The best way to place a subwoofer is to set the sub in the spot of the room where you sit then start the test tone for the sub. Walk around the room. Where it sounds the best is where it should go. Preferably in the front of the room to avoid hearing tones from the sub that you aren't supposed to hear. Also your main speakers should never be too close to the tv. The main speakers should be as far from each other as you are from them for good stereo separation. That is straight from Dolby labs.
DONOT place your subwoofer in any corner. Place your sub against the largest flat wall you have. Or better still, out in the open. Never place a sub in a corner. Unless you like BOOM...If you want your system to sing apply simple physics.. And ask AV Forums for help. Never place a sub in a corner. End of.
@dtsmucker You should never talk in absolutes. Every room is different therefore every set up is different. For example if you use a passive subwoofer some times you are better off putting it in a corner or behind the entertainment center. That way you can double the bass and use the amplifiers bass control to adjust the bass. I still have clients that use passive subwoofers and they love them.
Stop fucking hating if you already knew what to do then why did you watch this video?

How far back can the suround speakers go? 10 ft?
CrAzZyMeX13 2 years ago
If the speakers are small and less powerful keep it ~ 6feet, the speakers can be kept at even 10feet or more depending on speaker power and throw.
