  • Hahaha I found it on the Apparatjik site!! :D:D

  • hahaha! Is this some kind of Aprils fools gadget? Pixel painter my ass!

The paint some green goo on there like a GreenScreen and use that as a mask or whatever. C'mon ... pixelpainter XD

  • It's like magic. :D Awesome.

  • same pixel idea-Hey i did mona lisa for the upcoming post it note contest- 40 hours and 12,000 post it notes- check it out and please vote!!Thanks

  • So is can i buy this at walmart?

  • its much the same as a desktop printer...as long as you use a specific motion. Up and Down for example, it can be quite accurate like above. I dont think it's possible to just paint where you want though, i think that would be confusing for the program used.

Either way this is very cool, image if you want to paint your walls with a specific pattern you find on the net...paint it on, then inverse the pattern and use a different colour and you will have some relaly cool results.

  • i dont understand?

  • i think the basics of this are: Plug laptop into a roller which process's the data and allows paint only to be distributed according to the image on the laptop. Basically a manual printer!

The program they used will probably have coordinates (if you listen carefully, one time the guy at the laptop says"dont go to far down") the coordinates allow the pixels of the image to be distributed evenly in the area and viuala! lol hope this helped

  • sweet

  • OHH MAN WHEN IM OUT BOMBING FUCK CANS taking a jar of paint (little one) a roller inside my pants and a laptop in my back pack :X

  • not following you? :s

  • what ?

  • i dont understand what your previous comment means!!!

  • it means when im out bombing(doing graffiti not a mural just fast pieces) instead of a spray can ill just use one of these pixel rollers

  • ohright, great...well lol sounds like an expensive but effective tool...what about developing a airbrush/spray can version of this...set a laptop up and type dimensions of the image you want to create...load up different colours and it paints it for you. On the other hand, graffiti is an art technique so i dont know lol...sorry for the confusion!

  • Haha, cool.

  • que ciencia tiene esto no entiendo pero igual esta padre que se forme la carita

  • thats sooo cool im asking for 1 for christmas...

  • sweeet

  • Listen up. The ONLY way to know if it's fake is if you recorded the video or attended that. So, unless you had anything to do with it just SHUT UP! Whether it's real or not cannot be known by just seeing the video. GOD!

  • real

  • i want one!!

  • Actually this isn't fake. I saw this device in action at Nextfest 06 at the Javits Center in NY.

  • did you actually attend this? how on gods fucking earth do u know its fake?

  • Stop saying its fake..its like a printer..it keeps memory o where it is and prints..

  • wow nice technology!! very interesting stuff

  • huh? guess we dont need artists anymore?

  • We'll always need artists. Perhaps one day we'll get artificial life that competes with us on every scale - but it is a tool, like a paint brush or photoshop. You still need the artist behind the technology to create.

  • couldn't agree with poga7 more.

  • wow that is really awesome was it just a trick or real?

  • the roller is plugged into a computer

  • gracias por explicarlo

  • cool gadget!

  • SCARY Woody Allen

  • it looks like my uncle!

  • Your right! it does look like your uncle! =oO

  • its so woody allen

  • what an artist!!!!

  • its john lennon u twats :P

  • COOL!!!

    It's a man's face!

  • I think it's the face of Mr. W. Allen, isn't it?

  • Oh Koolness!

  • what were they trying to make? i think it was a man..

  • meh

  • omg that was sooo freakin cool

  • no it's not, he's just rubbing on top of a relief.

  • the roller is pluged into the computer to make it like that

  • Buddy Holly?

  • get a life you retard and learn what google is

  • whoa! awesome

  • Cool! Thumbs up!

  • where can i get one???...

  • that's a cool concept all togeher.

  • To those who keep saying "fake": Google it dip-shits...

Also, it's not that hard to figure out how it works if you look at some of the photos it has done (outside this site). Still, it was quite a nice idea, and I'm sure the makers will find some practical uses for this. 5 stars!

  • stupid fag, get a life, if you ge that much a month i'm sure you arent getin it from posting spam here.

  • Your grandma is fake. I saw this with my own eyes at the Royal College of Art. Boyalxewo knows this too.

  • HA HA HA HA HA your grandma is fake, that is a fucking class say. 10*!! and a thumbs up!!

  • haha.. i saw this exhibition myself at the Royal College of Art. Nothing fake about it. It just translates the pixelized image to the computerized paint roller..

  • you tell em buddy ^.^

  • how....how is this occurring?

  • de teile sind geil kosten bis zu tausend euro

  • like sputnik on a toothpick, right?

  • i dont get it.

  • that is pretty sweet

  • Isn't it Woody Allen?

  • i think elvis costello

  • its a boy look , he got glasses and everything

  • That's so funny, I was thinking of doing that last week!

  • Paper pressed on to wet paint drawing?

  • rad but too bad they painted some emo kid

  • i think its a self portrait. anyways its way cool

  • ya ya rad. i need plans and schematics.

  • Are you sure that he's not just rolling on blue or green paint that is being used as a screen for a computer-generated graphic, like in a newsroom? Is there a website for this new printer? Or perhaps a news article about it? Sorry to be a skeptic, but...

  • Nevermind, I looked it up and this is a real invention. Things like this are inspiring, and they show how creative and intelligent the human mind can be. Well done!

  • officially whoa

  • boring!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

  • Controlled by a computer. Ah, I see. I was wondering why someone couldn't just paint a mural. Is it an art exhibit or something? By the way, whoever comments on my video 'The Diary of Horace Kettlebaum' will get a reward. You may not realize it at first, but u will get it. :)

  • can`t they just glue a poster .

  • why they dont just print it?

  • ???

  • what amazing paint.

    Cheers.

    from,

    del-boy.

  • What amazing paint? That amazing paint.

  • What an amazing device that thing surely seems to be !

    .

    Better?

    cheers.

    from,

    del-boy.

    .

  • Seems like another noisy widget we don't need.

  • Dear al.,

    Thank you for you response.

I am biased in favour, because I have a stain on my kitchen ceiling, that has come from upstairs; and wishing the stain bannised the device seemed like an easy solution -may be not.

    .

    Cheers.

    from,

    del-boy.

    .

  • Huh??

  • Hmmm. I want one of these. I mean, I REALLY, REALLY want one of these. Can I have one?

    -- Claude S.

  • Clever.... but what is it meant to be?

  • What? Shut up you moron. The 'about this video' merely states what the technology is - not what it is making a picture of. Get your facts straight before you start calling people dumbasses... dumbass.

  • COOL

  • Well done men, Creativity onwards...

  • theres something behind the paper (stecil or something) thats making the paint do that

  • woody allen is a child molester.

  • HAhaha, I didn't understand what they were doing. But then I started to see the face, and was like whoaa!

    So yeah, That's cool.

  • reminds me of a printer

  • LOLZ

  • whoa, thats really cool

  • wth thats weird

  • Dont know anything about this being blagged or true- but i see its potential. It looks good and i want to see more please! P

  • HAHAHAHA:D youre funny squeeqeeboy ...but this thing is for reals real...i believe in technology ...can do that and more

  • Anyone can turn white snow yellow. All you need is a husky.

  • next at the start please note 2 things, tape holding canvas in place (bottom right) and big crease running through the middle caused by the tape. now go to .34 seconds and watch. As they push the canvas on the wall, the crease is magically stuck to wall, ironed out. I.E paint on the wall is holding the canvas in place.

  • random-international.squarespace. com/pixelroller-overview/

  • Im sorry, but it winds me up that people think this is real. The paint is on the wall behind the canvas, which is just being pushed onto the paint. proof? first ask, why are they painting onto canvas and not the wall?

  • its real, I know these guys. they paint onto a roll of paper because it is in an exhibition space and it allows them to do more than one painting. paper it also more absorbant.

the pixels on the roller (hence the name) is controlled digitally by the laptop on the left.

not everything is a conspiracy and a lie.

  • srry but im more interested on the guy on the left with a drill

  • That's so cool.

  • Sounds like you owe yourself a life entirely, not just a small portion of it. You couldve said "great potential as a rental for a home project." but what a waste of time that would be, silly of u really, using your brain and all..

  • It's just a pixel bot built onto a cylinder. Seriously.

Research your shit before you go making huge claims.

It works by moving little blocks in and out depending on the way the roller is rotated. The wire is hooked up to the laptop which is running the program to correlate rotation and block position.

  • Hey man,

I understand that completely. What confuses me is how would it know its previous position if it was lifted from the surface, moved, and re-applied? That is probably the only question that remains. that and... why do the images look so tacky, as in not color-correct. I'd love to see it do an actual landscape.

  • eat it hombre.

  • its just like using a pencil and shading a paper over a coin...you get the popping-out bits.

  • that is pretty cool

  • Yeah I get it - Thanks for explaining :-)

  • hay ill touch your sister in laws boobs if you want no prob and ill do it for free lol

  • lol thats true japanese ppl are pretty smart..some of them can teleport every place they want!!!the best of them is raccoon nammed Pikacho dont fuck with Japan or they will come to ur own house and beat u with shining swords

  • lol funny but so fake! its just a clicking paint roller going over an impression behind a sheet, think brass rubbing. Still good clip though!

  • Why do you think they are fake have you touched them?

  • I believe my sister-in-law's boobs are fake.

  • I can remember seeing this on the gadget show on channel 5 a while back, pretty cool!

  • ya, you can tell its not fake. you can hear the clicks from the roller as its applying the paint. its legit.

  • oops double post :S

  • Does it do abstract too ;) cool

  • I'm geussing the way it's done is by using a very accurate locating sensor in combination with something like a tilt sensor, so that the roller knows both were on the wall it is and at wich angle it is.

  • I'm geussing the way it's done is by using a very accurate locating sensor in combination with something like a tilt sensor, so that the roller knows both were on the wall it is and at wich angle it is.

  • no rely it IS fake, its a pretty obvious artist technique called a wax resist the paint will only apply its self to the area of paper where wax has not been applied, i mean come on people did you not do this at school???

  • yea that works too but it's not matrix...that would have taken a long time to do buy hand with wax

  • I've also seen this at the V&A. It's pretty cool.

  • your moms a pixel roller

  • lol

  • Its no template because the paint would go everywhere not just where the template is. with the tech we have now this is quite possible.

  • That is actually quite cool! But how is the paint fed to the brush? Is it by the pipe? Still. this completely changes the meaning of decorating - could you imagine going to a hardware store and saying hmm, what colour should I paint a woody allen image on my wall today - brilliant! (sorry bit over excited there) ;-)

  • oh my god screw you

  • Come on, it's just a blue screen!

  • It's amazing how much people think something is fake when they don't understand it. This technology isn't even that new. It just hasn't caught on yet.

  • is that woody allen?

  • chakaness

  • Wow.

  • What's the point?

  • Are you serious?

  • New product?

    how much?

    I need.

  • How does it keep track of position ?

  • ZOMGZ IT"S THE FUTURE!!

  • @KakoiDedikuSan

...You're kidding right? It's basically a printer on a stick. It's so silly to see people who know nothing come and try to disprove things for no reason. Look at their website next time.

  • Ron Paul 2008

  • why would someone want a woody allen on their wall, never mind one that over 5 foot tall

  • The pez dispencer was a better invention.

  • GAY JUST USE A PRINTER!

  • Completely fake - notice he draws the color from only one source; in this particular Woody Allen abstract there are at least 15-20 different shades of red...you can't get that sort of dimensional effect without adding other colors to highlight and shadow, no matter what technology you have.

  • What is it with you people and your attempt to disprove anything and everything you can't personally do? The camera is far enough away so where while each pixel will be one shade of read, it is easy to manipulate light and dark via density of said pixels. Look real closely at an advertising billboard or an old comic book and you'll see what I mean by that.

  • I know what you're talking about - so you're telling me that up-close it will just be some tacky collage of several color spheres from the color wheel??

  • i think it looks like they just ran out of colour in the end...

it just gets lighter, doesn't it?

  • It's an illusion...they're basically rolling over a relief-style 3d image of Woody Allen to to get a dimensional image on the paper. It's not the roller that's doing the work - as I stated you cannot draw that many shades from one source....

  • God you're an idiot. It's just a pixel bot built onto a cylinder. Seriously.

Research before you go making huge claims.

It works by moving little blocks in and out depending on the way the roller is rotated. The wire is hooked up to the laptop which is running the program to correlate rotation and block position.

  • what they probably did is just made a slightly raised 3d image behind the paper and ran the roller over it. kinda like when you copy a penny by putting a paper on it and rubbing it with a pencil.

  • u guys are retarded who dont get it, the wall behind it and the thing hanging down the paper work with the roller to print a 2d image only in certain 3d area such as the wall of a room, props!

  • i dnt get it...

  • that was dumb i have just wasted one minute and forty seconds and i am pissed

  • Hey whoah, a face!
