i read that Hulk was legit rough in this match and backstage ''outlaw'' went up to Hulk to complain and Hulk just laughed and told him he better walk then ''outlaw'' started to say something else and Hulk stomped his foot at him and ''outlaw'' took off running.
in case any of you are wondering, "The Outlaw" is my grandfather John Ingersoll, this match was in a small community center in Jackson Tennessee in early March of 79
If The Outlaw isn't the definition of a jobber I don't know what is. Its like they pulled a guy off the street, put him in that getup and shoved him out there. He was probably paid 50 bucks or some paltry amount for that night.
@dontchadaremissit It's not 1978 because the title match they mention in this clip is from 1979. Hulk never had a shot at the title, any title, until 1979. That information can be verified and is well documented on the net with a simple google search. It's from 79'. I'd put money on it.
@capitalismforme His rationale was that at the beginning of 1979 Terry Boulder became Sterling Golden. But you're right, i think the title match they are referring to was early '79, likely meaning this match was sometime in the first few months of '79. He also gets applause and is treated as a "face" in this match. I'm pretty sure that must make it early '79. I agree with you now, 1979 is the year.
Hulk didn't start wrestling until 1977 so it's impossible this video is from 1976. Secondly, He never went by the name "Hulk" until a few years later. He started wrestling in Alabama in 1978 as a tag team with Brutus Beefcake who posed as his brother. The video mentions him being in Alabama "a few weeks ago". My guess, at the earliest, this is from 1979 or 1980. Definitely not 1976.
@capitalismforme Doing some additional research, the championship bout the commentators are talking about at :35 is a match that happened in Alabama on May of 1979. Placing this video at approximately May or June of 1979.
@capitalismforme I've commented before, that it's gotta be 1979. But the original box for the VHS tape it came in said 1976 so that's what i labelled it as when i uploaded.
@dontchadaremissit Ok. Well, it seems it would make more sense to edit your title and write in 1979 because people are using your date in their arguments on other boards and your label is causing disinformation to be spread.
@capitalismforme I edited the title to 1979. I didn't realize a simple video i posted has caused arguments... I know there is another version on here that says 1980. This is not 1980, i have a bunch of hulk matches from 1980 and he's a bit younger here, it's definitely noticeable. For the record, the original box this tape came from, a VHS set i have from 1986, two tapes - "Rock n Roll Rumble" or "Tag Team Title Wave", it lists the match as from 1976. I was skeptical, but it was on the box.
@dontchadaremissit Yeah this must be from 1979. He had a shot at the NWA Heavyweight championship in May of 1979. They seem to be referring to that in the video so this most likely May or June of 1979. Later in the year he went to WWF for the first time, which culminated in his first and mostly forgotten match against Andre the Giant at Shea Stadium. He then spent time in New Japan and the AWA before returning to the WWF and start his legendary run with them.
Before the Rock, there was The Boulder. Here he is defending himself against the great Outlaw. What an epic battle, too bad it looked like a quick squash match.
There is no way "The Outlaw" weighs 210 pounds. He looks 140 at most LOL.

This is like watching Alabama or Oregon play a Jr high team. Gordon knowing this never missed a beat, legendary announcer.

Greatest match ever. Highly believable, filled with high impact moments including a homosexual-esque finisher. Solid five-star affair here.

Can't believe people thought this was real but they see Jeff Hardy fall 25ft off a ladder onto a table and say "fake".
But then again, people are stupid, and I love wrestling =)
