  • both have the sx and MIM have the aweful dog whistle pitch.. pickups shouldnt ever sound that way in any guitar unless you turn up the treble and gain.. buy some giovannis gcs1s and balance it out.. only a few buck more that the gfs

  • the sx was better and not so poppey and tinney sounding...the mex wasent bad

  • After listening to both... I really ca't tell much difference. What do you think personally? IS the sx as good as the MIM?

  • Dude exactly what i have a SX strat clone but i sold the neck, sand it down... so i can build it back from scratch this time with rosewood neck anyway you got to give me some of your details cause i dont know about the body it might give the tone an ugly vibe with certain settings anyway cool video

  • I cant be sure but that sounded like a shit load of work as those bodies have so much ploy I have heard of guys dipping the body in a varnish remover used by Furniture refinishers to get that coating off. They say the Nitro lets the wood resonate better and inproves the sound qualtiy. If that were the case why not just stain it? There are so many different elements that contribute to sound that very from one to guitar to another that pointing out the paint seems like a crazy argument.

  • Awesome Nitro lacquer i'll read up on that that want to get the best sound out of it ... ya there is quite a bit of work to be done haven't really started except sanding a few layers... but necks are expensive right anyway this would be a project that would be done hopefully in the end of the day i could sell it for a bit more who knows :P thanks anyway

  • Hey...nice comparison. I've got some of those Bare Knuckle Sinner pickups in my deluxe strat. They are pretty hot. 21.5k bridge and 15k for the neck and mid. I'm thinking of replacing my 250k pots with 500's, but my luthier says it'll increase the treble/highs to much. What do you think I should do? Just looking for opinions.

  • IT will make it brighter, but keep in mind you can't make a generality it depends on the body wood the fretboard wood. Scale and pickup height. Also the type of amp, music you want to play. For me I want my guitar to cut through the mix and have a precense. Many times with high gaqin pickups the distortion can muddy the sound cut the level and the guitar wont cut through. If I have a higher output pickup I use 500k Pots.

  • The mexican has more of the Strat in it imo, although both sound good. Remember to count in the price of the work done with the sx.

  • I have the SX LTD also plus a half dozen assorted SX guitars. I installed Giovanni GCS-1's on my LTD and really like it plus vintage bridge with steel block from guitarfetish. I have the 500K pots also but will install 250K for a little warmer sound. I also have a MIM and a American '62 vintage reissue and prefer the playability of the SX over the Fender's.

  • sx with the installed pickups sounds like a fender strat with a tubescreamer slightly boosting the signal. the sx will probably distort more easily. fender stock pickups are pretty weak.

  • Mex sounds like the SX with the tone knob rolled down! Wow... this is absolute proof that we pay for what's on the headstock!

    SX here I come.

  • Tell Ken Nick Sent someone over enjoy the axe

  • I know this is a late response but the brightness is caused from the 500k pots. If you put them in the Mex strat it would be a better comparison. The amp was probably set with the treble down because of the SX guitar having 500k pots.

  • Actually the GFS have a stronger output so for me 500k pots are necessary to cut through the mix. Sometimes overwound pickups can be dark and muddy 500k pots brighten it up. the amp setting stayed the same for both guitars.

  • Mexi sounded a little better, but nothing that a pickup change, and maybe a new nut and bridge couldnt fix. And even then, you are probably about half the price for a very nice guitar. With fender, part of what you pay is for the name. come on, its a fender! If rondo music even tried to sell SX strats for what mexi strats go for, they wouldnt sell any b/c people would rather get a fender.

  • oh how right you are, me!

  • Yeah but for new pickups a bridge and nut you have yourself an American Stratocaster. Im just saying if your on a severe budget and can't afford a $400 MIM this thing can be your axe and still sound damn go for $250..

  • gfs makes these jimi hendrix exp pickups right now. i heard they are tight

  • I'm not sure I understand they wired it so you would have the same string to pickup contact as a right handed playing a lefty strung up right handed if that amke sense to you. I understand some of the way Jimi sounded hand to do with the righty strung lefty, I think it crap all those pickups back than were hand wound so its almost impossible to duplicate with out taking one apart. save the cash.

  • the mexi has a warmer ,less tinny sound personally speaking.the sx sounds decent but too thin in the highs.and it sounds like a ringing buzz occasionally on the slides...but what do i know?? cant beat the price, but you do get what you pay for.

  • WOW i hate tyo say it but i prefered the SX. Hotter tone yet still warms up nicely. Plus its like $300 cheaper to boot! Fenders might be great but you gotta go with your ears on this one. I could care less if the guitar was made in Haiti by two naked Hatians! If its built right and sounds good u got a winner! BTW GFS pickups are awesome.

  • They both sound beautiful.

  • A Fender is a Fender is a Fender. You can always upgrade the pickups on the Fender and it will be a better Fender. Change out the Tuners to American Standard ones (not an easy job). Drop in a Floyd Rose. It's even a better Fender. Next: Goldplate the neck. It's even better now. Next: get Jimmy Vaughn to buy it from you. Now it's a better Fender for sure. On the otherhand, as far as the SX goes:you can make Chinese food taste like Cajun food with the right spices...but it's still Chinese food.

  • still the mexicans are way better some of the cheapest guitars are made there plus they have better craftsmanship

  • it's chinese though... Mexi Strat :)

  • Don't forget the price is almost $200 less witha Hard Case. Cant beat that. Thanks

  • Ace playing mate. I would have to go with the SX on this clean test the sound in my opinion is much warmer and sounds aside is a beauty.
