looks like he coulda still run at that age... Just imagine how much damage he would of done at 4...

  • He looks so happy. He looks so formidable charging at the fence.

He is the greatest horse that ever lived!

  • magnificent!

  • So happy to see this footage of Big Red romping in his paddock. Simply fabulous! I've been to Claiborne many times, and got to stand in his stall (shortly after Unbridled passed away in 2002). Been told he knew he was a star, and particularly liked children. If you visit the Lex area and only have time to see one horse farm, I recommend Claiborne, hands down. The grooms do the tours and know their stuff. Book in advance and bring a rose for Secretariat's grave if you like.

  • @AzeriZ1 I totally agree with this post. Claiborne is an amazing place and wonderful to visit. I have been often during the 70's and 80's and it is something that is well worth the time.

  • what a beauty ! poetry in motion

  • This video says it all....thank you so much - it brought tears to my eyes - seeing his joy and personality come through!

  • You'll never find a more beautiful or powerful 12-year-old horse, no matter how hard you look!

  • He is like "Yes I am FREEEEEEE!!!!!!!!!!!!!!"

  • look at him go!

  • Fantastic video there cf1970!!!!!

I thought oh my god at 0:23 hes gonna hit the tree!! This is the stuff champions are made of!! Good job he let him off the lead rope or he would of gone for a flying lesson!

    FAVOURITED!!!

  • I bet he was imagining he was on the track again. lol. Big Red is in my heart forever.

  • does anyone know what the name of the song used in this video? It sounds like Mozart.

  • @will0637 It could very well be Mozart. I've heard the melody many times before, but I just can't place it.

Yes, is there anyone out there who can identify this music?

  • @cf1970 posthorn serenade

  • @linceed87 Thank you very much.

  • i love how excited he is when they unclip his halter! =]

  • @alwaysinthesaddle Yeah, good thing he got it unclipped or he would be flapping in the breeze....lol

  • I have this video of Secretariat saved on My Favorites, because I just can't get enough of watching my FAVORITE Horse of all time. I was only 15 years old in 1973, but I remember watching Secretariat like it was just yesterday. LONG LIVE SECRETARIAT :) Thanks for this AWESOME video !!

  • I find it funny that no one bashes Big Red on here....You see it all the time. No matter how good the video is... there is always a few people who leave hurtful comments...Big Red was just that good!!!!

  • @PlaYah1979 Oh, trust me, there has been PLENTY of Big Red bashing here, I just don't allow it. It's just one of the reasons I choose not to allow automatic comment posting anymore. That, along with spam, profanity, crude comments, etc. I'm sick of that garbage tarnishing the enjoyment of these videos, so I deep-sixed auto posting. But you're still right though, Secretariat was, and is that good!

    Take care.

  • I think it's hilarious the way the announcer says the word "stallions".

  • secretariat was a great horse. i have his grandson, his name is Ernie, aka conflict of interest. he used to be a great dressage horse but is now shown in hunter shows. hes a beautiful mover just like his grandfather. they have the same left shoulder and the same color. the only difference between them is ernie has a blaze and 4 white stockings. Hes beutiful and i love him. <3

  • @bubblgumchic97 lucky you to have a grandson... could you put pictures on your YTube page to look at?

  • this is amazing!

  • Love Love Love this video....the Belmont is coming up this weekend....there are many sons of AP Indy...many chances for a great grandson of this big boy's to end up in the winners circle...

  • Secretariat was pure perfection. I have never seen a more perfect and gorgeous specimen of a horse. He was glorious!

  • Who says racehorses are in their prime as a 3 year old? Secretariat here could have won the Triple Crown all over again if they let him :) I never get tired of watching his races!

  • how can anybody NOT love this animal? it is a real beauty

  • most beautiful horse ever. not even kidding. i've never seen a horse this beautiful

  • He wasn't just a horse, he was a living work of art...

    RIP, Big Red

  • Incredible video. As a 12 year old, he still looks just as beautiful, strong, and energetic as he was at 3. You can see how much he truly loved to run - what a horse!

  • That horse was in heaven while running. He just loved it!

  • what a magnificent horse he was..thank you for sharing this it was wonderful to watch...

  • I'm glad I was alive and remember Secretariat in his prime.

  • What a beautiful thing he is, how immaculate, thank you so much for posting this, I love watching it.

  • I loved it !!

  • Thank you for giving us a chance to see a 12 year legend doing what he did better than all ...This was truly enjoyable to watch.. He loved to run didn't he?

  • Ha ha...like an ant to the picnic. Here I am again. :D

  • God Gracious! I have never seen a horse that hyped up to be in his pasture :)

Man, he was something so special : )

  • @BLiSSFULxFiLLY he knew the cameras were on him, and he loved to show everybody how magnificent he was, beauty and devilish combined.

  • HAPPY 40TH BIRTHDAY BIG RED!

  • What a fantastic video! I read that he enjoyed racing another horse in the field next to him. He was indeed "the horse that God built".

  • What a wonderful vid! I had read that "Big Red" loved to play and run around; so much so that there was concern early on that he might not develop into a true racer because he goofed off too much! Hah! The upcoming movie will hopefully bring the majesty and magic of the greatest t-bred ever to a whole new generation. I love and miss you, Secretariat.

  • Adorable how he stands there perfectly until the moment his handler unclips the chain, and then he zooms off.

It's so refreshing to see a video of him not on the track. It baffles my mind when watching videos like this that people say racehorses are forced to run. Secretariat looked like he was having the time of his life.

  • This will ALWAYS be my favorite video! Secretariat was so handsome and FAST :) I know he is galloping in Heaven with the angels cheering him on!

Lord knows how I miss him:(

  • I am in love!
