What I loved about the movie (I just saw it again), is the lack of vulgarity, etc. The story line is a simple one, but it was fresh and innocent in its own way. Made for the youth of the day. This is a great song! And this video is hilarious! I know it was the early 80's but this still had to be a ridiculous video even for back then.
However for a song that sounds like it's about someone who has snorted an entire wheelbarrow full of cocaine and is now physically incapable of doing anything but dancing, I would expect nothing less than an over the top ridiculous video like this!

This is one of the very best early 80's dance songs... which weren't many as everyone was moving away from disco/dance music as being so decade (too black too gay etc). In any case thanks to stuff like this a some italio disco there were still a few good dance floor numbers. Shannon "Let the music play" was more dance than new wave oriented.

Mothra is compelled to answer @jackthayer and @hulkout666: Couldn't agree more with you. Mothra has been around for CENTURIES but jack, you're right. We could use more of this and less of the overblown, self-centric fever-angst to which the hulkout refers. Mothra surmises this video would NEVER be made today, although as hulkout sez: this was quite commonplace in the 80s. A lower-energy video would have been wrong and/or career-damaging. This is a great song! And this video is hilarious! I know it was the early 80's but this still had to be a ridiculous video even for back then.
However for a song that sounds like it's about someone who has snorted an entire wheelbarrow full of cocaine and is now physically incapable of doing anything but dancing, I would expect nothing less than an over the top ridiculous video like this!

@DerkThunder Actually, it wasn't thought of as ridiculous back then. Music videos were all over the top. That was the norm. Nowadays, there is so much right wing bullshit and everyone feels the need to try to act tough. They're scared to just be themselves. During this time, everything was just really fun and that's how it should be.

This is one of the very best early 80's dance songs... which weren't many as everyone was moving away from disco/dance music as being so decade (too black too gay etc). In any case thanks to stuff like this a some italio disco there were still a few good dance floor numbers. Shannon "Let the music play" was more dance than new wave oriented.

@watchtheskies Yes, it is. He's in his 50s now, and he's still quite handsome. His zaniness seems to have been subdued by personal tragedy; however, he seems to have retained his sense of humor. He has also gone on to write, produce, and perform some incredible music.
