  • tObacco

  • this is eric burdon and the war

  • I once bought an amp off the drummer!

  • cool

  • now i know how the black blues players felt listening to a bunch of british white kids sing their blues songs. sorta. but yeah, i'd like to see those guys anywhere near "tobacco road" or anywhere like it. despite how good the song is, it seems silly to me now.

  • Eric definitely invented super cool, when l was 4 or 5 ,when l used to hear those Animals songs play on the radio while my mom was doin house work ,l didn't think there was a D J playin records ,l thought it was one cool party goin on ,with a big stage , and performer after performer would step up to the microphone ,one after the other , all day ,every day , and I thought Eric Burden was the coolest of them all , the one i wanted to meet ,the one l wanted to be ,crazy huh...

  • Nice

  • outstanding song.

  • This song makes me want a cigarette

  • Comment removed

  • The Animals owned!

  • I am ashamed to say that up until this point I associated this song with David Lee Roth. This is soooo much better.

  • @pattianna483 Eric Burdon is the King of Soul

  • LOVE ERIC BURDON- He's sure got soul!! love his songs, his singing, his dancing..and he's so damn Cute

  • @EricBurdonFanDetroit

    yep, very sexy... ..... xx

  • I saw this band in Dover NH in the 60's and they were awesome

  • I love this song and is the second time i have heard it.

  • Eric Burdon knows how to entertain, awesome music.

  • He deserves better than 57th place on the "Rolling Stone" best singers of all time.

  • @jennylustforlife1 i've heard that some deaf people work in that magazine :D

  • @RuthRGesteira Yeah- Ya know, I heard that some deaf and dumb people work for that maganzine : D !!!!!!!

  • Eric Burdon never gets the credit he deserves. He's awesome.

  • this song gives me chills jus like all the rest of the animals songs- these guys kick so much ass

  • I like Hank William Jr's version of this song

  • Music is sex

  • tobacco street

  • Eric Burdon invented cool.

  • @psisky if not the inventor he was one of the prophets of cool!!!

  • awsome...no comparison...We love Eric Burdom...georgeous voice, amazing form in the rock history...

  • Eric Burdon, great voice!

  • One of the best songs ever

  • Simply BRILLIANT !!!

  • Eric Burdon had one of the greatest voices EVER!!! Love this song. One of my all time favorites.

  • Eric Burdon is my idol

  • This is from 1967. As a 13 year-old I got to see Eric & The Animals on this tour at Drew University in New Jersey. Eric's drummer at the time was Barry Jenkins, of Nashville Teens fame. They had the British hit with Tobacco Road in 1964. Near the end of the Drew concert, a bunch of girls rushed the stage and grabbed hold of Eric's legs. Eric squirmed loose - down came the curtain - and that was it.

  • would anyone know if there is video of the 1970 version which includes "I have a dream"? It was on the album Eric Burdon Declares 'WAR'.

  • A great song written by John Lowdermilk, and this is one the peaks of music.

  • Love Eric Burdon... First time iv heard this and its musical perfection like the rest of his songs!

  • 0.08 I can't seem to enter my text there!!!!! XD

  • Timeless

  • my point of view is that The Animals were the first white boys playing blues...

I listen this song and I'am under strong impression... they rule

  • @obivankenjobi who gives a shit if they were white

  • @GiantDoucheNG By todays standards, You'd be right. Back in 1974, People were just starting to get that Rock'n'Roll came out of Black artists, who were getting ripped off 4 their songs, music, rhythms. When prominent white bands & players like Clapton, Blues Breakers, Canned Heat,Q Quick Silver, The Stones Zepplin, came up playiing Blues,it helped many Black Artists who were almost obscure gain notice, and come into their own. The white players threw racism aside, and raised awareness.

  • @JoeyJoelBand Zeppelin just really blatantly stole from lesser known black musicians without giving them proper credit. But yeah I see what you mean.

  • Tasty!

  • Someone please get me tabs for that solo!!!!!

  • @MegaSkoalBandit7195 Dude, tabs for that solo won't help. For one, what he is playing is extremely simple... 'Blues 101.' The notes,(scale) primarily the pentatonic scale, are openly available. Skype me, I'll show you. Easy as can be. What is NOT EASY, is the FEEL, the TOUCH, his Vibrato, Tone.. All that is found in, Yes, The Blues. That guy is playing STRAIGHT BLUES, thats all. Tabs, on a Blues? Don't insult yourself, or the Blues. If interested, Don't copy it, learn what it is.

  • nothing but legendary.... 29 got nothing but taste in there ass...

    these guys rock...

  • love it and many others from this era .. music from this time has more feeling than I can appreciate from the current mainstream ...

  • thats when music was GOOD

  • OMFG.

its startin to piss me off seeing the same friggin comment "i was born in the wrong decade" being in the top comments DDD:<

  • Excelente guitarrista. Quién es?

  • Did you notice the other guitar player with the Strat? Looked like the guy from Dave Clark 5; Sure does sound like EC; perhaps was the same guy who solo-ed during "Sky Pilot" ca. 1967; I think these were "Eric Burdon and the New Animals" after Chas Chandler left to produce Hendrix; hope someone can get the real story; anyway, sounds great all around, no?

  • 29 people have no soul.

  • I think there is a killer version of this song that's like 12 to 15 minutes long on "Eric Burdon Declares WAR"

  • what a great biker band cool or what eric burdon chas chandler legends they were so different to everyone else at the time

  • It is no secret what the folks from Tabaco road will do for a twenty dollar bill, just ask the media.Take care ADonovan43

  • burdon- one of the true power voices of the 60s

    he could bring it

  • what a killer version of this tried and true tune! those classic blues riffs thrown in - John Weider, eh?

  • Solid blues, sounds as black as can be even tho played by white guys. They really tuned in in those times.

  • @skykiss12 have you listened to him do dylan "it's all over now baby blue"?

  • Holy Shit! every single time.

  • simply AMAZING!

  • best there ever was

  • yes thats John Weider on Lead.

  • John Weider really tore shit up in that solo.

    A+ video man!!

I watch at least 3 times a day!!!

  • If I get to have a son one day... he's name will be Eric.

  • Keep in mind that access to all these bands did not exist in the decade of the 60s, as it does now thanks to the internet. Parents were not likely to allow their children to go to concerts unless they were in their mid-teens. I was 10 & 11 when The Beatles came to Milwaukee and were not able to go see them. We had to rely on the few TV shows that featured the 'big' name bands occasionally. Now we have access to shows from all over the world that we didn't know were even happening!

  • yeah i'de hit that

  • outstanding

  • i was born in a FAG country called Canada!!! Anyways, Eric Burdon seemed vocally superior to Mick Jagger!!!

  • You can find good music today. But it competes with corporate driven junk food music on par with MacDonalds.

In early rock and roll a garage band could pony up some cash, cut a record, get airplay on the radio, and then seduced listeners with their unique sound and raw talent.

Today, corporate analysts back whatever CD sells in the shortest amount of time, confident that the ever changing (and spending) audience of young listeners lack a historical perspective on what real music is.

  • What a voice!

  • John Weider AND Vick Briggs.

  • This is prob. the best song I've heard in all my life!

  • 29 people were born in a dump.!

  • Who is that lead guitar player? he is no Animal regular, I could swear he is slowhand himself & his red ES 335 They dn´t make music like ths anymore

  • @carlos45703030 That is John Weider doing lead guitar,,,,

  • @radioactive1111 John is closet to Eric and Vic Briggs is the other guitarist. It was through Jimi that Vic and John found themselves in Eric's band. Vic's dad lead troops on Omaha beach in WWII. That's Vic on the strat.

  • @carlos45703030 I agree, it sounds like Clapton in the mid-Cream days. Maybe an influence.

  • fucking hell doesn't get much better than this does it?

  • He sing with so much emotion....we need more singers like this nowadays, with SOUL!!!

  • bad ass song.

  • We're doing pretty good folks, only 29 soulless retards, with no sense of music, out of 1,143,690 people. Probably some religious fanatics from somewhere like BFE.

  • i was thinking fuck this is old! i was thinking it still sounds very good, you dont need HD if you have talent lol!

  • Eric Burdon and the Animals have so much soul. I wish they were still playing today.

  • i love this song

  • STOP comparing them to the Stones and Beatles. All these bands were great, but DIFFERENT. I was there , and buying ALL their music then. Do kids only buy music from one band now, and rubbish all others ? Nothing much has changed except the style of music. Too much analysis here. We were just teenagers who liked the sounds, and often not even listening to the lyrics or the message, if there was one. More the 'atmosphere' and spirit of the songs, depending on changeable teenage mood.

  • @grahamw56 You have nailed it, they were all great.

  • @grahamw56 nobody cares if you were there or when you bought their music dude. you say that u were there like it makes you a final authority on the music.. let people have whatever opinions they want.. everyone knows the bands are different but in order to deduce that they are different you have to compare them...right? there are definitely similarities amongst the bands in the British invasion and that isn't necessarily a bad thing, what the animals do different is just what makes them so great

  • @thomas221100 Oh, I beg your pardon. I thought I was just expressing an opinion...just as you are. Yes, I was 'there'. They were a band local to me. Sorry, can't change that for you. :)

  • @grahamw56 maybe you and your friends didn't pay attention to the lyrics and analyze them, but a lot of people did, especially when it came to Bob Dylan and The Beatles. Lennon actually wrote "Glass Onion" to confuse and poke fun at all the people who were over analyzing their lyrics and looking for hidden messages.

  • the Stones wish they could sound this good or the Beatles... nah this is "THE BAND""

  • the first time i heard this song was by lou rawls ( 1963)...this is the only rendition that holds its ground since then..great stuff!!!!.

  • I'm not an old fart but I remeber as a child listening to it on Frday nights from across the water. It sounded unreal!!!!!!!!!!! I was young and never realized until now that he was into blues. He is is awesome!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

  • Man, he is good at what he does!

  • What a great song done by Eric Burdon and the animals...

  • Wow!

  • no pride left in what we do ppl have lost their faith

  • lordy what memories yeah yeah yeah

  • Todays music isnt bad if you look in the right place look at The BLACK KEYS

  • Todays music just doesn't have the same soul and feeling like yesteryears music.

  • How could someone listen to this and not have an orgasm??! Eric Burdon was the best wailer of ALL TIME!! Legend has it that he spent about several months in the Mississippi Delta, birthplace of the blues, to learn how it's done. I think he learned just fine.

  • @60sHippie1 i agree!

  • Anybody know if this version is on I tunes?

  • Can someone please tell me accurately who the guitar player was that played the solo in this video? Informed replies please.

  • Thank GOD I wasn't!!

  • Eric Burdon was and will always be the sexiest man alive. (Well to me at least). I love him!!!!

  • @PeytonLee13 he still grooves with his music to this dayt

  • @PeytonLee13 he still grooves to his music to this day

  • @strongameric how does one agree with a question?

  • What I loved about Eric is that he was the "bad boy" type that I loved as a teenager. (I kinda still do)

  • Eric Burdon kicks fucking ass

  • I really hate all these people who think that music should have stayed like this forever, don't get me wrong, I think this is one of most beautiful songs I've heard in a while, but I can still appreciate that Lady Gaga's music touches her audience in a way similar to the way this touches me. I can still appreciate that Justin Bieber has something to offer his audiences, and that is apparently enjoyable music for a lot of people. Let modern music alone.

  • @sheburnslikethesun You are so right! Everyone thinks that the past is better than today but we should let everything (music, art, fashion) evolve! Actually, there is nothing new, everyone repeat the culture from the past but in more commercial way!

  • @sheburnslikethesun well said

  • I was 18-25 in the 60's ......I wish we had You tube then. About 90% of these clips that you see were never seen by us (in Canada at least). I played in bands then and it was a great time to grow up. We had limited TV and no video recorders or players either. Its great to be able to see the old bands in their prime.

  • 28 people ain't got no soul.

  • 28 people ain't got no soul

  • @VochoERS After 3 or 4 beers, don't we all try, at least those of us that lived it.

  • Right on , I'm an old fart of 64 , it was great to be around when this music was introduced.. What a buzz !! Didn't need grass or any drugs to enjoy this ....

  • EB proves that for a singer, for talent, all you need is a voice and a personality.

  • What's noteworthy about this tune- Eric Burden re-did this song later on, when he was with War . Another fantastc version of this tune in which Eric brings the house down with his epic feel and voice. For those of you that never heard this version with War, youtube's got it, go check it out !

  • Totally badass without a doubt, spot on !

  • Eric THE VOICE and The Animals The Master Musicians! Fantastic...

  • i need this on mp3 anyone know where to get?

  • 28 people are from functional families in the suburbs...

  • Check out the original blues singers- leadbelly- billie holliday (spelling?), muddy waters.... Rock is derived from a combination of jazz/r&B/classsical... no kidding

  • It's safe to say that The Animals were more talented than The Beatles, just less well known.

  • Great voice...The Animals was a phenomenal band of the 60s....

    Elaine :)

  • he has such a HUGE voice

  • i was born in the wrong decade

  • @dakpb yeah man!! me too.. I born at wrong place and wrong time@

  • @dakpb blame god haha

  • @dakpb me too man me too..

  • @dakpb so true

  • i wish the music them days were been played nowadays and lady gaga and all that crap were playin in the 60's

  • @MrGavalava

No, No, No...I would have been scrwed then.......

  • I absolutely love the tone of that Gibson ES.I wonder what amp he's using?

  • GeordieLord . . . as an old fart (61) ... I really appreciate You LOVING Our

    Music . . . BUT, Please Enjoy BUT, Don't give up on Current Songs . . .

U will look bk inna a few years and appreciate a lot of what is happening NOW!!!

"listen to me now and hear me later" LOL!!! btw ... I Love A Lot Of Current

Music . . . MUSIC IS THE ULTIMATE IN MAN'S EXPRESSION OF LIFE!!!

  • @JTAqualung

one thing you should know: there is no better or not, but Different !!

  • @xsellsbrod You're right, it is different. It's different from other versions of this song. Do not change the fact that this version I do not like. I've heard much better.

  • @JTAqualung I'd agree, My Vote would go towards Paul Revere and The Raiders cover of this song.

  • 'Tobacco Road...I Had A Dream'...11 minutes of eargasm from the 'Eric Burdon Declares War' album.....God I love it!!...Eric's most masterful vocal tour de force ever ever ever....immediately followed by 'Spill the Wine'....you gotta love it!

  • where did todays music go wrong? Thumbs up if you agree XD

  • @strongarmeric Couldn't agree with you more. I don't know what happened, but from the 80's on, music just went straight downhill to the present where you have ex-pimps, drug dealers and other zero talent low-lifes screaming grade school rhymes peppered with profanity and actually making money! The ultimate scam: (c)rap...don't need to play an instrument, don't need to have a voice, don't need to be able to write music, don't need any talent. Unbelievable!!!

  • @strongarmeric today's music went wrong 41 years ago when the 60's turned into the 70's...

  • Comment removed

  • Into the dump when his mother died and his daddy got drunk right on down to the rusty shack on tobacco road.

  • long time since I heard any version of this!

  • this is my favorite version of this tune by far

  • this is fantastic and classical, but I tend to sway towards Eric Burdon & War...

  • Love Eric Burdon's voice! In today's music all we have is 'filler music' they are all songs to fill the spot on the radio till the next song comes out and in a month you forget the song. This is good music.

  • This version is very close (as in slow, but with added solos) to the version by the author, JD Loudermilk. My other favorite versions are The Nashville Teens and The Blues Magoos.

  • I agree they were great to see live in 1983. I saw them at the Royal Albert Hall in London that year. It was the original 5 members of the group, and they played just as well live as on record. In my experience, a lot of groups don't. But the Animals were excellent, and that concert stands out in my memory as one of a handful among hundreds that were absolutely brilliant. Haven't heard this rendition of Tobacco Road before, but saw Nashville Teens play it live 3 times. Another great group.

  • Saw the original Animals on tour a couple of years ago, but without Eric its like the Beatles without Lennon.

    Fact is good music and pure talent L A S T S.

  • Eric Reminds me of bobby darrin

  • @Thepast2012 I I wouldn't classify this as R&B. As a blues drummer (I've been playin professionally since the 60's) I would say this is pure blues, man. WE play this number in my present band and it has all the elements of Blues. A shuffle beat, 6/8, 12/8 feel all the way through. I WAS 18-25 in the 60's, dude!

  • Quite magnificent!!

  • great song
