howd it feel having things touching up against your eye, like the instruments and the drops, im extremely sensitive to things touching my eyes lol, eye drops are tough on me
the doctors would have to jam a pencil in my eye and hold it so it wouldn't move, im not kidding, my pupil would be moving in a circle like a headless chicken.
You all have to remember this is a video from 5 years ago. Procedures have changed a TON since then. They don't use the "can opener" anymore. It's all done with light and lasers.
hmmm i want to get this done but i am so nervous bc it is my eyes... how much does this cost? ill be 26 in july and im sooo tired of wearing contact and glasses every year
I got this done, but as I was short sighted, and could take of my glassess for reading, I now need reading glasses as its like having permanently long vision. Now I feel older than I did before and I was in pain for about half an hour after. Not good result to be fair....
I just had this procedure a couple of days ago. Honestly, the worst part was knowing what was happening. The "can opener", was probably the most stressful 5 seconds of my life, just because i knew what he was doing. If they hadn't told me they were cutting a flap in my eyeball, i wouldn't have been bothered at all, because there is minimal discomfort, and NO pain. The only medication i had was some numbing drops. they offered an anti-anxiety pill, which i declined.
@maimai1ty89 they tell you it will last roughly 10 years then your vision will slowly keep back down, but many friends have had it done and they are going on 10 years with no signs of change, and even ones father had it done almost 15 years ago and hes still got perfect vision.
I got this done yesterday. My eyes were extremely irritable and light sensitive for about 4 hours but by evening I could comfortably watch TV and use a computer and be in a well lit room without my shades. In my check up today I was told my left eye is now 20-20 and my right eye is slighly better than 20-20 (didn't know that was possible, will probably get my own optometrist to check that though :D Would reccommend this to anyone, don't let the vid put u off, its a quick and painless procedure!
@MrAbilash11 I don't believe so. there will be a light that you need to be able to focus on during the procedure. Honestly, having had it done, it wouldn't be worth being knocked out for the less than 15 minutes the procedure takes. It is totally painless, and no where near as bad as it looks from this point of view. The clinic I went to offered an anti-anxiety pill... i didn't take it, but if i had seen this video first, i probably would have.
oh my god ! i wanted to make lasik surgery cause im -4 left and right but after i had seen that surgery i decided not to do it and prefer to where glasses and contact lenses than doing that
I really apreciate this video. I just started considering some kind of eye surgery and seeing the whole process really helps me understand what I'm getting into.
The video is from 2006. I don't how have things changed much in 5 years, but i went to lasik surgery this spring and it was much faster. I didn't feel anything, I didn't even realize that the doctor has opened that top layer of my eye. During operation I just stared at the red dot maybe 15 seconds per eye. No complications or dry eyes(well, first two weeks was dry, but it's 'cos of the medicine). I saw quite well half an hour later, and next morning was close to perfect.
@birnaddd In Finland lasik is about 2500€+few hundred for checkups. But Finland is pretty expensive country, for exemple in Estonia it's 1000 euros cheaper. But I don't trust ex-communist countries that much, that I would risk my eyes...
@boozebreeder I feel better reading your comment. Thank you very much. After the video I still want to do Lasik in this week. I'm not afraid...I'm not afraid... not af-f-fraid...
@sonnytenedo Don't be. You don't feel anything. (Just pressure like touching your contacts when its on your eyes)
In fact I didn't know they are touching my eyes so often until i watch this video. I thought they were just waving the instruments near my eyes. Defintely worth it.
@sonnytenedo Nope. 0 Pain. Think of the pressure as someone pressing their thumb against your hand. You are given numbing eye drops before the surgery so u can't feel any pain.
@zebradancing It reattaches itself automatically over the three months. That is why you can't rub your eyes the first 2 weeks to prevent dislodging it.
@zebradancing Oh, I'm sorry, I was thinking of another video when I clicked back and read the comments. I was totally wrong. Sorry about that.
Something really neat about LASIK: The upper cells of the cornea do heal quickly. However, the lower cells never do, and can forever be seen by an ophthalmologist during an exam.
If done by a skilled surgeon, LASIK can be VERY safe and results are noticed right after surgery.
I got Lasik. No pain at all. Easy surgery and after, you get to choose any pair of sunglasses you want that no longer have to clip onto your glasses and no more contact lenses. I am a big fan of Lasik surgery.
@divdawgd I'm like you...I was never able to wear contacts b/c my eyes were too twitchy, but after several years of contemplating it, I had LASIK about a month ago. After seeing the results, I can't believe I waiting as long as I did to have the procedure. They give you a valium to keep you calm and in the end you can't really see what they're doing and you hardly feel a thing. What you do feel is a slight pressure...no pain.
