Hi mr skip D-will enjoyed his life all times in Istanbul, he tasted most of the food and liked , he didnt injured, he got his form and the last thing we can speak English.
Definitely smart. He got new fans, got enough money, great place outside the US. He has tasted the delicious turkish cousine and he's fit for the nba now.
Erplasonier, you're right. Besiktas is a big basketball team but right now they're active in the Turkish league and third tier European cup only. I mean, they just played over in Holland in a shack with maybe 1800 people. In Holland all attention goes to football/soccer and, interestingly, speed skating. If you find yourself playing basketball against a team from a small Dutch town, you know you made a mistake.
Williams can play everywhere but a lot of American players are just not flexible enough to get used to new surroundings or intelligent or hard working enough to see through superficial cultural differences or pick up a new language. Europeans are used to driving an hour or 2 or 3 and then having to speak another language, or eat different types of food, see different architecture etc.
@Yankii81 language is not problem. everyone speaking english in european basketball teams. food is not problem too you can find any food you want in everywhere. deron's wrong choise is that he choosed besiktas. he could go to fenerbahce ulker or anadolu efes which teams playing in euroleague. i could say more things but my english is sucks so i'll shut up
@Gocavs1990 You can find pork in Istanbul in stores. It just not serving in restaurants. You can even find restaurants serving pork but they are few... Turkey is secular country, in marmara, aegean and mediterranean regions all cultures is living not just Islamic...
In Europe the stadiums are usually a lot smaller and half filled. There's normally only one match per week. There's no serious entertainment around the matches and the big media tend to focus on football/soccer only, leaving crumbles in the newspaper for rugby, ice hockey and basketball. Yet, the level op play is pretty high. In the NBA the regular season is a lot of show and little game. In Europe the defense is harder to crack while there's a greater emphasis on shooting and passing.
These guys are just dump. read D.Williams' website. he is talking about how he loves the food, country and culture in Turkey. he just made game in front of 15.000 cheerful fan today. I am afraid he will not wanna come back even lockout is over! Iverson was something totally different. if he comes now, it will be much different for him. I think he is still besiktas player
Holy shit, these guys are ignorant... I don't think they understand the level of competition and fan support for basketball in Europe.. I don't know who these guys are who hate it so much they're referring to, but there are numerous guys who could/should be in the NBA but are staying there because of the atmosphere and culture (Life is healthier over there!!)
I think Kobe wouldnt mind competing in europe just to sharpen his competitive edge. The guy would move to Mars if it meant playing against Martians just to elevate his game. Might actually be a healthy move for Kobe if he does because champions tend to relax and lose fire in the next season. He needs a new challenge, a fresh start, replenish some championship spirit, starve him for another ring that he might come back and devour the NBA once again. Being homesick may be just what players need.
problem is that bashiktash doesn't play in a high level of basketball, they play in the Eurocup, which is the second league in europe, this league consists of teams that can't make it to the Euroleague, which is the best league in the world (after the NBA of course)
@MrRolaCosta you're wrong, bro. this situation is about quality . the basketball in nba is best in the world thats right. but basketball in europe harder than nba. nba teams dont have a system but we have
It ultimately was just dumb & pointless because the lockout ended and the NBA only missed 16 games.

smart definitely smart! Cause he earns money makes practice and gets more fans in Europe. It's also PR for the NBA as a ambassador.
