I had a question about your comment that you shouldn't leave those little chunks of wire on your soil because they can leach aluminum or copper oxide into the soil. Then what about the tie down wire we use to secure the tree in its pot? Wouldn't that do the same thing? (this is an honest question, I'm not trying to be a smart ass)
@DJotterfield Aluminum wire is coated and so no bare aluminum will come into contact with the soil. Once the tree is well rooted the wire can be removed. Copper wire should NOT be used for securing trees into pots it oxidized very quickly in constantly damp soil.
@GrahamWPotter Great, thanks! Now that I think about it, I guess I have only used aluminum for tie down wire. But I have used little scraps of copper for keeping the drainage screens in place at the bottom of a pot. I guess I'll have to quit doing that.
Graham, ive just started my first bonsai, at the moment its literally looks like a branch off a tree, with lots of new shoots growing, how do i thicken these shoots up without alowing my bonsai to become very large, cheers
Where can I buy the same brand cutters you show at 5:35?
