Giving Trent a hug is on my list of things to do before I die. I mean, if he went through so much personal turmoil and emotional hell to create the music that has helped me and inspired me the most, the least I can do is give him a hug. :)
It's when you feel alone, your life's rock bottom...you're spending all of this time with yourself trying to figure out why you feel the way you feel, why the world is the way that it is, who am I? Who are they to me?...come listen to some NIN & you feel less alone.
the oscar for the social network ost was clearly well deserved... but things falling apart would have been a even better soundtrack. trent's music is very cinematic!
i think nine inch nails, even in trent reznor himself, the music evolved from personal pain and torment with some periods of peace and harmony, i feel deep down we all have our demons our own personal skeletal closets, depression isnt neccisarily the issue, just the lack of optimism to overcome the darkness that we seem to have wrought into our own personal minds, but to suppress the feelings of depression and find light on the other end of the tunnel, that is nine inch nails.
@dagonX23 I completely agree with that last sentence..about fighting your personal hell and torment and finding light at the end of that long, black, bleak, deep tunnel because that was exactly how I felt about what NIN is to me. The reason why I love NIN so much is because it was theraputic for me.
@EverDownward all things in moderation though, ive come to find too much of the same thing can eventually become a poison to your system, nine inch nails is now and always will be my favorite band, but some days, you need to have some happy thoughts lol which is when i turn to the beatles and such.
@dagonX23 So true, you have to have a grasp on how music can control you. If you always think you're depressed, you will be. Listening to NIN can harbor those emotions, and almost want to feel depressed because the music is so fucking awesome that you want to be there too. But it's just an expression of self, and something I think we can all relate too. Like you said though, always gotta through in something to break your mindset. As long as you have it all in perspective, it's all good.

"The clouds will part
And the sky cracks open
And God Himself
Will reach His fucking arm through
Just to push you down
Just to hold you down"
Yeah, that sounds about right.

Given that you just said that, it is evident that you don't understand the purpose The Fragil, or even Nine Inch Nails in general, serves.
Depression hits everyone, regardless of how optimistic they are.
