  • this needs to be re-released so everyone can find out how good these girls really are, in fact re-release the lot, then we can all be smug in knowing that we have loved the supremes for years & years

  • smile> i l.o.v.e. this Beautiful Lady' Lengendary *Diana Ross * where would History be without you?? smile>

  • if you have a 40$ pair of head phones it sounds great!

  • did Berry Bordy die???

  • I liked the Supremes as much as anyone else did, but as far as I'm concerned, they never again rocked quite like this one ... except in 1966 with "You Keep Me Hangin' On"! You go, gals!

  • it's a "JUNJUN".

  • This song has always been one of my favorites. I'm surprised it wasn't a bigger hit for them. It only reached #27 I think. It has a very churchy sound, maybe that's what held it back

  • The Supremes were greater, than every single one of their members! When Berry Gordy picks up Diana Ross, to sing every lead, it was the beginning of their giant success. From 1961 to 1964, with their different lead-singers, The Supremes only made "flops" (by the way ... I like the girl's early "Your Heart Belongs To Me", "I Want A Guy" or "Run Run Run" and "A Breath Taking Guy" (last song a Smokey Robinson masterpiece!). So, what I mean - Diana's more "commercial" voice was the key for success!

  • You just hit the nail on the head.

Everything happened just like it was meant to happen.

    Cool song too.

  • i like this song

  • nice

  • this is so nice:) love it:)great job:)

  • @millymille1 You're welcome.

  • gossip.

  • I think that when Berry selected Diana to be the lead singer replacing Flo...maybe she did have a drinking problem and he saw that was going to be a problem for the group. Or, perhaps he felt that he wanted a lead with a different timbre of voice to attract a different target market.

  • . Flo felt pushed aside with diane being the main leader of a group She formed. Flo appointed herself the lead I guess becuz she started the group. Diane and Flo fought from day one becuz Diane is Lead singer by trade but so was Flo. natural lead singers. Diane had the more crossover pop appeal distintive voice ..as Smokey said, they were experimenting with leads.he says Flo was Never the Lead singer for the supremes.

Flo started drinking when Diane got All the Leads a group she started.

  • @blkshepherd You are so stupid to believe that shit. Flo was the lead singer. Diane flirted and fucked Berry and became the lead singer ok? Got it?

  • @DetroitLives313 U stupid bi polar bitch! You fucked everything with a penis and how far did you get you 50cent whore! DetroitDEADASS!

  • @DetroitLives313 U just a dumbass go bac to that dead ass city detroit..poorest city in the USA! bunch of crackheads!

  • I don't understand why people have to hate one and love another. They were all terrific. While it is clear from post Supremes days that Diana's talent was the lasting one, it should not diminish the contributions of the other two, nor the wonderful groundbreaking impact they had on music! There is plenty of room to praise all three and enjoy this wonderful music!

  • they wouldn't have had the supremes without Florence Ballard!.. or Mary Wilson as far as that goes.. We saw that with the "Reunion" tour... some people can not be easily replaced.. and the Supremes did go on without Diana Ross.. greeds an ugly thing

  • wouldnt have had the Supremes with out the voice of Diana Ross either..When you hear old Supremes songs you Only hear the ones with Diana leading. and you hear a Diana Ross solo song. how many times do you hear a Mary Wilson or Florence Ballard or Cindy Birdsong song? Bash Ross all you like, but face it. No Ross. No one would have heard of the Supremes. but you would have heard of Diana because she knew Smokey who was Berry Gordys Best Friend. Diana asked Smokey to set up audtion for her group

  • after diana left the group the supremes were veary successful until the mid 70's the 70's music is just as good.

  • @KRstar78 If they were just as good as you say. how come on the oldies channels they ONLY play Diana lead Supremes and Never any after she left? You hear My World is Empty, Baby Love, Where Did OUr love Go, Stop in the Name/ Reflections. but you dont hear Up the latter to the Roof, Stone Love, Everybodys got the right to Love, NOne of the 70s Supremes post diana. they never had another no.1 and they werent near as glamourous without ross.

  • that my be true but the oldies channels only seam to play 50's and 60's an some 70's. If you ever get the chance listen to the 70's collection is just a different aura.

  • this beats is so hard my city was sweet as hell bac in the day still in live in the D I love it lol born here stay lay here detroit lol we gone come watch lmao we ain't done

  • THEY don't look like the Dreams..the Dreams were inspired by The Supremes. The legend of The Supremes was greater than the sum of its individual parts. Flo, Mary, and Diane were individual parts along with The Funk Brothers, H=D=H, Cholly Adkins, Berry Gordy, and Motown Records. If you are a fan of Diane's talent, enjoy her when she was in her prime, a part of something much bigger and greater than herself, the LEGENDARY SUPREMES!!!!!!

  • the mix and background on these early songs were really great

mary flo and diana all to hear

not on songs like "I head a symphone" where the background was always turned down

  • Stop hating on diana. you pepole are really stupid. just be happy because they wouldn't have been the supremes without her

  • the would you maybe forgot flo found the group

and she give them the name

  • The sound on this is terrific!! Which cd was this taken? Thanks. Love the pictures too!!

  • at 00:57

They're look like the Dreams! I was shocked when I saw this part.. especially to Diana Ross, who looks identically with Deena!

  • @uarlee001 that's 'cause the movie DREAMGIRLS was based more or less on the real Supremes. They took a lot of elements from their personal story, like that they were from Detroit and Florence Ballard (with the big voice) was relegated to the background by Gordy Berry, who went on to marry Diana Ross, the lead. Also, the movie used Diana's image (late '60s fro, mid '70s big frizzy hair) and the most obvious, all the album covers in the movie were almost replicas of the Supremes originals.

  • @musicaltheatergeek79 There also seems to be a couple of similar names.Dreamettes(Primettes),Deana(Diana).

  • Thank you. This was thunder and lightning for

a Supremes song. I remember hearing it for the first time on American Bandstand or a

similar TV program. Some teens on that episode were asked to rate the song and its performance. They liked it and predicted a hit. The kids dancing to this irrestible track displayed an enthusiastic response as well. The rest is music history to celebrate. You have a new and grateful subscriber.

  • When I heard this song in early 1965 I was SHOCKED it was my girls who at that time I had just fallen in love with. This was true Supreme and the girls rock. HDH was at their best with writing/producing this song with the fabulous FUNK brothers tearing up the backgroud music with SOUL.

  • omg i love dis song.....

  • Back in th e80's I sat next to Martha Reeves via Chgo to Detroits Metro airport, I took photos w/ her and she hugged me and said dont forget to go see "the Henry ford Museum" what happened to her hawking the Motown museum? every last Motown Act aside from smokey Robinson has all sued Berry Gordy for more monwy.. talk about bitter... What Happened.; did Berry really fuck him all over? Except Diana and Smokey!

  • That A Lie Man My Uncle Berry Gordy Did't Done Anything Wrong And I Noe

  • diana is ugly and she had to do what she had to, sleep with gordy to make her "diana ross and the supremes". what does that say about her... like the temps they rather had david kicked out than making it a one man show.... even though he did contribute, now thats a true group, no one is bigger than anyone else...

  • a lot of truth written on this page especially branchwater7. motown and all connected with it changed music and america. the original supremes took nyc by storm. dreamgirls was 0 to the real thing. Flo was wonderful and was treated badly especially by miss ross who somehow thought she was the whole package. she was not. i saw them live more than once including the famous copa, small and intimate room. just them, the band and us. no rockets, flying bicycles or effects. SUPREME!

  • sorry but dreamgirls was nowhere near the glory of the supremes. it approached the legendary status of the three degrees MAYBE, but the supremes... no way!!! hollywood & america still isn't ready to truly acknowledge the cultural and social importance of ross & the sumpres (or motown, for that matter).

  • I wish Flo was alive

  • @enmaxus me to

  • @enmaxus dont we all. ever wondered what it would have been like? if she would have been asked to join the reunion tour when it was there?

  • Diana Ross is the best.

  • Florence was very beultiful, it makes me sad that she is no more

  • I know. She was so talented and her voice was like "whoa!"

  • Great Photos, Great Song, GREAT Tribute!

    Thanks. . .

  • Flo was beautiful with a beautiful voice, what a tragic shame.

  • What happened to Flo??

  • Even with all the changes..miss Ross..miss Birdsong...nothing like the original trio...AMEN

  • My friend jonathanGardner is going to post an interview with flo from 1975. So you are going to be able to hear flo's voice in the interview she talks about her kids, the suprmes, and how berry treated her.

  • You can sure hear Flo hit those high notes.I am just beginning to hear her voice more now.I wish there was an interview of her I could hear.

  • The Supremes were and always will be the Ultimate Girl Group

Their timeless songs will live on forever...

    God bless you Flo xx

  • It's not just their timeless original songs and music, it was the timeless and forward sound of Diana Ross' voice that really made the difference. I just heard their rendition of The Beatles "Hey Jude" Love it! There is just something about the appeal of that full glass clear voice of hers that no one can deny

  • I like comparing The Supremes and Destiny's Child because they both took over the world its true the supremes didn't share leads but it was the group that made it supremes so I like the honor these two group who conquered the world.

  • You can hardly come pare Detiny's Child to The Supremes, as if it was not for The Supremes breaking the ice, there would be no Destiny's Child.

As far as both groups " taking over the world ", it's been how long since The Supremes had a hit & they are still legendary while Destiny's Child will most likely be forgotton by most in the same amount of time down the line.

The only thing they have in common is that they both sing and all are female.

  • One of my favorite songs in the mid 60's.

  • i was talking about who played diana in the temptations movie, gina rivera was the lady who played josephine otis's wife

  • i thought it was bianca lawson that played diana in the movie

  • I love this song Florence is my fav because I adore her voice especially on the studio version of people that isnt on youtube yet but i do like diana and mary. I also must say YOU CANNOT COMPARE DESTINY'S CHILD TO THE SUPREMES BECAUSE DC SHARE THE LEADS ON MOST OF THEIR SONGS and the supremes did not well at least Flo, Mary and Diana didn't only at the very begining were leads shared and when they did like special recordingss like christmas cd's etc..

  • I have seen The Supremes when they were here in Richmond ,Va.on Feb.4,1967 and Flo is not 5'11"with heels. She did gain a lot of weight in a short time. They gave a perfomance I will never forget. The first song was You Keep Me Hanging On.Rest in peace Flo.Honey,ya'll is the greatest.

  • Nice Photos :)

  • dIANA WOULD BE bEYONCE

    MARY-kELLY

    fLORENCE-mICHELLE

  • I think mary-kelly florence-beyonce and diana would be michelle because michelle is skinny like diana

  • Michelle ain't Flo by a long shot, they would have to get another member to play Flo.

  • and beyonce wasn't Diane because her voice wasn't as powerful as Beynoce's. I put it this way:

Flo=Beyonce (just look at the Baby Love video from Top of the Pops.

    Mary=Kelly

Diane=LaTavia (even though LaTavia was kicked out of the group, I think both her and Diane's eyes are somewhat similar).

  • but i bet that diana would more respect than beyonce!(smh) back then, music was real, but now it's not good because today's music is based on image!

  • that is essence atkins

  • was your comment directed towards me? cuz if it is then your wrong cuz i looked it up

  • who would play diana

  • that's a good question.

  • I can't remember her name, but she played cousin Faith in the movie SOULFOOD. She was also in SHOWGIRLS,and in the television movie about the TEMPTATIONS. Either her or an unknown to play Miss Ross.

  • Essence Atkins from Half & Half

  • that wasnt essence her name is gina ravera

  • These women paved the way for yesterday!!!

  • Love this song + great video, thanks. Love hearing Mary + Miss Flo belting it out in the background

  • i LOVE this song! this should have been a top 10 hit.

  • Thanks so much forthis video...it really brings back alot of memeories :-)

  • the best part of this song is flo.she carries the chorus and here high notes are great. forget diana when flo and mary wuu whooo it is wonderful.

  • This Supremes Single Was Released(Issued)On Motown as M-1051 in November, 1963

  • Didn't This Song Come Out in 1963 and does anyone here(if they're old enough)know who Holland-Dozier-Holland was?

  • H-D-H were 3 guys and the writers of most of the Supremes music.

  • hdh were brian holland, his brother eddie holland and lamont dozier.

  • This remains one of my all time favorite Supremes songs, with that "Bo Diddley" influenced rhythm, those handclaps, and that harmony. No doubt about it, they could sing (and surely would have sang rings around Beyonce and Destiny's Child, for sure!) Rest in peace, Flo.

  • i love this song

  • As a student of the process, I love this song too. The Supremes were hungry for a hit, H-D-H was still working on a formula, but "Where Did Our Love Go" was looming on the horizon.

  • lovelight was the very first single right?

it just has an early motown girl group feel that is very chitlin circuit, and also is a sound that the supremes kind of left behind for their more "pop" sound....but that sound is what helped them rise above the rest ... yet i still love this song!!!

  • No, the first single was " Tears of Tomorrow"/ "Pretty Baby" while they still called themselves "The Primettes" ( label Lupin 120 released 3/59). Then 6 singles was realesed (Tamla and Motown). None of them a hit. They had chanced they name to THE SUPREMES, but was better known as "the no-hit-supremes"."LOVELIGHT" reached # 23 0n BILLBOARD, but the follower "Run, Run, Run" was a flop. Finally "Where did our love go" was realesed (6/17/64) and reached #1 on Billboard. The rest is history.

  • i meant the first single as the supremes, not the primettes, as far as i'm concerned those are two different groups.

  • The first single with The Supremes was " I Want a Guy"/" Never Again". (TAMLA 54038 3/9/61) :)

  • thanks :)

  • wasn't that a nice post, hmmm faith? thinkin of someone a lil taller

  • It would be haunting to see Faith Evans play Flo in a real "Supremes" movie...

  • I know right, but she would have to gain her weight back and thats what they need to do is make a REAL Supremes movie. I mean tell every single detail that happened in the past, but wouldnt that piss off Diana?

  • it would be a risk, but i dont think she would be extremely upset, after the whole dreamgirls issue... but florence ballard's story would make a great lifetime movie, if not better.

  • Good Idea, but there's one small problem. Flo was 5'11 the tallest memeber of the group. I think Faith Evans is 5'4 or 5'5

  • too bad. she could really pull it off if the heights were similar

  • My mistake you had right the first time Faith Evans would be perfect to play Flo.

  • I thought the same too and kelly rowland as mary wilson

  • yea i think kelly rowland looks exactly like mary wilson

  • Florence was 5'11 WITH heels she was not 5'11 without shoes more like 5'7 or 8 geesh people get your facts straight

  • Excuse me if that serious to you why don't you play the part batterzupdc.

  • that was really nice

  • I LOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOVE those grrlls!!

  • ...they made history, music, love & pride

  • BEAUTIFUL BLACK WOMEN

  • Diana and the girls have never looked better...!
