This is an underrated Hammer film. I remember watching it when I was 13 back in 2000. It compliments the Horror of Dracula. blood and babes. It doesn't get any better. Though I have to mention Countess Dracula as well
My psych teacher was so cool! He used to talk about how you could tell smart from stupid. Smart goes in broad day light and packs a tank and an uzi! I love these films all the same.
Does anyone feel the the Baron worked for Dracula as a servant then he rewared him by becoming a vampire or is continuing Dracula's legecy as if he were the son of Dracula?
this movie is not too bad..one obvious shortcoming..no CHRISTOPHER LEE, who refused to reprise his HORROR OF DRACULA role here fearing typecasting..so HAMMER used an actor by the name of DAVID PEEL..a definate plus though, PETER CUSHING..best scene..girl being odered out of her fresh grave..hand rising through the dirt..
I know this is a stupid question but wonder where a person could find the soundtrack to this movie? If anyone has any ideas I would appreciate it. Gotta love those Hammer movies.
This was a good movie for that period. Anyway Hammer Production standard quality did not emprove for special effects or technology since 60s. For example we can see how 70s movies production was at the same level of previous 60s for quality of image or special effects. That's why Hammer did not last a long time.
one of my favourite dracula movies. you can't beat the eerie atmosphere enhanced by the scary music. terrified as a kid watching this, especially when the coffin opens.
@PlusSizeAngel, it's showing on British tv right now. You've a very HORRIFIC page. Nice. I know you're in Finland. What's your name?. I'm Andy from Liverpool England
Maybe they should have put together another movie involving the Count's cult of devoted disciples before bringing back the evil Monarch of vampires himself. What if Baron Meinster wasn't truly conquered by Van Helsing. And what if Hammer would have given Christopher Lee more to say and do as Dracula in these films. Yes I agree. Peter Cushing was the all time best Doctor Van Helsing compared to other actors who played Dracula's greatest foe.
Does anyone remember a Dracula movie where he had various vampire brides and the brides eyes were completely black? I remember it came on WDCA channel 20 or Wjla channel seven during horror week in the early 80's ....it was an awesome dracula movie. Not sure if it was a Hammer film though.
Perhaps the best film from Hammer. I love the colour photography, the dialogue, fairytale Transylvania... everything! Cushing is best Van Helsing - they should have done more films with Cushing as Van Helsing - and although Marianne has no brain, her gorgeousness - those 19th century outfits - and her innocence make perfect Gothic heroine.
THIS is how you do a vampire movie. Or just any good movie, in general. I was 8 years old when I first saw this movie. It was in Kherson, Ukraine and I saw it with my mom at night. She fell asleep so I ended up watching it alone. Man, I was scared but I couldn't turn off the TV. It was that damn good!
Because one of the major ethnic groups in Romania/Transylvania are the German Saxons.Transylvania has a very broad ethnic mix, including Slavs,Germans,Greeks, gypsies, and many others like the Szeklers and Magyar tribes.
Great film. But what I don`t get is that the man bars the door to prevent whomever is in that coach from entering the Inn, and then says that he must open it !
@ChainsmokingPothead CGI, PG-13, Moral Guardians, Executive Meddling, and the occasional fast food and/or toymaking company that wanted to cash-in on the "next big hit". I know, sad.
I saw this movie when I was 11. That night, I closed all the windows in my room, took down the cross over my bed and held it in my hands while breaking out in a cold sweat! This on a hot August night!
I absolutely love this film but i can not stand that french (i think) lead actress...she is absolutely terrrible. Throughout the whole film i am just wishing someone would kill her.
original? about half of the hammer films are remakes lol this was there version of universals draculas daughter ,but im not arguing i love hammer films grew up on these bad boys lol
I always did prefer these hammer horror films rather than the cheesey american ones. Christopher lee is the best actor in the world to play dracula. well in my opinion of course.
What I love about these films is the warning of "Don't go near the castle" by the coach drivers locals etc. And they still persist in going just before sundown. Why the hell they don't go around 12 noon have a good look around before he gets up and then bugger off
@niceone1100 no no you are wrong..you dont understand....
in these place of the world..in winter days are short..sun sets fast, and the other thing is that at 12 o clock the traffic is too much so there wont be carts available...you see? the girls's parents couldnt get a carriage soon because it was on a hire, and they had to wait, and the other thing is jerneys are quite long and takes lot of time, so you never have a sun for the whole jerney
@niceone1100 Actually, that's what MOST people do. Horror movies usually show the wrong end of the bell curve, though. Honestly, anyone with a three-digit IQ would kill the Monster, solve the riddle and get the treasure before lunch, then spend the rest of the day trying to get the girl, too ;-)
But ask yourself this - how fun would it be to watch a movie where the cast does exactly the right and clever and smart thing to do? It wuld be over in fice minutes.

One of the most overlooked aspects of the Hammer Films is the music. In my opinion, the Hammer Films were superior to most of the Universal films. Peter Cushing's Van Helsing is the standard and most have fallen far short in duplicating the role.

coolcelt - Re. " blood and gore" vs. "suspense and terror" -
I'm not sure Hammer movies really make the point you want them to: by the standards of their time were pushing the envelope on gore and violence, outraging many critics and other guardians of taste, and running into constant trouble with the censors. Hammer isn't exactly the opposite of today's gorefests - to an extent, they helped create them by upping the ante on screen violence.

This was one of my favorite movies when I was a teenager. I haven't seen it in ages. I really like the vampire Gina. I watched this movie again last night thanks to you & liked it as much as ever. Thank you very much for uploading this!
Does anyone else remember when the Sci-Fi Channel used to show these old classics and other like Bela Lugosi's Dracula, Klaus Kinski's Nosferatu, Chris Lee's Horror of Dracula, and others?
This movie is from a time when a lot of movies where really very very good and had some substance to them and didn't always rely on excessive amounts of gore and splatter.
Man this brings back those Friday Nights when AMC was at its peak and showed some high quality horror films. They dont do that anymore for some reason.

I never liked Christopher Lee as Dracula. He looked like somebody's dad dressed up in a vampire costume. He didn't have any sex appeal at all.
David Peel had lots of sex appeal. Or sex a Peel. lol. He was handsome, sexy, intelligent, witty, etc. He could bite me any day. Or night I mean. lol.
Why didn't Peel get top billing with Peter Cushing? His name was WAY far down in the credits, as if he were some minor character. Strange.
