  • Awesome..

  • what's the name of the guy on the electric piano?

  • @kaloyansa It's definitely Joni Haastrup - before this he played with Baker on keys for 'Ginger Baker's Airforce'.

  • Ginger Baker in Africa. It's a great DVD. I highly reccomend it.

  • GINGER KNICKED ME FOR $7,500 IN 1988, ANYBODY GOT HER PHONE NUMBER!

  • Ginger liked it primal and complex and on the edge of being out of control. He used two bass drums, like jazz player Louie Bellson...In 2008 a bank clerk was charged with defrauding him of almost ($60,000). The bank clerk claims that it was a gift after she and Baker became lovers. Not so, insisted Baker, who explained, "I've a scar that only a woman who had a thing with me would know. It's there and she doesn't know it's there."....His Biography is called, "Hellraiser." Great stuff.

  • @keirajaimon so do you like it primal & out of control?

  • Worlds.Best.Keyboard.Sound.

  • @phoenix,

You really know about Ginger's life and death? Then do you think the man living in Africa as Ginger Baker, who is 71 and still an exellent drummer is an imposter? Interesting... I think he's the real Ginger Baker, and he is living a nice long life. Long live Ginger Baker.

  • mindblowing

  • These white guys ain'ty got no rhythm

  • what is fela kuti playing in this video?

  • @ratamacu3 He's not.

  • @uptownrocker i see

  • @ratamacu3 The Fela footage was from a concert, but he's not playing in the jam.

  • @uptownrocker right on thanks bro

  • A full minute of stroking Derik Rose' ego. No thanks LAME commercials thumbs down.

  • Love them old Premiers.

  • is he smoking a joint? haha.

  • Ginger Jam is good

  • Ginger Backer is the fucking best drummer of all time

    Thump up if you agree

  • Great solo! By the way, Ginger Baker LIVES in Africa now and, although much older, is looking much more healthy after many years of clean living. He is semi- retired, but, even at over 70 he still gets behind the kit sometimes and, no, he hasn't lost it. Right here on YouTube are many videos that have been taken in the past few years. Type in "Ginger Baker Wrapping Paper" for his recent opinion of one of Cream's poppier songs.

  • You can see where Santana got some of his influences from, together with the Latin influence.

  • i think he's still alife man, isn't he?

  • this is epic.

  • haha something in the system tried to stop me from downloading in firefox but I got this video,f the download police

  • Clearly a borrowed kit...I love how beat to crap that rack tom head is. Damn I love some Ginger Baker.

  • hmmm how high was bker in this one??? this high??? this high??? or maybe this high????

  • Rock-soul-suíngue-selva-sinceridade-intensidade-imprevisibilidade. ROCK!

  • The interesting thing about Ginger Baker is that he hasn't aged in the 39 years since this video was shot. He still looks like he's 80!

  • Ginger has his skins tuned proper loose on that kit, and this is well good footage i must get this DvD :D

  • Dancers = Pure Awesomeness

  • They're so cooped up that they seem to be playing out from a sardine box. Great vibes though, Baker jamming to Afro break-neck speed tempos - brilliant!

  • Ginger revealed Fela Kuti on this trip - the "Bob Marley" of Africa. Introduced the world to "Afro funk".

  • ......for anyone who really likes this spiritual, supernatural sound is on "Fifth"by giger

  • I love EVERTHING about the Ginger Baker/Salt sessions EXCEPT the guitar work!

  • I think this is what music is all about.Someone enlighten me.WHY didn't Ginger give Eric a ring during these sessions?

  • look at it in the 3 minute mark.... shit

  • Its great.. ;-))

  • Fantastic! Killer organ, groovy girl vocals, thunderous bass, wild congas, eerie horns, and well, Ginger on drums!!! this shows one more time that music's the best!

  • This is pretty cool footage...what program is this from?

  • This is wonderful.

  • sorry but this is amazing. bearing in mind he was a jazz drummer before cream i guess he fits in real well

  • And a jazz drummer IN Cream too! Don't tell Ginger you think he's a Rock drummer...haha!

  • OMG, Baker actually impressed here! I was not a fan of his Cream days but it worked well,:)

  • now back to gene krupa's syncopated style :)

  • get to work god damn it on the frggin floor asshole

  • simply out of this world

  • do they have any Cd released?

  • DVD Ginger Baker in Africa. Ginger and soundman made/director made this . They only had a Nagra tape recorder which is for film dialogue not music. See cd Africa '70 with Ginger Baker. Band is Fela Ransom- Kuti. Also Ginger Baker Air Force.

  • thanks mate!

  • Fela Ransom Kuti its one musiker not a holl band

  • Band is Africa 70

  • From what I've heard. Ginger moved back to Africa. South Africa? Not sure....

  • Yes, Ginger did move to South Africa, but I am not sure if he still lives there.

  • @zookat For your information Ginger Baker died from a drug overdose shortly after his African trip... In fact he was tripping every day of his life, either on LSD, heroin, speed, grass or what ever he could get his hands on. His drumming was pretty ordinary, a bit one dimensional... But he was famous for his energetic stage performances... when he was sober that is.

Ginger, a short and hectic life... but I know he wouldn't have changed a single day of it... Ask me how I know?

  • @phoenix11994466 How do you know?

  • @zookat I think he still might live there. Rolling Stones did an article on him maybe a year or two ago, and at the time he was still livng there with his African wife.

  • @greenfruitface ginger is still gnarled, cranky and living in south africa

  • Thank You So Much Zookat for this videos. My mum used to tell me about Ginger Baker that he's an AWESOME drummer. Where is Ginger Baker now?

  • aaaah fantastic, thank you. this is great.

    regards

  • For what it's worth, I think the late Rick Wright (of Pink Floyd) played Farfisa organs, early on...

  • WOW, what a wicked song. Did this guys ever release something that could be found on iTunes?

  • zookat: Thanks so much for getting the keyboard answer for me.....and from the person who actually played it! Holy crap, how awesome!!!!! Thank you so much. I have so many questions that I could ask her about the band, Ginger, etc. Thank you so much.....it totally made my day!

  • My pleasure... glad to be of help!

  • See Ginger's son Kofi on Youtube. Fela Ransome Kuti son has his own band as well.

  • This is good!

  • did all these guys make a record?

  • I know he made a record with Fela Kuti, who's a famous Nigerian musician. But you probably knew that.

  • The new version of that cd has an awesome(I don't use that word often) duet with Tony Allen on percussion and G on drums. African Force is also outstanding.

  • Ginger is so unbelieveably awesome, as is the rest of this band.

I LOVE the sound of that keyboard, starting especially at 1:45. Damn.

Can someone tell me what kind it is, and how they get that tone? Is it a Rhodes? Or what?

  • Here's the answer for you straight from the great JONI HAASTRUP, who played that keyboard--

"Thanks for your question regarding the keyboard that I was playing on that video with Ginger and my band. That was a Farfisa organ that I was playing back then but thank you for asking. That was such a long time ago, I had to think hard about it, my goodness, that was almost 40 years ago!!!"

    Thanks Joni!

  • @zookat & @greenfruitface : the organ is a Welson/Halifax duo, close to a Farfisa

  • thank you so much for this is awesome and brilliant

  • Awesome. Just awesome.

  • Heavy Bebop influence in the horns.

It's like Dizzy, Miles, and Bird on acid.

  • Merry Christmas!

  • Thank you!

    Wishing you too...

A Merry Xmas and the very best for you and yours in the coming years!

  • Wow, this is amazing.Actually the guy playing the bass wearing the red tank is none other than famous Nigerian jazz artiste Tunde Kuboye, and he wrote that song that's being performed. I noticed his name wasn't in the credits at the beginning of the video. Anyhow the song is called 'Coming back home'. After this video was shot, the band 'Ginger Baker & Salt' was formed and they toured the 10 German cities & 30 US & Canadian cities. They also performed at the '72 Olympics Jazz Festival Munich

  • anjeldrops, thanks for providing additional information about this footage. Oh yes, I remember Kuboye.

Btw, Johnny Haastrup now resides Calif.

  • haha ginger baker must have a thing for condiments.

    cream, salt L O L

    wow that was bad. ha

  • Wow, not seen this clip before. Ginger Baker is my favourite drummer of all time. He gets such a good groove going.
