I aided the face a few feet left of his line last summer. It's basically a bolt ladder and I couldn't fathom anyone sport climbing the blank overhung face. I know people can climb some crazy shit but this has literally no holds whatsoever, especially being overhung. After seeing dean struggle up the arete, I can assume the line I ascended has never been free climbed. Anyone have any info on this bolt ladder?
Nice to see those little insulators 'round the knees. Those rocks are gritty. Seems like there should be something a bit more protective and portable than the pads on the ground. Glad he didn't get hurt, glad to see that even someone as strong a climber as Mr. Potter falls now and then.
Man that looks hard!! If I was trying that I'd have ten times the crash mats though!! (actually, no. I wouldn't need them because I doubt I'd get off the ground lol)
What a great commentary Dean! & such an amazing victory.. I'm an old guy of 49 with a pretty trashed body, but had a very short lived cream time climbing in the park in the very early 80's.. Now I climb in memory, and through the eyes and talents of men and women of an entirely new generation that have simply blown my mind, thanks for sharing your passion on here for the world to enjoy!! (Rock-on) pun, very much intended!! ~(: ps. you non-likes, your bloody wankers, go view basket weaving
Honnold did this in May and thought it was much easier than Dean and tbh i know Deans got a head for this stuff but Honnold really is quite unbelievably head strong.

Dean Potter has obviously a lot of courage to accomplish a high boulder problem like that.

@djkret111 They usually climb over and walk down. At least whenever possible.
