  • Chess Records and Sun Records, the most legendary record labels in music.

  • LOOK UP WHO DO YOU LOVE TRAILER

  • Am I the only one that thinks Adrian Brody is sexy?!

  • ...I THINK ELVIS IS OK.....BUT YES HE'S THE KING....THE KING OF THIEVES....Everybody knows this

  • director looks creepy

  • this is the most fucked up portrayal of great chicago musicians and also chess brothers fucker who made the movie did not do his homework

  • Respond to this video... Why is there so much contention over who the king of rock and roll is. Muddy Waters is without a doubt the king of the blues. Elvis is the king of rock and roll. Get over it. It took both black and white to make rock and roll. Elvis happened to have what it took to make the world take notice. Hence he is the king. Thank you... end of debate.

  • @riffraffactual Sorry , debate open again.. I think Willie Dixon is equally a king of the blues , since he wrote most of Muddy Waters material and played bass on it.... Chuck Berry also deserves a crown beside Elvis as a pioneer on rock and roll.

  • If you agree with me, I do believe that they should make a movie for the following people. Of whom I would consider as legends of blues/jazz. They mold the modern era of music and many of them are now part of history.

Ella Fitzgerald, Nat King Cole, Frank Sinatra, Nina Simone, Doris Day, Dusty Springfield, Bobby Darin, Nancy Sinatra...

Most of them belong to the same era.

If only one movie was able to link them all up.(but finding anyone who would be able to sing like Ella and Simone is hard)

  • Though I see some similarities between the two, seeing as which both Cadillac Records and Dreamgirls are based off of simliar true stories (Dreamgirls is based off of the Supremes and Mowtown) one thing to keep in mind creative licence was used to make everything interesting and flow better, but they are two different things and cannot be looked at together.

  • Great historic movie about the music and biz behind it! Ironic that after that ad, the 1st scene is a guy recording folk music for the the library of congress [GOVT-FDR-New Deal]

  • Worst Casting ever. Etta was no where near Beyonce when she recorded that song. They should have had Jennifer Hudson do this role.

  • @daredsmith what?!?!?!!? the casting was amazing!!

the guy who played howlin wolf was amazing!

and MOS DEF WAS THE PERFECT CHUCK BERRY!!

what were you saying? etta is not on beyonce's level or beyonce is not on etta's level?

  • There are a lot of stories to be told about the birth of Rock and roll. This is one of them. One person, one race did not invent it. It was mylti race/ethnic. White, Latino, black, all were there.

Let's not forget than many artists of different races and ethnic groups had their rights taken from them. Including the Beatles and Rolling Stones.

  • What are you talking about? Rock & Roll (originally used as a slang "to have sex" in the black community) was created by black people. They were the first to combine the blues, gospel, r&B, country etc. to form the sounds of rock & roll. Even The Rolling Stones got their name from one of muddy waters' song...The Beatles, Led Zeppelin, Johnny Cash, even Elvis Presley, gave their respects to the creaters. Just image how big Chuck Berry would have been if he was white.

  • Black country?

Chess records, the inspiration for Cadillac records was founded in 1956. Two years after Bill Haley & His Comets made Rock around the clock.

"Rock 'n' roll was an evolutionary process we just looked around and it was here.... To name any one record as the first would make any of us look a fool."

Muddy was blues, Haley was country, both artists pushed their genere to something new. Just like thousands of other pioneers.

  • Be proud of your heritage, but don't deny others theirs.

Stones, Elvis, Zepplin did give credit to the blues roots of Rock and Roll. Muddy was a blues-rock pioneer. Just like there were country-rock pioneers. Add Gospel, folk music, bluegrass, r&b, throw it out there for the people to bend and shape, and there you have it.

Chess records was ONE of the pioneers. There are so many stories in Rock and Roll.

  • @deceebee man you got it right there. this revision on history is not good. Rock and roll DID NOT come STRAIGHT out of the blues or mostly from one or even a few men.buy no means. By the way Gospel is a bigger contributor than people think. Watch chuck berry's movie on rock and roll! He said it ,little richard said it, elvis said it ,jerry lee lewis grew up in it and so on.

  • Watch Sexier Fat Ass Black Babes @ utubeblack d-o-t Com!-)

  • Also no sht dreamgirls was similar they were made about record labels at the same time with black artists so what a genius you are to put the 2 together and realize the two movies delt with some of the same issues. also Adrian brody was vexcellent in this movie as was Cedrics narration. This movie was basically flawless music wise stort wise and acting wise. Plus you didnt even mention lil walters performance which wa sht e show stealer and usimply great.

  • I have to disagree with your analysis of this movie it is pretty obvious chess played the artists a little bit but way less than any other white producer and he was giving black artists a true chance to shine. I also thought the part with the house deed and Etta cleared it up. they also said in the end that they sued chess for royalties. Beyonce was very convincing as Etta the whole movie. You dont have to ahte. she was alittle to pretty to play Ettas ugly ass but she still killed it.

  • The term Rock N' Roll it self is a Black slang meanning to have sex.

  • For those who are on youtube allot and want to know more about blues, check out search delta blues singers Son House and Robert Johnson. Check out Texas blues singers lightin hopkins and BlindvLemon Jeferson. You want to talk about coolness and Blues. Peep these cats. And for women Look up Big Mama Thortan and Bessie Smith.

  • tommy... thanks..you're right

  • I study, research, seek blues music like nerd studiesscience or like tressure seeker seeking gold.

  • Okay I am going to rant. Blues music is in 80% of music. It is in 100% of all black music. Thomas Dorsey the father of gospel music put blues in gospel. Hevey Metal music has blues roots nearly half. I can go on and on

  • @tommy2chips Muddy waters influenced Stevie Ray Vaughan who influenced John Mayer and god knows how many where influenced by him... so Blues is pretty much everything the music is today.. (maybe except dance music [electro])

  • I loved this movie, very informative. Finally shines light on how many songs were stolen from the TRUE pioneers of rock&roll. Muddy Waters, Chuck Berry, Lil Walter, Howlin Wolf, Etta James ....and so many more of our black artists who paved the way for music in general are under appreciated.

  • It's not cadillac records, it's chess records. the company was chess records.

  • what is that melodie at first??? must know¨!! :))

hwo sing it and name of the song,, please!! :)))

    cca 0:05

  • hoochie coochie man. or Mannish Boy by Muddy waters

  • thank you so much :))))

  • I loved this movie from beginning to end and will watch it again--the acting and the music were phenomenal!

    Perri in Amarillo

  • This movie is nice. That is, unless you care about history, and expect to learn anything. There are many movies about music that you only enjoy if you're a fan. This one is the opposite, you're only able to like it if you're not a fan and don't really know much about the subject, otherwise, the timeline blunders and historical inaccuracies will annoy you out of enjoying it.

If they didn`t want to worry about it making any sense with reality they should have made it entirely fictional.

  • yeah i agree it would have made a better ficitonal film

  • I don't understand why the changed the timeline up so much either. Don't get me wrong, I LOVED the movie, because it was that entertaining. I walked in not knowing all that much about the blues, but knowing the names of the artists. Well, I walked out wanting to know more. And when I found out all who were with Chess Records, and when so and so recorded this, and when they died, etc..., I just couldn't understand why change it. It still would've been interesting. Either way, I enjoyed it.

  • I've admired Jeffrey Wright since Manchurian Chandidate. And his wife is that lady in the movie with Eddie Murphy, as his girlfriend. BTW the movie was alright too. I could watch it more than once.

  • movie was not just alright its real good

  • adrian brody is so handsome to me...

  • wats the song name at the beging

  • In 1961 this white boy was in East High School Kansas City. On Saturday nights we could pick up Stan's Record Review in Shreviport La. Stan was packaging these artists blues 45's for sale... We were in love with this blues music and this Southern Station was the only place we could hear it.

  • Hi dadropinggy

I am finding it difficult not to envy you that experience! I'm trying not to 'do' envy anymore. That sounds great, though, to have heard that radio show.

I won't complain: the 1960s were a fantastic time for me, discovering the real blues records which were issued in Britain (and some that weren't). I listen to those records now (plus new discoveries like the recently released Little Walter outtakes) and they still sound like they did then!

    Best wishes

  • diamond music

  • To all the cast of Cadillac Records you guys did an amazing job on the movie and i nearly cried at the end when Leonard died. Hope i didnt spoil anyones thought of the seeing movie go see it and write a review on it AMAAAzinng!!!!

  • Thanks mykalroze.

I will check out the album and his earlier stuff too. I know Chris Cornell's well-respected but that's all I know. I will educate myself. Thanks for turning me on to it.

Take care, we'll talk again sometime.

  • white people just have to try and steal everything. rock&roll is black music and always will be.

  • Music has no color. It's for everyone.

& everyone who started rock & roll were influenced by the different music of other races.

    So please, don't split it.

  • Oh, come on, enough with the naive, let's all hold hands and sing "We Are The World." Your view is very naive. "Music has no color." That sounds like something you'd find on a Hallmark card. If music has no color, why do so many millions of Americans listen to music based, in part, on race? Just look at the animosity spurred by rocker Chris Cornell making an album with hip-hop producer Timbaland. That rift is not just a style-based conflict, but an old racial one as well.

  • Hi mykalroze....

John Lee Hooker, yes THE John Lee Hooker said "Blues ain't got no colour".

I can understand what you're saying and I mean no offense to you but music must break down the barriers.

Buddy Holly was working on integration, Benny Goodman too, and Muddy Waters and Paul Butterfield and Otis Redding and Jimi Hendrix....

Times change - let's make 'em change!

Best wishes - and respect - to all

  • Hi Guitarandharp, I do hope that, one day, we all will get past our hangups over race. Unfortunately, there still is racial prejudice, racism and ignorance. I'm not going to hold my breath, waiting for people to come around. I hope that people do start to listen to music based on what is heard, and not who's making it. I bring up Chris Cornell working with Timbaland. I sense many rock fans hated that album before it even came out. Some gave it a chance, most hated it, just as they predicted.

  • Hello again mykalroze.

Thanks for your response. I will listen to the Chris Cornell album as soon as possible. I confess that I was not aware of it, so thanks for that.

We don't have to wait for people to come around. We just have to do the right thing ourselves. It'll take some time but I remain optimistic!

    Thanks again, take care.

  • Hey guitarandharp. I'm a big music lover, and I give pretty much everything a try. I even listen to artists who sing in languages I don't know. I'm not one to HATE others who don't like what I like. So I don't mind if people don't like the new Cornell album. I don't like all the songs there, but Cornell's tried new sounds on his Audioslave albums, as well as all his solo joints. Succeed or fail, I'd rather have an artist branch out. Too many fans are crying for him to make his old stuff.

  • To be honest....I think god created Rock n roll to bring everyone together.

  • I hope that's true, but, still, there is too much ignorance around. Despite more "interracial" music listening taking place now, there still are millions of people who don't listen to music based on the race of the group.singer. I think that much of the rejection of Chris Cornell's new album is because he worked with a hip-hop producer in Timbaland, and many rock fans hate rap, in part because blacks made it. Try telling rock fans that rock and roll is a black music form and see the response.

  • I agree with you,but most of these rock fans today listen to pop rock and not even underground rock. They are no different then people picking on Chris Cornell. They don't know the whole history of Rock n Roll. They don't know of Chuck Berry or Bo biddley.

  • I'll agree that there are some rock fans who know and like the blues, and listen to those black blues musicians, and the black innovators/creators of rock and roll. But I've found many more would are racist, and wouldn't listen to black artists if you paid them. I remember many rock fans started listening to Eminem, but they wouldn't ever listen to a black rapper, and they quickly anointed Eminem the best rapper, same with Beastie Boys. But they gave no credit to black innovators in rap.

  • I remeber in the 90's when people would listen to the Beastie Boys and Eminem, but not the whole of rap and Hip-pop.Eminem and the Beastie Boys credit their Black innovators in rap,but their fans like Elvis freaks omit history.Americans are insane sometimes.Eminem and the Beastie Boys know and have more Blacks friends then some of their fans.

  • I'm definitely not blaming the Beastie Boys and Eminem, but the ignorant and/or racist fans of theirs. I'm a longtime Beasties fan, and while I'm not an Eminem fan, I recognize he's got skills. The media and fans were so quick to anoint Eminem as a rap god, when it helped (oh, just a little) that he had one of rap's best sound architects in Dr. Dre. That white artists are quick to be given "rock god" status is nothing new in American music. It still happens now.

  • Hi mykalroze.

I just heard some of Chris Cornell's album on YouTube. It sounds good to me! You're so right, lets have more open-minded, open-hearted appreciation of music.

I'm glad that you choose not to hate. That's a big favour anyone can do for themselves - don't hate anybody or anything. Why? Because you're the one who suffers the most. But as we're all connected (believe it or not) we all suffer when there's hate. Love is the law and the power!!

Best wishes to all music fans.

  • I particularly like the title track and "Long Gone." I find most of the album interesting in that they're experimenting. Some songs lean more toward rock, others more to hip-hop, and the rest are almost a 50-50 split between the two styles. And, no, not everything works great, but that's fine, they're trying new things, and when you do that, there's going to be hits, misses. People want PERFECTION, but that comes through trial and error. Sad that fans choose to close their minds....

  • Try as I may, but I could not see Etta James in Beyonce's performance in Cadillac Records.

Beyonce was just Beyonce in a wig in that movie.

Hopefully, a movie about Etta James will be made in the future with a more worthy actress. That is one with acting chops and without as much ego as Beyaki.

  • I liked it she played etta james great, she has such a powerful voice and such a talented person overall, and please who are you judging someone that's better than you when you probably don't even sing or act! so shut up!!!!!

  • I wish Alecia got the role.. but that's just me

  • This movie does seem interesting enough to go see, but can Darnell Martin be any more fake. She's reflective of why I can't stand these "interviews." I understand actors, directors, etc., are required by contract to gush about the movie they're tied to, but some people can be so fake. I think it's also written into these contracts that people gush how an (actor, director, writer, etc.) is so WONDERFUL, or INGENIOUS, or INCREDIBLE, or the BEST EVER, blah, blah, blah. It grew tiresome long ago.

  • this movie is soooooooooooooo ecellent but not for kids to watch too much cursing but if you watch Dream girls sand you likd it you will like this but its better than dream girls and hilarious with the guy from stop the yard in t Columbus short he was good i dont really like shows that beyonce comes in to but omg i was shocked she nailed it everyone in the thetre was like B_B can act its nice.

  • I finally saw it today, and it definitely was worth it. Columbus Short was great. I think he steals the show with his portrayal of Little Walter. It's funny, because I'm a fan of Stomp the Yard, and I didn't find out until after I came home from seeing Cadillac Records that he also played DJ. Beyonce did a great job as well, and Jeffrey Wright was solid as usual. We didn't see enough of Howlin' Wolf. But, I'm still thinking about Short's acting -- Walter had the saddest story.

  • This movie is brilliant.

EVERYONE was oscar worthy in this movie...except adrien brody...he's boring and he plays the same frustrated traits to death in every movie...lol

  • Columbus Short shines in this movie, and he as least deserved a little bone thrown his way for this here promotional clip. Sure, Beyonce has the big name, and she's playing Etta James, but I think Short gives a great portrayal here. Beyonce does a good job, too, don't get me wrong, and Jeffrey Wright's good as always, but how could they not "interview" Short? Of all the acting, I remember his most vividly. I'd watch it again just for him.

  • I agree. Columbus is brilliant.

Beyonce...I love her so much, but she doesn't deserve an award for this. She didn't step outside the box.

  • If anyone truly deserves a best acting award, it's Columbus Short, or Jeffrey Wright. Not Beyonce. But, and this is why I stopped paying attention to the Academy and its Oscars a long time ago, the Academy are, first, a bunch of snobs, and second, they award based on political/business reasons. Short isn't high-profile enough, nor is Wright, so they won't be nominated, and, thus, will not win. The Oscars, Grammys, Emmys... all BS. But Short? He's great and he's the best in the movie.

  • I agree. Jeffrey is one of the greatest actors living, meanwhile, he is ALWAYS overlooked.

  • I first saw him playing Sidney Bechet in one of the episodes of the Adventures of Indiana Jones TV show, and he showed he had something back then, even in that small role. I liked him in the title role in the Basquiat. He's good in almost everything he does. It's pitiful that Hollywood is still about who you are and how you look, rather than how well you can act. Wright will be overlooked by the Academy, as will Columbus Short, but based on their acting in Cadillac, they're winners to me.

  • And I just had another thought. The movie had some good casting. I see no need to change a single role. I know you weren't exactly enamored with Adrien Brody, but I think he was good enough. But Jeffrey Wright and Columbus Short, in particular, were very good. Beyonce did a good job as Etta James. Cedric was solid as Willie Dixon. Eamonn Walker was underused, yet good as Howlin' Wolf. Most American movie stumble with casting, but Cadillac's an exception.

  • You're correct. The Oscars are an embarassment.Columbus Short was the best supporting actor of the year and he did his own singing? Forget the silly Oscars.I can name dozens of ridiculous,air-headed awards that were meaningless.

  • Some of the comments posted are absurd. These two vocalist, Ms. Etta James and Ms. Beyonce Knowles should not be compared. True, Ms. James recorded the superiour version of the song. Ms. Knowles however, did and incredible job with it. And don't forget about the acting. I was pleasantly suprised and delighted with her performance. She is truly gifted and I hope she wins an academy award someday.

  • Beyonce needs to watch the movie Rock & Rolls King is not Muddy Waters it's Charles Edward Anderson(Chuck Berry)The song she sang was not written in the 50's she needs to get it right in was written in the 60's Young'ins

  • its REALLY not that serious. @ bluze You did way too much with that comment. Old people don't know everything. damn.

  • um"ladykizzle1984"can u pleez say sumthin else?....ur same comment has been on every cadillac records video....i truey believe u r a hater....just shut up...hun!!

  • why are they acting like Beyonce is such a great vocalist???..shes not

  • have u heard her songs?

are u even on this planet?

shes an amzing vocalist dude shes awesome!

  • I like Beyonce! She's gorgeous and talented. Etta James is the Bomb! She's the greatest blues singer of all times. I'm glad Beyonce is playing her. I saw Etta just a few months ago in person. I am so honored that I was able to see her in person. She's incredible and bows to no one.

  • y'all just hatin on beyonce cuz y'all aint creole! *sarcasm*

  • LadyKizzle: Beyonce Knowles is Creole on her mother's side.

  • Beyonce is black lets be real.

  • Right!! lol

  • Anandaluv:

It's real. Louisiana Creoles are a Black ethnic group. Haitian Creoles are a Black ethnic group. The Gullah people of the Sea Islands are a Black ethnic group. Perhaps "tribe" is a better definition. No one denies that any of the people described are Black, so what is not real?

  • I don't think they could be called a black ethnic group only.If all their lineage was from Africa....without euro or indian.I would call them that, but at the sametime....you'll never find a true African in Africa.Look at the barbar people of north Africa, and look at the sun bush people that look asian, and come in skin tones of red, light brown, and yellow.Look at easte africans as a whole.

  • marialogo:

LOL!!!!! What sarcasm? Plenty of people do dislike Creoles for their(our) tendency to withdraw from everyone who is not related by blood, marriage, or a minimum of 2 generations of family friendship. In New Orleans before Jim Crow laws were repeatled this meant sitting at the back of the bus, the back of that streetcar named desire, paying a poll tax to vote, going to Xavier or Dillard and saying Besez mon cul to it all.BTW,many Creoles dislike Beyonce for not following the rules!

  • Beyonce was in like the last 30 min and i nearly cringed her whole part. Her drug scene was a joke. And the only thing she did was curse heavy, cry and supposedly seduce.. Nothing new. Call me a hater if you want but you guys no the deal. Oh and Oscar my azz. If she wins an oscar money was involved. Stick to singing and dancing hun.

  • um hunny think of something new 2 say because you jus write that in the last video..

    update your self....hun

  • Lol I just didn't feel like writing something over and over again so I just copied and pasted to make sure my voice is heard whether people like it or not.

  • Whats funny is... If you really listen to these cadilac racords interviews with beyonce. About how special this role is to her and how challenging it is. She said the exact same shit when she was trying to push dreamgirls on us. Its the exact same shit shes saying.lol Its funny to me, of course the STANS dont like the reality im giving. The critics even said the could tell the movie was CONTRIVED to make Beyonce steal the show. That wouldnt be hard to do as a producer! lol

  • They tried to do the same with Dreamgirls but Jennifer stole the limelight....you could tell Jen's acting was more genuine.

  • You study her mighty hard I see

  • cool

  • In this movie, Beyonce is blond because Etta James was blond.

  • then dont go to the movie.

  • See what im saying? Cant nobody express an opinion about Beyonce that isnt kissing her ass without YOU and your counterparts acting like they commited a crime! Beyonce is NOT GOD! And there are LOTS of people who are sick of her and dont want to kiss her ass cause the media is so biased to her. Dont be mad at everyone that doesnt adore her...

Ps. The movie got BAD reviews from MANY CREDIBLE news sources...

  • No one acted like anybody committed a crime. All he/she said was don't go to the movie since the person said they tired of Beyonce. Problem solved!

  • Yall act like Beyonce was never blond before.

She's been blond way before this movie c'mon now! (Destiny's Child)

  • wow -imma go watch it

  • Seems like a good movie. I hope it's the last role as a singer....

  • i agree, she's been a lounge turned gospel singer, a parisian singer, an aspiring singer, the lead singer of a group, and now the legenday singer etta james. I want her to show more range as an actress. I mean, all her characters are slightly different, but she pretty much just plays herself...

  • wtf

beyonce + blond hair = scary shit

  • :0 beyonce as a blond?
