  • i always had a question in mind, how much horsepower gain can be seen on the dyno when removing the fan belt? typical numbers i mean

  • what is that big round thing for on a bug engine??? never known.

  • @ttolmbrftttwtbopat Do you mean the fan shroud?

  • when you race the 1/4 mile, can you take off the fan belt for more power? or will it get too hot in this time?

  • @JeremyPetho Yes, you can. Most guys do.

  • those are called hand grenade motors. they like to come apart at the case seam under load.

  • is this an original vw bug engine?

  • anybody know the specs on this engine?

  • 2332 cc ? ?

  • what did you do to it???

  • " you port valves by grindning out the journals"?........ you what?

  • Can you guys come over and put that in my car. I live at............

  • could do with one of those on my push bike !

  • mik22,The more you type, the dumber you sound ! Quad Webers ? Advanced cams ? PORTED VALVES ??? How the fuck do you port a valve ??? Anibal Chico is a very respected VW engine builder and if he says it makes 211 hp, YOU CAN BET YOUR ASS IT MAKES 211HP !!! And this is an aircooled VW engine, not a waterpumper out of your Mama's Jetta. Yeah, I bet you did get 165 hp on paper, because that is the only place you have ever built a VW engine !

  • @MrGonzoTx why is he dumb? you advance your camshafts because in the 70's and 80s they retarded the timing. moving the timing up 10 degree's (on chevys anyways) can make a huge difference. and you port valves by grindning out the journals. which is called porting the valves. then polish it to help air move through it easier. to a skilled michanic 211 hp is easy to aquire once you get into porting, flat top pistons, 12.1 compression or +. mapped balanced and blue printed.. etc.

    just my say tho

  • holy shit

  • listen to the notoious flat spot...geez.

  • sounds great

  • lovely

  • WOW yea the carbs, really, all words. So what, means nothing without tests and graphs. I rebuilt VW's before with quad webbers, ported valves, larger pistons, advanced cams, most I got was 165Hp on paper. Good luck,,

  • @mik22pik Then you suck at building engines. My daily driver 2276cc is right around 160 at the wheels. Quad Webers? Ported valves? I'm guessing the 165 on paper is what you wrote while trying to figure out why your engine is not running. Maybe you meant to say ported heads, 3 angle valve job and dual 2 barrel Webers (two carbs, not 4). Chico, who posted this video, is probably one of the best in the business and can get 200 easily.

  • 2000cc???

  • this motor will promise you a wheelie

  • Looks like a Vw engine, can't tell if it gives 211 Hp.

Where are the gages to prove it?

  • @mik22pik Do you really need gauges to prove it... look at the fucking carbs!

  • cc¿¿¿

    crank??

    cam???

    piston heads ¿¿

    thanks for the info

  • can`t you put up a list of what I need to do to get a engine like this:)

  • @volvokonge Yeah google Chico Racing or CPR or Anibal Chico and get your credit card number ready.Building an aircooled VW engine is not hard if you are careful and take your time and have a good book to follow. To build a 200+ hp VW that will live more than a few minutes takes years of experience and a knowledge of what parts to use. Chico is one of the best !

  • what is the bore/strok? what cam lift/duration is used? what size carbs are those?

  • @classicvox sorry just noticed those are EFI TBs.

  • Damn-Music to my ears!!! OOWEE!. What's the cc on this thing of beauty?

  • is that a 110 mm bore cuz thats crazy so is that the same power as a 400 hp motor in a 4000lb car

  • that will not run 11.9 in a full body bug

  • what heads, what cam?

  • What bore pistons are you using? And are you using High Performance street heads or racing?

  • Sir can I have that for my street bug. it looks gorgeous

  • its kinda cool must of put some work into that but prefer my t-series rover unit bit more down to earth

  • Where do you get the parts to tune up a beetle engine like that?

  • HELL of an engine, good job! :)

  • i want that motor.

  • Hey i'm looking into building a 2.0 set up like you have. Would you mind listing the specs of the engine you have, I want to do the same set up. I have a 73 standard. W/ old timer paper work. It currently has the original 1200 cc in it and i want to beef it up. Thanks

  • I gotta have it LOL Be nice in my baja bug

  • ive read somewhere a T1 tranny had around a 14% power loss, at 15% power loss, its putting 180 hp to the ground.

150 hp would be 28% power loss, and you would have a very hot transaxle.

off course, a T1 trans is only good for 120hp on road, so he would probably be running somthing like a 009 bus trans

  • what cam?

  • Im amazed at looking through these comments how many professional beetle tuners and customizers their are.

Im sure all of them have driving licenses and are not 16 your old kids.

  • @GazHasJazzHands its "16 year old kids" buddy : ) shows how mature you are

  • @danelio Sorry I don't quite understand your comment.

  • @GazHasJazzHands as in you put "and are not 16 YOUR old kids" instead of "and are not 16 YEAR old kids" whats not to get :S

  • @NewRomantic4 Ahhh shit sorry dude mistype haha

  • @GazHasJazzHands look at your previous comment . tryin to talk shit on some kids like you're old and you cant even spell YEAR. its year not your you fucktard

  • @danelio It was a miss type you fucking tool. Some of us have life's that don't involve nothing but sitting behind a computer talking bollocks, So common mistakes are made. Now go play with your hot wheels cars.

  • @GazHasJazzHands ok jizz hands

  • @danelio Your saying I can't spell when you can't even read.

  • @GazHasJazzHands its "you're saying" not "your". i can read and spell great. i was making fun of you if you cant figure it out JIZZ HANDS. do you know what jizz is you lame fuckhole cocksucker. you got jizz hands cuz you wack off too much to lame vids.

  • @danelio Ohh well its better then having it up my ass like you :D

    Good day little child

  • @GazHasJazzHands yea took you a bit to get it huh. a lil slow. its alright. when you're my age maybe you will get jokes.

  • @danelio No i figured it out when you first said it and sorry mate but i passed the age of 12 years ago.

  • @GazHasJazzHands Amen Gaz ! They have no idea what it takes to make an aircooled VW run like that.

  • @GazHasJazzHands I'm 14 and plan on beefing up my Old bug, I love that old car

  • @GazHasJazzHands age doesn't matter... dumbass.

  • @GazHasJazzHands I am a 16 year old kid, but i love tuned classic Beetles! They're just awesome. Such an innocent car, with so much power.

  • I remember my grandpa made 433 to the ground on his. he would always turn wrenches on that thing!!!

  • @sunofsam44 Let me see,how can I put this....BULLSHIT !!! I've been building and driving VW for over 30 years, and you can build 400hp turbo aircooled VW,but I can count the number of 400+ hp VW engines in America on one hand ! So unless your grandpa's last name is Berg, I'll have to say it again... BULLSHIT !!!

  • cool!

  • any bottom end work?

  • you dont know shit from shinola

  • lol i want one of these to meke a dune buggy!!!!!!

  • Sounds pretty lethal.

  • No, because it is horizontally opposed, which cancels out the vibration.

  • @agentc73 No because its got a counter weighted crankshaft and the engine parts have been ballanced to within 1 gram. The stock horizonally opposed VW engine vibrates like a jack hammer.

  • how come it doesnt vibrate at all??

  • Apparently because it's well tuned, and bolted in good.

  • that is a fucking thing of beauty!!

  • i bet he lighten the fan and ported the hell out of the heads

  • Doubt the fan is lightened. Reinforced though. Specs are probably 84mm crank, 94mm piston from Mahle, Wiseco, or JE, K87 or larger (even though a small cam CAN be used to acheive big numbers), 044 castings with extensive port work, and of course IDAs.

  • Can you give the specs for the motor so I can compare to my friend's VW motor?

  • So that's about %500 more power than it made originally... Sick!

  • tons of torque too, really helps on the strip

  • Agora sim ta bom o motor, hauhauhasuah!!!!

  • Where do i get one?

  • Umm make it?

  • @corxrs Chico Performance Racing, and bring your checkbook ! (They really have good prices for the quaility of engines they build)

  • I've got a question? Why do you have a idler pulley on it? Its not needed. Unless you had to have it to run something?

  • its to keep the belt on at high speeds plus its an aftermarket belt and pulley system. its just a wider, and flatter belt.

  • I was wondering about that, Thanks!

  • serpentine system i think it was called

  • I'll have to look into one of those, We are going to start building a high powered VW motor. I want one like in the video. :-D

  • a stroker motor ;)

serpentine system aint good for high powerd bug engines, well its not gonna damage anythin but serpentine not made for high power there meant to be reliable, theres ones specifically made for high power apps though,

look around the sites, im sure youl find what your looking for mate

    cheers,

    mark.

  • That's nothing short of A B U S E !

  • yea get you 73' super beetle and junk it cuz super beetle are gay

  • agreed... too heavy, too big

  • perfect for racing though cus of its suspension and there width.

  • but harder to customized because of the different frame and electrics

  • yeah but it depends what u want to do with it. for me i didnt really have to do anything.

And with the electrical i always make my own electrical harness anyways so its easy.

  • ya, i'll go with you on that one.

  • not red

  • Horsepower Profiles. Com

    Brag A Little

  • all right, i have a 73' super beetle, i need some easy mods to the body, interior, and motor... any suggestions?

  • Nice vid........

    thanks for posting it.

    lots of post's here, how/why/when/what,help...

    keep you're project simple guys..

the go to set-up I have never regret'd : for a type (1) set up that made plenty of HP for myself and most people......

78 X 90.5, Engle fk89 cam, 48 ida Webers,Clyde Berg Heads, w/tall manifolds......top it off with a high-Flo single muffler tucked in high out of sight. and there-ya-go.......

  • people often buy 912's for the engine to rebuild a 356, even heard storys of people selling the crankshafts for several thousand more than they paid for the car, the 912E model had the type 4 engine(914 and late bus pancake engine) U can build a massive type 1 and just buy new cranks cases etc when they explode for 1/3rd or less the cost of a decent used 912 engine, itd be fun to put a built type 1 in a 912 cuz itd be lots cheaper and faster after u buy performance parts

  • Heay there. I have an application that requires 80-100bhp at 2500average-3000 max rpm no more hp, no less. I'm new to the VW engine building world. Does any one have sugestions on cyl, stroke, cam, and head selection? I haven't decided to go carb or fuel injection. Thanks for the help.

  • Youtube may not be the best place for advice. If you're looking into VW engines, I would check out vwvortex, widely regarded as THE source for Volkswagens on the net. Forums, classifieds, articles, the lot. There are many people there that will be happy to help.

  • vortex blows for aircooled, and in general their site is like navigating a maze. shoptalkforums or thesamba. hit them up.

  • 11.90 Seems slow for an engine with that much power.

They were running 7 seconds at at Punch Buggy Day, but that might have been 1/8 of a mile.

Either way sounds great. I'm just looking for a motor to help me chug up hills and pull away faster at lights.

  • Dude, that is blazing fast. The $100,000 ZR-1 Corvette gets 11.3. 11.90 might be too scary in a bug

  • I want to put an engine like that in my VW Thing.

  • I love that old school Mallory distributer! Sweet!

  • Nice! also gotta love that cool fan belt "tensioner" set up......very smart.

  • It is possible. Porsche engine for the 912 was based on an engine like this! And the 912 was quite powerfull!!

  • I'm afraid you've miscalculated. The 912 was the original Porsche 911, only with a flat-4 instead of the 6 (the same motor originally used in the 356. It may have been a powerful 4-cyl relative to other VW Flat-4s of the day, but in reality it made about 64 HP. Granted a bit of tuning and you have the results you see here but 64 HP really isn't much no matter how you cut it.

  • very smart to stay in dyno room while ... heh.

    Cool vid tough.

  • that fan belt was spinning so fast it dont look like its going round at all

  • Look at the etching on the pulley, you can see that spinning......

  • That engine now powers my 64 bug......it rocks

  • omg i bet it does how fun on the street is that ? I built a 71 convertible with a 200 hp 2110 cc that rocked 5.0 mustangs n vettes worlds when i tamed em light to light in dis-beleif! i always wanted a personal plate like 5LTEATR ( 5 LITER EATER

  • what dual carbs you talkin about?? the ones in the video??? or stock 32 pdsit solex??

  • What size engine is this? Looking for one for '69 bug

  • There all the same size

  • They're not all the same size at all!

'Normal' 60s and 70s Beetles came in 1192, 1285, 1493 and 1584cc. Bigger bore cylinder/pistons are available, and if you stumble across a very old engine it could even be an 1131. (or 985 if you want to go unfeasibly early... 1940s)

  • Ah dude. I miss understood ''mntncrk07's'' engine size! Any motor will fit in an 69 bettle

  • .. and I misunderstood the misunderstanding. Indeed they all fit in.

    Glad that's cleared!

    ;o)

  • I was asking as in cc, dummy.

  • it is a 2006cc engine or 2L

  • Is there any vw parts in that engine?

  • Props man!

  • do you think it is possible to design a VW flat 4 to make 250-300 HP at 2800 RPM? Or am I better off looking at another engine?

  • BHP is a function of torque and RPM, so 300BHP @ 2800 is highly unlikely from a small engine. Turbocharging a large capacity motor may 'head in that direction'!

    ;o)

  • Hmmmmm...300 BHP @ 2800 rpm works out at 564 lb/ft of torque.....that's an awful lot......

  • Interesting - I hadn't done the maths, but I'd guessed about a 'bus-worth' of engine.

I think a 9.6 litre Leyland diesel is about 500 lb/ft, so not so far out!

  • @the1bigace It would be hard to get that horsepower that low in the rpm range. These little engines really don't make the big numbers until you get around 5000 rpm. You might get close with a turbo engine or one of the old Dick Landy roots type blower kits (if you can find one !)

  • I was just wondering what is the lighest beetle shell you can get? (i know the 1303 and 1302 beetle shells were the heaviest. thanks.

  • i kno a 69-71 beetle(flat windscreen) is quite light around 820 kg not sure about the others. any engine making over about 100hp will give u a rude shock when you put the pedal down trust me.

  • CUALES SON SUS CARACTERISTICAS

  • QUE TIENE PARA TENER 211 HP

  • Nice motor, Who's Dyno

  • how much to full bodied bugs weigh?

  • up to a ton no more i think

  • Holy fucking ballsack

  • hi chico, can you tell us the specs?thanks

  • 6000 RPM, wow! Mine runs out of breath at 4900 with the PICT-34. That's cool.

  • whats his webiste?>

  • Way to go Chico..I just bought his new dyno day engine! 221 hp 191 Listen NOBODY MAKES A BETTER ENGINE FOR THE MONEY! save your cash and buy one from him...also remember his 1915 will beat others larger engines!

  • @fastenf62 Amen Bro ! I'm jelous as hell !!! I'm ordering a set of Anibal's heads for my Baja. I hope to buy an engine from him in the next few years for a drag race rail. CPR is the shit !!!

  • I have a 1300 @ 45HP lmao!

  • Hell yea is all i have to say about that

  • its a 4-stroke. i wish i had one of those. i'm stuck with 1600 though lol

  • sounds lkkike i need to masturbate to that noise

  • jajajajajajajajajajajja

    i did it

  • 52 sec of this is all i nead *-*

  • 200HP two stoke 11.9 sounds like fun.

  • not sure what 2 stroke you noticed but fun indeed. very impressive number.

  • I would guess the four stroke that size would be kinda to heavy for it, I wish people would start making Carbon fiber cermaic engines though :/

  • what are you talking about in reference to the 4 stroke for it? 4 stroke is a type of engine cycle...not a part of a motor.

  • rods, cams, lifters, IE the weight of one 4 stokre other parts with ohv is heavy comapred to a two stroke of the same size. I know it's a cycle

  • Vw flat four is a 4 stroke bud. It's light cause it's air cooled, not alot of metal in it and the crank case is magnesium.

  • @golem72002 Its a 4 stroke,fucktard !

  • @MrGonzoTx EAT DICK BITCH

  • nice flat 4 mate
