  • What a performance!

  • Was this 1995?

  • @sspirits8 1994

  • It was a good year for music....

  • @vancitycanary sans the death of Kurt Cobain

  • almost as good as bittersweet symphony

  • love the music. Too bad they were screwed by such an inferior band....Verve- live on..

  • This is 1995 not 1994 - I was there in the front row!

  • the difference betweend verve and oasis: verve were superstars only.. oasis = just the gallaghers.. especially in their early days.. no one but noel was aloud to make a song and he told everyone what to do.. guys like guigsy or bonehead are so replacable..

    verve forever

  • Heads up for all the skinny white British alt-rockers.

    Damon Albarn

    Mark Gardener

    Jarvis Cocker

    Richard Ashcroft

    Andy Bell

    Liam and Noel

    The guy from Spiritualized

    and the list goes on............

  • @classylarry come on man u cannot put richard ashcroft and joe cocker in one list :D:D richard isnt that old ;)

  • @classylarry Except andy bell is an annoying cunt

  • Oasis, Stone Roses, The Verve and Blur = the best bands of last 40 years

  • with the verve, you either get it or you don't. Put me in the former camp. They have done some brilliant stuff!

  • is there a dvd for this gig?

  • 0:06 las cabezas moviendose xddd

  • Wow...I remember watching this live on Ch4 when I was 14.

That Verve performance in the sunshine made me fall in love with Glastonbury!

  • This is fuckin great!

  • oasis the verve the stone roses are untouchable fuckin superb

  • @bigSlide94

Yes fucking magestical all three Im glad I grew up listening to all this incredible music.

  • its cool yeh :)

storm in heaven is my favourite just because its so trippy and different to everything else ive ever listened to. i like quite a few songs of urban hymns; especially weeping willow

  • a storm in heaven is such a good album

  • @Blink182DudeRanch It's not just good.. It's brilliant! =D

  • @irikrus brilliant and so underrated. in fact most people i know have never heard of the verve :(

  • @Blink182DudeRanch So you feel that you're special bacause of the such a good taste of music, don't you? =) Is SITH better than Urban Hymns? what do you prefer?

  • looks like I got 6 people to kill

  • feel the noise brothers!!!

  • nick mccabe was/still is massively underrated

  • just brilliant.

  • I miss the Storm in Heaven...

  • The Verve did some really spectacular sounding music back in the day likes. I'm a bit young to have fully appreciated them at the time, but at least they've inspired me to get some massive reverb on the go :)

  • The guitar in this track is wicked. the lyrics are fucking ace. Shame they are split now.

  • Legendary.

  • Rich you are a cock of the highest order. What a bellend!!

    I managed 1min 32 secs. twat!

  • somebody ripped off john' squire's looks. Heh, they all look like him, maybe its the style of time.

  • Make no mistake.... this is one of the best British bands ever, Ashcroft is a genius,

  • There seem to be a lot of people discussing whether this is Glasto 94 or 95... From everything I've read, and interviews I've seen they always say they didn't get to tour "A Northern Soul", so I'm guessing this is in '94.

  • @skeletonkey6 the reason im asking if its 95 is that i saw them at glasto95 and according to the glasto website they didnt play 94.its such a long time ago though!when i saw them in 95 the guitarists amp blew up and it was also very sunny, but i cant mind much more, loads of cider!!cheers

  • @skeletonkey6

They did tour 'A Northern Soul' and this is Glastonbury 1995.

  • verve = better

  • is this not 95??

  • he looked so young! love him and love the song great band! =)

  • grandiose, without words, only that they are a unique group. !viva The Verve¡

  • i have a Verve book from the 90's. one of the pictures is of Ashcroft in this green shirt. I tore out an Ashcroft photo from the book and got it signed by Ashcroft last week. He also signed my Gibson Jumbo acoustic. he's nice.

  • @theinck

    Lucky Man!

  • Just Amazing!!!

  • Some of the most amazing songs I've ever heard, in years of listening to various genres, are found on the Verve's first album. Beautiful!

  • great tune

  • Love Oasis, love verve.

They are definitely different but it's mainly Ashcroft's and Liam's swagger, voice, singing posture, accent, and style that make them seem similar

Plus both bands are fucking amazing live

  • oasis and the verve at glasto the same year! fuck they were really spolied in 94

  • @kiely456 this was in 1995, not 1994.

  • the verve, oasis and the doors all shit hot singers and bands

  • Oh man i wish i was half talented as McCabe. I have a band of my own and The Verve are an ispiration, I love so much rock music from Britain. People who live in the U.K. are so lucky...

  • mcCabe is a genius

  • Sounds like crap to me.

  • na nudge that year 94 in blighty they only played the reading festival

  • this was glastonbury 95 not 94

  • @ozrics62 pretty sure it was 94

  • simply crazy... very genius... THE VERVE!

  • i really wish there were more bands writing music like this now

  • aaah when they were good...

  • Top Class! The Verve are the best. But, why don't they tour??? Thanks Verve...for fucking your fans : ( Still, the best band : )

  • Hate to break it to you, but they split up last year...

  • because they've split up....again.

  • I have no comparison. I just know who ever and what ever happens, the verve are top class. The best there is. There are more good music but not like this....simply not like this!

  • Oasis

  • why compare the verve to stone roses and oasis? i think it would be good if people just enjoyed the music, everyone has their own opinions of who the best bands are but why start talking about stone roses, oasis and the beatles in a video showing the verve on top form, just enjoy the music!!!!

  • yeah well said, you put us to shame..yeah they were on top form, it was a great gig..

  • @BryterLater1990 respect

  • @BryterLater1990

I mean "Urban Hymns" "Definitely Maybe" and "Stone Roses" (was that the name of the album?) are the most most important albums ever released IMO, since the 60s anyway.

Think of some of the songs on these albums. "I Wanna Be Adored", "She Bangs the Drums", "made Of Stone" , "Bitter Sweet Symphony", "The Drugs Don't Work", "Velvet Morning", "Wonderwall", Dont Look Back In Anger, "Slide Away", "Cast No Shadow" , "Columbia"... to name just a few!

    One in a million songs.

  • @casperld Dont Look Back In Anger and Cast No Shadow were on Whats The Story Morning Glory, Oasis had more important Albums that the Stone Roses and The Verve to be fair but they all shaped music in the 90's...

  • @blakeguitar94 The arrogance of Liam Gallagher put me off Oasis; he believed he was John Lennon's peer, when really they were a fantastic Beatles cover band. The Verve's early stuff, especially, stands alone.

  • @bigbeatshuffletruffl

they are not a "beatles cover band" they covered i am the walrus and helter skelter on LPs , and neither of them were studio albums , one was a bside and the other was a live album , dont critcise oasis if you dont know anything about them ..

  • @Franklovesthegers Unlike most people here I don't claim to be an expert on Oasis, but their generic sound is so obviously (and openly) taken from the Beatles, down to Liam's vocals. They have created some great music, but imitation is not as difficult as originality.

  • @bigbeatshuffletruffl true, they do have a basic sound, but the quality of the melodies and song structures make up for it

  • @bigbeatshuffletruffl musically , they were similiar , but liam despite trying to be like ianbrown and john lennon , developed his own style , noel wrote alot more famous songs than richard ashcroft ( no disrespect to him ) and the beatles were also more pop music than rock in those days , obviously now they wouldbe classed as rock but oasis were rock in the 90s and they still are..

  • @Franklovesthegers that doesn't make any sense.

  • @BertilUlfsson How the fuck cant you understand that statement?

  • having read all these comments, im an early Verve fan, ASIH, ANS, are class, but im afraid i have to agree with modernmod89, having seen the Roses at Blackpool, no other band had as much influence on groups today, thats why Brownie is still a legend, Ashcroft does a better gig..lol, also to slag of Noel G, nothing beats that guy doing acoustic, but what do i know, im a women,

  • Comment removed

  • Oasis are better than the Verve????

You've got to be kidding me! Oasis are bad musicians who have even worse lyrics.

Listen to Richards lyrics and you surely will see the gulf between him and Noel Gallagher.

  • this is soooo fucking amazing! song/peformance

  • Pretty good live.

  • This was the year before I was born, but I love them sooooooooo much

  • why are u fuckers arguing about opinions, Christ !

one day youl all grow up and notice no1 gives a shit weather YOU think a band is greater then the next.

    enjoy the music or stfu

  • make that *and* stfu

  • i was at this gig :) amazing live

  • thought you might have....lol

  • luckyy maannnn

  • ashcroft still the fkn man...

  • they are my best band they dont sound like anybody else they are unique its a pitty that ashcroft an the lead guitarist are fucking moanbag pussys

  • yeah well said...

  • hello

  • If you like Verve, esp early Storm in Heaven era, check out a new band called Exit Calm who share a similar passion for neo-psychedelic sounds spaces. Enjoy.

  • exit calm = cool sound. thanks!

  • THE GREATEST BAND EVER! Fuck the Stone Roses at least the Verve made more that one great album.

  • why can't we like them both?

  • Oasis>The Verve

  • your insane

    The Verve > Oasis> stone roses >the beatles>blur>

  • Oasis>The Verve>Stone Roses>The Beatles>blur↓

  • Verve and The Beatles are better than Oasis, imo

  • maybe the beatles are better than oasis but the verve aren´t ,although the verve are very good

  • I only really like Definitely Maybe and What's The Story Morning Glory, they've had a few decent singles after those but I don't think Oasis have matched those two albums.

  • HAHAHAHAHAHAHA

  • name a verve tune as decent as i am the ressurection or fools gold or i wanna be adored or waterfall. you cant, and if you do, your talking shite. No cunt ever lists verve up their with the roses for a good fucking reason. Theyre a good band as all, but they aint roses good.

  • Go and listen to A Storm In Heaven and A Northern Soul.

'No cunt' So music is based on the popular opinion now? I take it West Life are one of the best bands of all time?

You're talking shite lad. The Roses were decent but they appeal to all the meathead gimps and it appears from your methods of arguing with me that you fall into this category.

Listen to more music theres ALOT better stuff out there than The Roses.

Good band, not great and certainly not as good as The Verve.

  • dont start playin the class card. That tactic is reserved solely for fans of radiohead, bloc party and other such enlightened music intended only for the priviliged few. Well, Westlife arent critically acclaimed and arent cited as influential. The Verve wont be remembered as a great band, end of, and The Roses will, and you cant do shit to change that. Ive got all the verve albums and ive got everything the roses ever did, and i can tell yer, roses are better.

  • I'm not playing any class cards. You will find meatheads in all social classes.

By putting Bloc Party in the same grouping as Radiohead you're showing your level of musical intelligence mate.

The Verve will be held in higher esteem than the roses, they have 2 8+/10 albums. The Roses have a 7 and a 5.

  • Thats your opinion mate. I certainly dont agree.

As for using the 'class card' excuse, surely you can do better than that. Have you got a mind of your own or are you still reciting what you've heard other people say?

  • @sieczkowski20 Class? who mentioned class?

Meathead is a state of mind.

  • @JuanKallot ok recommend me some better stuff than the roses lad since there is a lot out there.you dont even consider the roses a "great" band?who is talking shite?jesus fookin christ

  • @placebo150 Which time period would you like me to reference bands from?

  • Verve have more talent in their little toes than the Stone Roses.

  • fuck off, the roses made one album of sheer brilliance that has never been repeated. the verve have a handful of good albums.

  • Talking out your fucking arse lad.

The Roses are on of the most overrated bands of all time.

  • nah ur a cunt. grow some fucking ears mate. Verve, yeah alright. Roses, genius. Nearly every british indie band since has been influenced by them. you cant say the same for the verve. theyre a good band, but theyre most famous for ripping of the rolling stones.

  • The Verve released two great records prior to the song from the album you're talking about. Both much better than The Stone Roses' debut.

The Stone Roses influenced alot of middle of the road, bland 'indie' shit. It wasnt even the best album of 1989!

Granted, they are a 'gateway' band that push some of us onto better music. Sadly, some of us get stuck in their ways and plod along listening to the same music for years and years.

You appear to fall into this category.

    Open your ears.

  • @saneman32 lmao your a joker, stone roses are a cut above oasis and verve, noel knows this liam knows this ashcroft and mccabe knwo it, theyve said it in several interviews if yo udig deep enough, and as the comment below why must you compare, its liek going on a stones video and sayin o hthe beatles piss all over them, i believe you are jus tout to cause an arguement..

  • @jordanholdaway

First of all please check your spelling before posting comments. I will concede though that without the Stone Roses the Verve probably wouldn't have existed, but without Kingsley Amis then there would have been no

Martin Amis. Read Lucky Jim and then Money and tell me which is the better book.

  • @saneman32 no mate.. ur wrong.. different times.. comparisin is uncalled for.. both are great bands.. and a big influence to all of us.. greetings mate

  • Well ahead of their time, lots of other great band at this time in the uk, but the Verve were something else, Ashcroft needs McCabe though !

  • quality.

  • I remember wattching this on TV that year. I was utterly converted. They were an awesome band then.

  • Which channel you watched this video?

  • It was on either BBC2 or Channel 4 (in the UK)...I can't remember which of them first started broadcasting it.

  • What a group they were in those earlier days and what a front man. Fucking awesome!

  • With a voice like that at 22... he puts all the young aspiring 'artists' of today to shame.

Richard Ashcroft... a man of no boundaries. He just keeps getting better

  • how bloody right is that comment...my god like genius since the early days ..no one comes close

  • Yeah exactly =]

  • Actually 24

  • Eh, whatever his age in this video, the point is still valid.

  • You're wrong.

    The Verve=the Verve

    Oasis=Oasis

  • @Waitforme88 tru that

  • maudsley75. ha. nice one!!!

  • slide away burn away

that that really means? using drugs? getting high?

  • Now I want a green shirt. The guy from MGMT has very simular style it looks like.

  • am wanting the green shirt too .though u should know x :D ..quite important

  • Ya its kinda sad that people looked cooler in 1994 than we do in 2009, but Richard always looks bitchn. People dress like dyslexic clowns today.

  • Richard is so fantastic..luv The Verve.

  • I saw this on TV and was like, "WHAT THE HELL IS THIS???" Nick McCabe is a god on guitar..

  • He is that, and so totally lazy about it, doesn't need to do the windmill...

  • Comment removed

  • whoever?

  • fuck me i was at this. glasto 95 trippin mi tits off

  • What a performance... They have a talent to get really tripy grooves

  • This is Glastobury 1995 not 1994 iv got the bootleg of this gig and just before the start of 'the rolling people' nick mccabes amp fucked up so for like a minute and a half its just pete and si playing 'the rolling people' until nick's amp gets fixed and they start the song from scratch. I heard this slide away live version before I heard the album version and its what got me into the band, superb performance

  • Didn't rolling people come out in '97?

  • I think so. It was on Urban Hymns and that album came out in 1997.

  • Do you possibly know where i could find the bootleg, Ive got their 1993 performance, but i would much rather prefer this.

  • Yeh I know a link.

  • Gutted to have missed the verve at this time, only 2. love them and can't get enough of a Northern Soul and a storm in heaven.

  • Richard Ashcroft`s very nareegudo

  • where is the next song??

  • Best frontman ever. Fact.

  • he does try dunt he ricardo the depressin cunt lol

  • as much as i love Oasis , The Verve were always much more of an high class act - both bands are great , but The Verve got that something extra that make them complete classic .

  • Originality.

Huge oasis fan too. but they really are influenced by the beatles. the verve had their own sound

  • The Verve is more music for the Soul.

Oasis is just an all out Rock N Roll band.

Both bands have different but equally good qualities.

Ironically my two favourtie bands of all time.

  • the verve and oasis share amazing melodies and equally great rock songs and ballads. that's why they're my two favourite bands

  • I can't tell if your either taking the Piss or, agreeing with me.

  • im saying that they're both amazing but while they are different they're not as different as ya think

  • They are both equaly awesome but i think the beatles are better yeah and about the verve is music for the soul and oasis is more right in your face guitar riffs and vocals

  • También son mis dos bandas favoritas...

    saludos!

  • @foook111 where's the irony?

  • @MrRobWhite Because people are chatting about oasis on here, and they happen to be both be a couple of my favourite bands

  • That's actually Glastonbury 95, I know 'cause I was there and it's one of my favourite gigs ever. Nick McCabe's amp blew for a couple of songs and they kept going with just the rhythm section and Richard Ashcroft and the crowd just got into it.

It was perfect weather for the middle of a heat wave.

  • Oasis and the verve at glast 94 shame i was only 4

  • waldo u cock

  • shame i was only 4 aswell lol

  • 3 lol

  • This is what The Verve do best..Great psychadelic music..Slide Away is probably one of their best tunes

  • I remember being here and watching this back in the day when Glastonbury whether was boiling hot. Not the bands best performance. Nick's amp blowing up summed up the show. Band are much better live now.
