Estonia, Czech Republic, Sweden, Denmark, Norway, France, Netherlands, Slovenia, Latvia, United Kingdom, Iceland, Bulgaria, Finland, Belgium, Hungary, Luxembourg, Germany, Switzerland & Lithuania are all the countries that have less than 50% of the population believing in a god or deity, so by majority are atheist. All of them are European. All of them score as either "highly" or "very highly" developed on the Human Development Index. What's there to be afraid of?

I hate how people think it is their religious duty to convert everyone they meet. Some people say that atheists are too "militant" because they state to others that there are no gods, however they have to be that way in response to the millions of fanatic fundamentalist people who attack their views every chance they get, how's that for "militant". Idiotic double standards... Just like how christianity went from a small belief to a dominant one, I believe atheism will do the same in the future.

I'm never going to forget talking about Atheists being the least trusted minority in the US in my speech class. We weren't allowed to argue back, just hear what the audience had to say afterwords. Someone said "Well that's not really discrimination, because we don't not trust them because they're atheists, just because they don't have the same morals as us." I wanted to scream that that statement itself was discriminatory and assumed that religion is a prerequisite to morality.

The amount of people who say they are atheists are small. The amount of people who say they are not religious and "don't include me" is HUGE and is growing. And a lot of those people would fit into the "atheist" category but are scared of being ostracized.

The issue comes spider that 10-15% are "non-religious" and a certain number of that claim to be atheist, non religious or deist, and agnostic. Most agnostics are just atheists that will not admit it because agnosticism is not a third choice you still must be theist or atheist. So 1-3% would be correct people claiming atheism, but the number is higher, much higher, just people not accepting what they are.

@maskedmalfrey I hear that! I would have fought for her freedoms and I still do on a daily base as a humanist but she has no respect of views outside her box.

@brandys78 Hi, you hit the nail on the head there. People of her stripe want all the freedoms, choices and protections that a state has to offer but they're hypocrites for expressly denying other those same rights. If you oppose their view you're obviously 'wrong'. A genuinely honest and caring person couldn't stand for any sort of isolation or discrimination of a minority even if they fundamentally disagree with their point of view. They demand respect, yet show virtually none themselves.
