There is a very 80's reggae vibe going on in this song! And as a Jamaican born and raised, I have to say. "Big Up, RUSH!" Another +1 added to why these guys were and still are amazing. Rock and Roll Hall of Fame better recognize soon!
Unstable condition, A symptom of life, Of mental and environmental change. Atmosphereic disturbance, The feverish flux Of human interface and interchange. The impulse is pure; Sometimes our circuits get shorted By external interference. Signals get crossed And the balance distorted By internal incoherence.
I lovee diss Song by dem <3. Me && my Daddy see's them in concert !. AMAZING :D !. I been to 2 shows and ITS SO AMAZING . I dont really listen to dem but Im getten back into dem :D ! I LOVE RUSH !!.
@CircusEnvy23 A microphone. They used it to get a kind of "Drummers Perspective" on the overall drum sound, wheter it worked or not is debatable, but the drums on Moving Pictures sure sound awesome, don't they?
Anybody know what the object taped to Neil's chest is for? Had a buddy back in the day claim it's some kind of "human clock" device. Always wanted to know.
Thank you seriously...that's amazing. Who would have thunk it! The drums do sound incredible on Moving Pictures. Wonder if this had anything to do with it.
@daveywaikiki .......who's Pratt?? And, it's the video they did for the track they put on MTV...that's why it can look out of sync, let alone it was done in 1981 !
The dissonance of life in so many forms. Rush rises above the discourse and keeps the conversation moving forward. Their musical and lyrical expressions can be matched by few.
one of my favorite parts from seeing this live was hearing the beginning. I never liked it so much until it was dark and all I heard was that intro blasting. It was awesome
@21380 Yeah, your right. Some very famous classical music pieces are always put in cartoons and movies and when you hear them, it's not that big of a deal. People appreciate them less. Fur elise is one example. On another note, MTV is crap. People really need to stop with this hip hop stuff. Can you believe there was a time only about 30 years ago when there was no such thing as rap.
@1dgkonig well, i like rap and hip-hop, but only the vary early stuff, but youre right, mtv today sucks! plus rap these days is just compleatly sexed up! nothing but sex! Sexed up music has runied this earth, but atleast we still got bands like Rush, Yes, ELP (well, EL, atleast, scence Carl is playing with Asia), Genesis, and Asia!
i love this tune and video.....i hope they will release all the videos on dvd soon....i met Geddy @ spring training in Tampa a bunch of years back....i got a pic with him....he was cool ...peace...

GREAT show in St. Louis 8/22! ...Yeah, the Crown Plate Mic on Neil's shirt, I had read about it in Musician magazine but didn't know if it was actually used on the final track.
To answer your question mapquest68. Paul Northfield was behind the sound board recording. He wanted a fater sound from the snare drum. Brave he asked Neil to tune down his snare. Neil told him, yeah, he told him '' It sounds fine right here !!'' pointing to himself. So that thing is a MIC ! They did not used it but it ended up being a joke in the video.
I have been wondering for almost 30 years what that thing is on Neil's chest in this video. This brings back so many memories. I had been listening to them for a year or two but didn't know what they looked like. I saw this video on MTV in early 1982 in a Hastings books and music store in College Station Texas and it brought me to a standstill. I was frozen in place and couldn't move until it was over. I had a grin that wouldn't stop because FINALLY I saw Neil's drum kit. Thank you for posting!!
