you can also take the the loose toothpick then hit it on a hard surface really hard then let it bounce, same effect as rubbing it on your nail

rub the flat part of the toothpick against the surface of the nail... It creates a weird kind of vibration!! definitely will require some practice! (doesn't work well with those thick round pointy toothpicks..)
