@geobeats You could go the golden circle (Gullfoss and Geysir) for the classic tourist. Also note that The Blue Lagoon is not the only geothermal pool in Iceland. For a more local feeling visit one of many geothormal pools in Reykjavík. Most people are very welcoming and chatty, specially the old folks that just love to talk about politics and how things used to be run ;)
Try Kolaportið, a fleamarket and just outside it Bæjarins Bestu (The Best in Town) a great Hod Dog stand.
