Did someone just mention the thought of Black Sabbath and Van Halen on stage together? I just threw up in my mouth!! Only if Sabbath is the headliner!! If it's without Bill Ward who cares. Either way having Tony Iommi on stage with a wanker like Eddie is pretty much a sin of epic proportion. Tony Iommi kills EVH!!!!
it was '79, never say die tour. none of my friends had ever heard of "van who"? they came out and fucked up my world.(me being a MAJOR sabbath fan), great band, just different. i sat thru it. the the guys took the stage.
never been so disappointed in my life. ozzy couldnt remember his name, much less the words to the songs. tony, at least twice, started playing THE WRONG SOLO on rock and roll doctor, and some jam thing they did.
When i was young me n my mate's played this at high volume while passing a church wedding photo op it was a nice big church felt it was a big FUCK YOU to the man
@gunnut1989 well ,,,, take this for wtf!!! I like Metallica but 69 on LSD we loved Sabbath as we hid from the Cops, 72 we loved them in Cambodia, & 75 this is one of the last songs we heard before our Federal Govt. "really took care of us".I pity you for not knowing what is real.
This was the soundtrack to my teenage rebellion and creative chemical exploration. Brutal riff - followed by such a mellow groove - blew me away. IMO - first half of the tune was the true birth of what most folks call heavy metal. The influence of this band on rock guitarists can't be understated.
This song came out long before Thrash Metal, Death Metal, all of the "core" metals: Deathcore, Grindcore, etc. But, this riff is still one of the most brutal riffs ever played.
Yep. Best Sabbath record with Ozzy for sure. Still holds up as an eternal Metal Masterpiece. Bill Ward is so amazing on the Drums and the band was actually tight at this point in their career.
I remember playing this for my drummer friend in high school. When it got to the fills of the first "chorus" part his jaw dropped and all he said was "wow." I love the changes at 3:35 and 4:24. Some absolutely amazing acoustic guitar work there at the end. Sabbath was so versatile, so fucking good... Wow.
@Amsterdaz--I have no idea why, but I often wonder the same thing. It could be because of the album cover. Sometimes, stuff of that nature (i.e. guys dressed in drag) can ruin the reputation of the album and/or or spawn controversy such that it would affect sales. Then again, this was done in England. Nonetheless, I agree. This is probably one of their best works. I can't stop listening to it.
They never performed the whole song live. They would stop where I think it's gets interesting. At the 4:12 mark, where the acoustic guitar kicks comes in and Ozzy gets all peace & love. Tony plays a great solo on acoustic too.
@MrAdammassacre It's a good riff, and waht about Dissendent Aggressor? Still, no one has made a riff like that, or Tyrant, or Saint's In Hell. Sabbath created Metal, but Priest is my favoirte band. The ultimate tour would be Black Sabbath and Judas Priest.
prie3st are sabbath wannabes. they should not embarrass themselves that way.
priest rocks, but as for me, they represent rock and roll sacrelige. halford, the self professed "god of metal....:"

@edslides1 I just tuned in to this banter. I have lived long enough (54) to have figured everything out. wink In my grand heirarchy of things (I hope I spelled that correctly) no one comes close to the mark set by the classic four Black Sabbath albums: Master, Vol.4, Bloody, and Sabotage. All other bands are great no question, they can play and play live which makes them all accomplished musicians and performers, but. And I love Yes, Hendrix, Traffic, Led, The Who & The Stones.
im 52, and have seen many heavy bands come and go.
i dont know why i keep getting sucked in. maybe its because i am a 1st generation metal head, and just dont get what metal mutated into. imo, there is a great 'something " missing in the 2nd gen of metal. it DID change, and i just cant accept that judas priest and the rest of their ilk understand real metal. they seem to be 1 trick ponies, while the sabs were different every album,
@jfkdjfd NO NO NO NNO NNO NO NO NO NO NO sabbath and blue oyster cult. (black and blue tour) killer show sabbath and sir lord baltimore (black lord tour) ditto even van halen in '78 (great show, tho vh kinda took it, much to my horror) but i gigress NOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOO!!!!!!!!!! the "gods" of metal cannot open for the Creators of same bit of an oxymoron, dont ya think? there is a reason rob halford only sang with sabbath ONE time huge disappointment
@edslides1 What? Judas Priest isn't Priest anymore because Ken left the band. Halford sang with Sabbath because he was available. Judas Priest is classified as the Metal Gods, a title no other band has. Not even Sabbath, they're the creators, but not the Metal Gods. No way, no how.
@edslides1 Are you stupid? Thefans of Sabbath and Priest and all the other Heavy Metal bands dubbed Judas Priest the "Metal Gods." The media did and everyone knows that.
@edslides1 Of course Priest doesn't play the same as Sabbath, but they are Heavy Metal. You took something that was not complicated at all, and made a fool of yourself and turned that same uncomplicated thing into a complicated thing. Judas Priest is Heavy Metal. did you even listen to sir lord baltimore like i asked you to?
apparently not, because you havent written back to tell me you may have made a mistake, and that slb is the real deal, and that metal may be just a bit more than your 14 year old mind can tolerate.
@KRW1612--I hope to have a vinyl copy of this. I only have the cassette. Nonetheless, I feel the material on it is more important than the format. I do, however, agree... I like the sound of vinyl better. This was released before I was even born, and blows away today's crappy music 1000X. They don't make music like they used to :)
brilliant song, they could of been one of the best bands ever, but they should of lost the facial hair so they drop in the ranks unfortunatly,
