Im listening to this as a single guy on valentine's day, and it is making me nostalgic. But feeling the love nether the less, my valentine is the music.
I really wish she could have overcome herself.. We would have been so privileged to hear more from her. But seriously!! The talent and look she has curves!!!! And when she is singing it looks so natural and effortless for her!

I've said this on other videos, but it was so amazing how she had this near-effortless ability to pluck any note out of the air as if she was gathering flowers. I loved how she didn't pick the easy-to-listen to notes, and how she sang between notes. She dumbed down neither the lyrics, nor the style, nor the phrasing of her work to get it on the radio. Though she may have be afraid of other things in her life, she was absolutely fearless when it came to her music. Period.
@MD5 I so agree. As to her lyrics, they're brilliant. The refrain in Wake Up Alone is awash in the most amazing, sustained water imagery. The rhyme scheme of Love Is a Losing Game is sublime in its stripped down simplicity. And what better expression of being pursued by demons is there than "ooo it's bricked up in my head, and it's shoved under my bed" ? Simply incredible songwriting. Then there's her jaw-dropping musicality and unmistakable voice.

I caught this performance only last weekend on a Palladium rerun from 2004, and I had never heard this tormented angel's voice before. But it was love at first note, and I've since devoured everything of hers I could find. Amy was soul filled. She possessed and was possessed by a spirit of song so few will ever experience. For the juveniles who use forums as this to judge her, fear not. It could never happen to you because you'll never wrestle the demons this precious, gifted girl faced.

I actually like this version it's funky with just her vocals and the guitar. You know the guitarist is feelin it. (lol) It saddens me that she like so many before her who have passed on because they couldn't overcome their demons. She was so talented and my heart goes out to her family & close friends who knew the real her before all the drugs & mayhem.
What a contrast with her later performances. When she was drunk she would sing off key with a rough voice from smoking crack and cigarettes, spit or throw down the microphone. Here you see the shy English schoolgirl, pudgy and with a big smile. Look at the way she nervously shrugs and her voice even cracks with uncertainty when she announces the song title. It was her insecurity that fueled her addictions. If she'd hadn't got so famous and met that arshole boyfriend, she would've been fine.

Great video, if anyone ever doubted her class because they only looked at what became of het later, please see this video. There are many more like this. She was a greatt artist, but mayby to young to be able to cope with all the fame an d all the creativity she had.

I actually like this version it's funky with just her vocals and the guitar. You know the guitarist is feelin it. (lol) It saddens me that she like so many before her who have passed on because they couldn't overcome their demons. She was so talented and my heart goes out to her family & close friends who knew the real her before all the drugs & mayhem.

What a contrast with her later performances. When she was drunk she would sing off key with a rough voice from smoking crack and cigarettes, spit or throw down the microphone. Here you see the shy English schoolgirl, pudgy and with a big smile. Look at the way she nervously shrugs and her voice even cracks with uncertainty when she announces the song title. It was her insecurity that fueled her addictions. If she'd hadn't got so famous and met that arshole boyfriend, she would've been fine.

@musikenergy I'm with you, and others, regarding the "pudgy' remark. These ridiculously unnatural expectations of women's bodies have to stop. Amy was a young adult woman in this video, not a teenaged boy. She looked great!

She was bigger here and was wearing a heavy overshirt, so I picked the first word that came to mind. Maybe because her face still had so much cute, youthful baby fat. I'm an Amy Winehouse fan. She was very attractive, and I've basically got a post-mortem crush on her. So pick any word you like: buxom, robust, fleshy, voluptuous, curvy, zaftig. Am I forgiven now?

@pape37 It looks as though there are more than three of us now, so maybe we had a point? :-) But yes, you're forgiven. Just know that "pudgy" is a loaded and pejorative word. It's clear from your other comments that you think well of Amy and I don't think you meant any offense. If our replies mean you'll think twice about using "pudgy" in future, though, they've served a purpose. For future reference, "voluptuous" is a much more positive word, a better choice.
Ah language. It's a minefield. :-)

Great video, if anyone ever doubted her class because they only looked at what became of het later, please see this video. There are many more like this. She was a greatt artist, but mayby to young to be able to cope with all the fame an d all the creativity she had.
