  • the best video on youtube

  • Well, everything's wonderful but, is't it awesome from 0:37 to 0:50? How could Mozart make it seem so easy? Someone could tell me: "No! That's really easy!" Well, show me just one work of any other musician with a change from one part to other so melodious, so natural! It's great! By the way, this Mehta's version is overwhelming!

  • I love when they show Zubin Mehta conducting the orchestra.

  • 3:37

    Ildiko, I love you !

  • grandios

  • 5:52 to 6:23 KILLS ME!!!!!

  • Sexy and tall Thomas Hampson :)

  • Malgré les détracteurs

Cette version "Fortissimo" est très belle

  • ma il tempo dei cantanti? °_°

  • orchestra fortissimo,nessuna eleganza e non voglio parlare dei cantanti...viva la mediocrita,la mediocrita,la mediocrita...da bravi via urlate...

  • Do they finally work it out?? :O "blahablahabalahaabkl!" lol...

  • Thomas Hampson is not singing anymore, he tends to shout more or less. Furlanetto: never forget he was KARAJAN'S Leporello 20 years ago. The lesson lives on. The rest is tolerable. We are quite far from the ideal Don Giovanni. The only positive note: the Vienna Philharmonic. They play everything as if they were playing scrabble or drinking a glass of water. Hampson is however definitely overrated. No problem: he was like than 15 years ago so no doubt today he might be even worse

  • Mr. Furlanetto, you are as fantastic as ever!

  • Absolutely....unlike Mr Hampson...

  • It is indeed nice to know that someone else besides me thinks that Mr. Hampson is overrated! I heard him on New Year's Eve...painful to lisdten to.

  • Ferruccio Furlanetto= Amazing!!!!!

  • 3:37 - 3:41

    wunderful Edita !

  • it makes me drunken

  • muy bien me gusta

  • GRAN OPERA

  • Edita Gruberova reminds of the lady in Murder she Wrote..I forget her name...Mrs Potts

  • Angela Lansbury you mean? I see that a bit too! Both very talented ladies :)

  • Gives my goosebumps goosebumps. If I had enough hair, it would stand on end by the thrill of this.

  • Mozart had a gift which come once in a millenium. This is tremendous musc.

  • All the way great!

  • According to the great yet historically incorrect movie Amadeus

  • mozart dwarfs all musicians. the mount everest of melody

  • This is terrific.

  • I don't really like Thomas Hampson. He doesn't really stick to the notes the whole time, and the times he chooses to do things like that aren't the right ones. Other than that, this is great! Definitely the greatest opera ever written, in my opinion.

  • Yeah, I agree about Hampson...maybe the best out of the US in a while, but not really A list.

  • Surely, alongside that in Cosi, the most complex and yet sublime ensemble ever written

  • I can never quite decide which of the three operas is the greatest. In a way, I hear them as one work.

  • Ildiko Raimondi it is a maqnifique soprano with a perfect vocal tecnique

  • Don Giovanni is the essence of Mozart, and thus, perfection. All other music must bow before this opera.

  • Yeah, I totally agree. 'Don Giovanni' is the most astounding feat in all music.

  • same for me, first music of our occidental soul

  • Don Giovanni is the essence of our world.

  • many thanks all them !!

    wolfgangerl

  • fantastic!

  • This is a wonderful combo of voices!

  • I like sights of the orchestra which looks like waves ( like 2mn 12)

  • I like the sight with the orchestra which looks like waves ( about 2.20)

  • I love the picture around 2.50. Taken from the back. Everyone is about the same height and then Thomas Hampson is heads above the rest.

  • Absolutely perfect

  • A bit stiff. But great voices, nevertheless!

  • atto 1, scena 21, scena 22

  • well i think mehta is really good but the tempo in this last bit is too fast, no wonder the stretto doensnt work properly!

  • I like Furlanetto as Leporello. Hampson is too wagnerian to my taste.

  • What do you mean by Wagnerian?

  • i wanted to buy Don Giovanni at motherfucking barnes and noble or something but it was 53 dollars so screw that, die zauberflote was like 23 dollars - and it was the best recording of it ever with klemplerer

  • LOL .... ease up on the "french". The Magic Flute was the first Opera I ever bought and listened to in full, and it's still one of my absolute favourites. I don't think you got the worst of that deal! :)

  • That's not French. It's either Italian or German.

  • LOL ... I meant "french" about his swearing. Must be just a British idiom.

  • Oh.

  • @roguegirl29 Italien!!!

  • Where can I download/buy the whole opera from? This performance in particular.

  • Cacophonous...

  • its definatly the old crew singing here, but theyre all still quite good really, and even though everybody is crizising hampson, he's still got an extremely full voice (and its sounds fine most of the time he wouldnt) otherwise he wouldnt be able to sing wagner!!

  • OMG! I used to have such a crush on Hampson and Furlanetto! :-)

  • I still have a crush on Hampson and I'm 43.

  • Which recording is this?

  • This is great! Better than most of the sorry Don Giovanni youtube videos out there!

  • I don't think I've heard a voice age has been kinder to than Edita Gruberova. She still sounds great. Hampson and Furlanetto sound phenomenal together whenever they're in sync. Makes me really, really want to get to the Met for Boccanegra this season.

  • I have heard far better, but this is pretty good. The very end is a bit slower than I like.
