This update is mainly for PS3 slim people. These updates were so small which are not needed on the PS3. Welcoming the users making it easier to navagate.

u can listen to music while playing games but only on certain ones like marvel vs capcom 2 , killzone 2, mk vs dc etc

in-game music is patented by microsoft, the only way you can listen to music in game is if the game devs implement the feature, Sony cannot do anything.
