  • Great tip that does work great. However, I must say that contrary to the position taken about using the "stock" plugins, I was unable to do that when I did this. For some reason, the stock gate plug that comes with Cubase 6 makes a really scratchy sound during transition from on to off. I ended up using the Waves C1 plug and it works just like described.

Side note, I really enjoy all of your tips. Many other people that try and offer help are so general that it's of no real help.

    Thanks!

  • Thats crazy, thanks for all the tips Graham.Dont let the haters stop you.

  • nice tutorial man, but you probably wanna find out which frequeny your kick drum is at, so the low sine wave matches with your kick

  • this is my favorite tip ever

  • Good stuff graham as always, thanks for the tip.

  • damn laptop speakers, that 60hz wasnt even audible!

  • Very impressive

  • Daaang this is sweet....I just had an eargasm :)

  • this instantly helped my mix. Thankyou so much.

  • GENIUS!

  • hey, im doing this with white noise on a snare drum and doing it all the same but for some reason i get a whitenoise bleed in the background even when the snare is not hitting it... i do have a gate on the original snare track as well... any thoughts?

  • @snapascrew nvm, had my range setting on the expander/gate screwed up!

  • Brilliant!

  • Awesome tip. I had heard of this years ago but completely forgot about it.

  • outstanding.

  • Wouldn't it be easier to jus raise the low? Because in a live situation you cannot do this with ease?

  • @eaMusIk2008 This is more of a studio mix technique, if your kick drum doesn't have enough low end. Just boosting won't help if there is not enough low end physically in the recording. But live, you do what you have to do.

  • Graham- you're a legend- you've videos are really helpful ;) Quick question- what do you use to record all the drums into separate audio tracks? Cheers :)

  • @Patchworkofficial I just use an audio interface with multiple mic pres. Recording each mic through its own preamp onto its own track.

  • Depending on the way you do this technique, you might risk damaging your speakers.

  • that's an effing awesome kick drum sound

  • AWESOME

  • You're a great teacher, Graham. This is a cool technique! I'm gonna go play with it now on some tunes I'm mixing for my band.

Thanks so much for posting these videos.

  • Thanks once more! Great trick!

  • Hey, Graham! I think it will create a better result if you choose the frequency of the signal generator based on the Key of the Song. For example: 55hz, if the song is in Key of A, 65.5hz in Key of C and so on... Because even kick drum has some kind of pitch and if that is out of tune, it will create a dissonance. If the pitch of kick drum is in the key it will really smooth out your mix.

  • Slick technique!

Outstanding series of tuts, Graham! You and Joe Gilder are my new best friends!

  • this "5 minutes to a better mix" is great! thank you very much!!!

  • Thanks for the reply, God Bless

  • May God bless you Graham! I see you have Presonus Studio One on your Mac! This is the DAW that I use and love it. What are your thoughts on it and are you going to do any future videos with it? Is Pro Tools more functional? Thank you for the videos.

  • @2cthetruth Yes, I've used Studio One a little bit here and there. We record into it live at church every week. If I get some time to dive in deeper I might do some tutorials on it! Just always been a Pro Tools user.

  • @2cthetruth May God bless Graham and not people who are starving, dying of a disease, war-stricken, etc.? What a silly, selfish concept: asking your deity to give a specific person more attention than another. I'm not trying to be rude, but think about what 'blessing' someone over someone else really implies. It makes me cringe, honestly. GOD BLESS THE USA!

Graham, great video, though. I really appreciate you sharing your EQ tips, and I'm not trying to troll. Keep up the good work. ;)

  • @rootvalue Whoa there! I think your reading into my comment a little toooo deep my friend! God has the ability to bless whom He may! May God definetly Bless Graham for helping others, be it through the tutorials he makes or whatever else he does. God can and does bless individuals (read the Bible). How 'bout this, God Bless you, you tuber whom goes by the name rootvalve, and not just the USA also, but the whole world!

  • @2cthetruth That's more like it! ;)

  • much thanks for this Graham!

  • Bless man..keep up the great work..Peace

  • Graham, Keep letting God Use you. This and the rest of the videos help me a lot.
