me and my friend bought kendo sticks and started sparring. We have no training but just from practicing everyday we have strated to devolp techniques and have gotten much better. Only when I look on youtube for videos to inspire new techniques i find that real kendo fights look very diffrent from how we fight and how you guys are fighting. what kind of training do you have or are you two self taught as well??
Both Nagual and I have formal training. Nagual in traditional kendo; myself in various martial arts and weapon styles. As far as what underlies the Free Flowing Sword, we began by studying Northern Shaolin Sword and the teachings of Musashi and Munenori. The biggest influence in the development of the style is Bruce Lee's Tao of Jeet Kune Do. Beyond that, we strive to push ourselves beyond our limits every time we battle. Stay frosty and never stop battling.
@trifidus13 im not familiar with weapon based jeet kune do but i believe strongly in the philosophies of that martial art style and am a huge fanatic of of Bruce Lee. i will defiantly look into it. As far as musashi goes i have read his book "the five rings." You two seem to have some solid technique so basically what i wanna ask is what would you suggest as the most practical sword style I can pursue with formal training?
@rcris18 Such a hard question, as I must ask what is it you want to do? The sport fights, the martial skill or the artistic expression. I only concern myself with what kills or maims my enemy. So the most pratical, in my opinion would be Northern Shoalin Sword.
@rcris18 lessons my friend. free flowing combatants always come out on bottom. your techneques are to loose and your foundations are weak. in a real duel youd topple like a log. kendo is useless as the motions are to elaborate. kendo is more of an art form than a practical style. im fluent in three styles and an expert in jeet kun do and zen boli. if you want a true style that is dominant over all send a message to my inbox and i will give you the run down. learn in norther cali only though.
@bigpeteswackshack Wow man. To even type this makes you a complete ass. I mean, not even Bruce Lee had prefected JKD before his death. But your a master, how is that possible. Its not. Listen I dont know you and there is nothing to verify you exprience, but to come here on our channel and say such SHIT, I dont know what to say. I agree with the kendo as I am left handed, but to boast a style that surpasses all others I leave you to the wolves on that friend.
Pretty cool video! My wife and I want to try martial arts to strengthen our spirits, but in any real defense combat situation I'm grabbing the mossberg
The effectiveness of a firearm in a defense or combat situation is near absolute; save for one thing...you don't have to reload a blade. I, myself, own a few firearms and thoroughly enjoy them, but there is nothing that can touch pitting yourself against an opponent and engaging them within "the killing step." Thanks for the comment and check out the newer videos.
@Adriode martial arts is a good start but martial arts alone wont lead to spiritual enlightenment or strength. martial arts is only the beggining foundation of discipline. once you have a good hold on martial arts and some experiance practive zen boli for it strengthens your senses and teaches you to open up to the world. then comes true meditation and connection with nature and other being as they come into you. the final leap to true spiritual enlightenment can only be taught by yourself.
@OriginalCoreaEmo This is a style of sword fighting. It is combination of kendo, gumbogi, kenjutsu, fencing, iado, northern shaolin sword, and european longsword. I could name some more but you get the idea. We have based this style on Jeet Kun Do. Which we have studied and practiced for 20 years now. Instead of being constricted to one particular style it allows for the individual freedom within the fighting moment. Im curious to what you deemed, "impractical"? Check out our newer vids.
@nagualshadow To be honest, I have to doubt that such diverse number of martial arts can be combined effectively in any way, and that you've learned more than 2 of them with any degree of discipline in 20 years. For one, hanging broken shinai on trees (as seen in your other video) like corpses is incredibly disrespectful.
@nagualshadow And from the perspective of someone formally educated in Kumdo, your movements and posture seem unbalanced. But hey, prove me wrong. Maybe you could post a video playing a match with someone who's been formally educated and focused on one recognisable style.
@OriginalCoreaEmo Okay I could just go off on this. But I will try to expound in a paragraph.1st of all we have 16 years on you If you.Study the teachings of Musashi and Bruce Lee.They will tell you to "know all arts".To understand the true way of martial arts or the Way of the Sword you must seek to broaden your mind. Kumdo,Kendo,Gumbogi,Kenjustu, they are only sports now seeking to impress the judges.I am formally educated in Kendo which means nothing in terms of true swordmanship.
@OriginalCoreaEmo We seek realism in combat. To know how to incorporate freedom in battle. How do you think Mushashi defeated so many people. He did everything they didnt expect, didnt know to think of.Bruce Lee did the same. The way of sword fighting in this era has become lost to its true form. You hide behind bogu to land the strike the judges deem correct, until then each person mutually kills each other. There is no learning in this. IF you think any of my movements are unbalanced,
@OriginalCoreaEmo you fell for it, Ive drawn you in to striking, and since my style actually ALLOWS me t ostep back and forth I can dispatch you with ease. Not that it will always be the case but its the principle of Freedom I speak of. What you see is the all these style put together, nothing more. Once you step outside of your preferred style you learn that there is a similarity of technique in all styles. This IS the Way of the Sword.
@OriginalCoreaEmo As for the shinai, We apologize that is seems disrespectful, but what would you do with them, litter your house with them, or trow them away. They are broken and usless, they have been repaired beyond repairing. For us, to throw them away would BE direspectful. To Showcase them in a Tree, in a place we have battled for over 15 years, gives respect to THEM for us.
most of it just seems like tag with sticks to me but i dont know shit, tag or not you cant look past the fact that you guys can move them shinai better than most fags on youtube, faster too.
I guess you could call it tag with sticks; I prefer full contact chess. Either way we greatly appreciate the ego boost. Check out the HD videos, they are much more clear. Stay tuned for more.
@onlyashadow1121 Actually this battle is over 3 yrs old now, what you see is the 1st of our old collection of battles. But on this day, I was way to one handed. I was trying to capitalize on the speed and maneuverability of the 1 handed attack. As you can see, I paid for it in pain. I would like to say I have evolved past the over extension. But I believe that it useful in its moment, when used properly. It must be executed with plans for recovery. You should check out our newer vids.
@Deadlyartsfights a skilled sword man will slice the first arrow down the middle, he will deflect the second one, and the third...well there is no third, but this will only happen if its mitsurugi fighting the bow and arrow guy
@Erik1495 Its true the sword is an outdated weapon. But the lessons of the blade are still held strong in humanity. There is a reason the sword is still sacred . The code of bushido, respect, honor and discipline of oneself and others can only be truley learned within the sword. Also you never have to reload a blade.....
this is all about coreocrafics? thats not the way to battle if you really want to hit your opponent. and what is the meaning of swingin your sword around like you got nothing better to do? (like trying to hit your target?) no waiting for the opponent to make a mistake, then countering? nope. its just showing off.
looks cool though.. but thats about it.
anyway.. just my opinion :) keep it up guys. looks cool and keeps you fit i guess :)
"Coreocrafics"?? Speell Cheak mi frend. None of what you see is choreographed. First off, what experience do you have in sword fighting? No offense, but I am going to guess not much, if any. Feint and draw. Look it up. As far as trying to hit the target, I guess I could just stand there and let him hit me but what would be the point. You should watch the 10th video in the series...or any of the other videos that we get hit in the face due to a miscalculation in the angel...
er angle of the strike. I can assure you that none of this is for the sake of showing off. I would appreciate it if you posted some of your own sword fighting as a comparison. You are right about one thing though it does keep us fit.
i apologize my spelling (if its so important?) at the end of my comment i said it was just my opinion. and i am allowed to say it, right?
does it really matter how much experience i have in sword fighting? only 8½ years of sabre. and i know these two sword fighting styles cant be compared to eachother becouse they are so different. what i was saying is that i prefer more to eliminating my opponent as fast as i can. like waiting for a moment to defend then counter.
It was a joke, my friend; and you are allowed to voice your opinion.
It matters very much; how much experience you have. There is a bit of paradox in what you posted; eliminate as fast as you can but you wait while you defend for a counter? At any rate, post some vids; and I didn't take it as rude, but I do require a valid opinion.
valid opinion? please explain, and maybe ill try to give you one. and about the waiting and counterin, i meant that as soon as there is a spot i go for it. hard to explain but ill make a vid to show.
I don't see an opinion as valid unless the person can show examples of there skill. As in posting videos. As far as going for an opening, if you don't know how to feint then there is know way to find an opening if your opponent has obtained a certain level of skill. I do believe that all styles can and should be compare and pitted against each other.
I know that posting videos on YouTube is not the most accurate way to depict skill but I don't see myself in your part of the world any time soon, unfortunately. As pipe dreams go, if I had the money I would travel the world seeking out those that follow the way of the sword. I would love nothing more that to pit my skill against the skill of others.
@zZRockAngelZz This fight happened about 4 years ago now so.....keep that in mind. In this fight, I was too one handed trying to capitalize on the speed of the attack, but which caused me pain as you can see. This is my no means choreographed. This is us fighting, reading the moment........
Nagual and I have been sword fighting for about 15 years now. I have been in martial arts since age 5, so about 25 years. Much of the style is steeped in northern Shaolin sword but I incorporate as much of my weapons training as I can. Besides NSS, Jeet Kun Do is a major influence, if not the biggest. Nagual has traditional Ken do, as well as some martial arts, training.
