@DeMobBoss I agree with you as the EZ30 was available in the Legacy and Outback throughout the world. However if you see such a thing in the States it is because initially this engine was only available in the Outback, and no manual either. The outback handles well for being very high off the ground but isn't sporty enough out of the box for most that do the swap. There are also the cost reasons of importing one with their exact specification/not being able to get it period.
Never understood idioits wasting their money and time on trying to put EZ engines into legacys that came with a 4pot motor in the first place. Why not buy one with a native EZ engine in the first place!? BUT to see this done to an Impreza!!!! A stirling effort! Well done. Would love to see the finnishd product in a video when you get the chance.
great job!!! i have a 2000 impreza obs, and was wondering if this was possible, did you use the ez30r because it's shorter than the eg33? also, what did you use for a trans, because as far as I know, all ez30r's came as automatics.
@DirQ89 The EZ30R was picked over the EG33 as the EG33 is a simple engine, one exhaust port per head, variable nothing. My background is in IT, and you know how much we like our gadgets, the EZ30R may have a smaller displacement but produces a lot more performance.
All EG33s came as automatics, however EZ30Rs were available attached to both manual and auto gearboxes, this car is equipped with a standard TY752VBAAA 4.111-ratio manual gearbox.
@WiretapNZ I think you are confusing the EG33 with the EZ30D. EG has one exhaust port per cylinder, not head. By producing a lot more performance, out of the box the R is only making 20 more HP and around 10 LESS ftlbs torque over the EG. Thats not to say the R isnt more capable, but just saying.
@DirQ89 Unfortunately, however, if you have to ask if this is possible, its probably a bit beyond your limits, this project took 3 years, cost me NZ$5k in parts alone, and involved a lot of head-scratching and looking up of factory service manuals to match wiring up.
Certainly its possible on your car (as the EZ30R is a standard-fitment engine, will bolt right in and connect to your gearbox and engine mounts perfectly) however, many have started and never finished due to the complexity of it.
@WiretapNZ Hey, thanks for the quick reply, since my car is my only means of transport these days it is beyond my limits at this point, but give me 3 years and NZ$5k and I am quite sure my abilities are up to par. thanks again for the vid, and keep on tinkering!
nice legacy turbo in the back ground do a video on that. you should talk and let us know how you did the swap and why you picked that motor to swap into you rs P.S cool swap. props for buld not bought
@320jer I'm not much of a talker, hate the sound of my own voice on video. The legacy turbo is a 1990 Legacy GT, however it is currently out of service after I got t-boned by a distracted driver, hopefully that will change if this weekend goes to plan!

I'd swap an EG33, EZ30 or EZ36 into a 2nd gen Legacy wagon, with a 6 speed STi transmission.

"the idle configuration is all wrong" do you have an air mass flow sensor ? it could be the couse , just wondering
amigos1996 10 months ago
@amigos1996 Nope, Link Xtremes don't use a MAF. It was simply that the idle gains were still set to their default values and hadn't been tuned.

@WiretapNZ but u have fixed it right .

@DirQ89 Not all were autos, the spec B's have the 6 speed manual from the STi.
