She comes from the same well that brought us Leonard Cohen and Don McLean. She is tapped into the 'creative flow' which you will recognise if you're a scientist, painter, musician or anyone who is creative. It is when you are 'the tool' and something bigger flows through you. Paul Simon talked about it on a radio interview a while back. James Clerk Maxwell, the father of electromagnetism also talked about it. That is why people are so entranced. It is the collective consciousness we share.
She needs work, she's always unsure which tone or voice to use when performing live. Her performances always end up awkward, it's like she's struggling with tourettes or multiple personalities.
@bdon616 - No, I'm quite certain she's on the autistic spectrum, Asperger's Syndrome to be exact. The mannerisms, the awkwardness and the 'thousand yard stare' are all traits of it. I too have Asperger's and it takes one to know one. We probably won't find out if she is for sure because there's no motivation for a diagnosis because she is happy and having success. I hope she continues to be happy and does well because I'm convinced she is an aspie. It's a lonely road.
Tbh, i've listened a lot of Lana Del Rey these past few days and ive come to terms that she sounds better in a studio. Dont get me wrong, i love the weirdness/madness of this performance. But she sounds so much when shes not under pressure of being live.
@CharleyJeon - I posted a reply to someone else. She is most likely Asperger's. I am too and I spotted it the first time I saw her. Someone else on another video also noticed it and we both laughed because so far, we're the only ones to see that she's probably autistic spectrum. Takes one to know one.
I dont know what it is... Her performances aren't crisp but its like listening to pure ART. The rawness of it all mixed with sensuality and passion... its all so beautiful and it feels REAL. ... I'm now a fan.
wow! so so annoying that the sound quality is so poor... amazing version. before this live version of Trash was my fave... probably still is. (there is only so much crackle i can repeatedly hear). but WOW!
@beachgirlhunter LOL. No -- I was just imagining in my li'l head. A prediction. You like the image I painted? Hopefully the whole SNL thing would have died by then. :)
@mhartemusic No. Just my imagination. :) I do hope she does someday, though. Or the VMA's at least. Anything, as long as there's an orchestra backing her up...and her vocals are sturdier.
I can't decide if I love her singing voice or her speaking voice the best. What an amazing and unique individual. Can't get enough, gonna make a playlist. :P
This song is one of her most overlooked and I don't see why. Off To The Races is a stellar performance! For me, I love it because its the most wild of all her songs and I really didn't think she had it in her. It surprised me when I first saw it. Love it.

her mentality seems so afflicted, I don't even know what emotion she's ever feeling, I feel like she's mad and thrilled at the same time.
