As little as possible of course.

Just kidding. They speed up the research rate when they are put in your own educational establishment. They have characteristics so that some speed up industrial research and some agricultural research. Some are good at stealing research when they are in another nation's school or uni. They are also good at killing people (duel) and they remove the fog of war from a map. Pretty handy really and the ladies seem to like them too!

@laxAddict992 Gentleman can perform attacks on enemy lords or whatever theyr called they can assasinate to i think but mainly they DUEL with enemies.
